      It's Arizona! Nice dry heat, for now. Soon our monsoon kicks in and it'll put that 90/90 to shame. 115°f (46c) temperature with a 65° (19c) dew point and 50%+ humidity.
      Ian lives in southern Arizona so it's a bit cooler than around me. We can top out 120f or 49c, so he'd be a few degrees lower than here.

    I think it is interesting that, for all the 'progress' of small arms cartridges, we are basically going to field a short barrel suped up version of the 7x57 Mauser. We changed it to .30, we scaled it down, we copied its ballistics with the 7mm-08 which we then ignored, we jumped to a small lightweight high velocity cartridge, chopped the balls off of it with short stubby barrels and carbine gas systems, and then came full circle to a .27 caliber bullet of medium weight moving at medium speeds, a not to far cry from the slightly longer 7x57 with easily copied ballistics if you throw a medium weight .28 caliber spitzer on top, although granted from a short barrel, and it only took 130 some odd years to circle back.
    Even if we start from .308 Win, did it really take 70 years to accept that necking the case down to .26-.28 caliber was a good idea? Talk about a slow moving machine.

  • @MrChrisStarr
    @MrChrisStarr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +85

    The idea of having one round for training, and another for combat still seems a little 'odd' for you infantry main small arm. I would hope some training would be done with the full fat round. Opportunities for a great whoopsies from QMs!

    • @lchris2703
      @lchris2703 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Seems like this "training" round is pretty pointless. When I was still in the Army, the axiom was that you trained like you would fight in war. Unless the training round matches the ballistics and recoil, your riflemen won't be properly trained to handle the actual combat round. Even with training rounds on the Bradley. they may have not had the same punch, they ballistically would mirror actual combat rounds.

    • @angelsfallfirst7348
      @angelsfallfirst7348 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@lchris2703 they did this with the norma mmg as well it is a cost thing the bullet is weighted to give similar performance to the actual round but not cost as much. Idk if it is a sound idea but I can see the reasoning behind it.

    • @thomasstevenhebert
      @thomasstevenhebert 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@lchris2703 it’s a range issue. Outside of the major training installations the impact zone won’t be large enough. There are plenty of ranges that you can’t shoot 855a1 on, because the impact range isn’t large enough but 855 is perfectly fine.

    Pretty decent run sir, sad to see the function issues with the Pistol.
    Gotta remember as you said, the ammo being used is the "training" ammo and not the full/ high-power cartridges for active duty/ combat use, so the recoil is going to be softer. I'd like to see how sustainable it can be with the combat ammo in conjunction to the weight and lessened carrying capacity. Still not sold on this system or the caliber.

    My experience shooting a Browning Hi Power, which for me is likely the pistol I have experienced the greatest inherent accuracy with when I REALLY slowed down and focused on my irons and slowly pulled the trigger (all makes for a recipe of good accuracy), makes me feel rather a bit confident that I could tackle that pistol-shooting with some degree of confidence. Can manage a roughly 1.5" (3.75cm?) grouping at 10m (11yd). Focus on the front sight, pull the trigger slowly, and the bullet would go almost exactly where I wanted it to. Oh and just let the recoil happen; allow the pistol to go off on its own time as you slowly pull the trigger. You'll end up with the muzzle pointed at a slightly upward angle after the shot before you then manually bring the sights back down, but this is the recipe I have found to produce the greatest accuracy. Maybe take one shot every two seconds, and I found that I just about could not miss.

    It would seem that having a suppressor will only be useful for the first shots of an engagement when you still have the element of surprise, then degenerating into something much louder and chaotic. In the latter case I would think that removing the suppressor and upping the noise level will do more to conceal your movements than you would otherwise gain through sound reduction. Coupled of course with helmet headsets or other communications gear that eliminates some of the need for yelling.

    • @alastair852

    We need the expected velocity of the projectile for the real ammo,, Then determine if 30 ought 6 would get that,, or 300 wshort mag

    Nice, rifle!!! I think I could hit target after target with ease with something that accurate. You should do a video on the Bersa TPR9. It's msrp is around $450 . It has Ambi slide releases, and decocker fire safety switches. The TPR9 is a da/sa hammer fired gun with 17+1 round capacity.

    Once again I have to ask what's it like with military ammo, which would mean more gas, would it still stop gas in the face? Also what's the recoil like shooting military ammo? I know these are difficult question to ask because Sig is afraid of the politics but gun control advocates are still going to call it a weapon of war in civilian hands regardless of Sig not making military ammo available for it to civilians.

    • @1stCallipostle
      @1stCallipostle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gun control advocates will hate it no matter what, yeah
      I mean an SMLE is still not too uncommon to see on the modern battlefield, so it's absolutely a "weapon of war"
      Sig, and anybody else, shouldn't care what those people have to say
      And if they do manage to pass more control
      Well, we have these guns for a reason right?

  • @keanudarkly9497

    Absurd waste of taxpayer dollars. You cant complain about the budget deficit and support this weapon as a new platform. Period.

  • @Hysteria98

    TFB TV had a good overview video on shooting this gun as they weren't given this one that everybody else received. They actually shot the full-power SIG FURY round the military will get so we get an actual insight into what the combatants will be using. Suffice to say, it doesn't look good. Way too powerful. Even bulky-build, trained shooters struggled to keep it on target with the recoil.

      The game would have the most bizarre line-up of weapons - the shotgun would be a single-shot model with an Alofs adapter and the SMG would be a French folding model.
