Actually true. I've been practicing muay thai and we punch as much as any boxer. The fact the we aren't exclusively punching, doesn't mean that we don't punch
People who are saying “oo boxers win bc they will come close and punch them…”, Muay thai is well known for clinching (sweeping, knees, elbows, body control). Whereas boxers whenever they get too close just throw baby punches to the opponent’s body and cuddle like sweet little babies.
If boxers only cuddle and throw baby punches why are there more deaths in boxing history than in muay thai, kickboxing and mma together ? Stop hating on boxing just cause you can‘t deal with the sweet science. Talkin trash about boxing but all the fighters wanna get the boxing pay day. And in self defense/streetfight scenarios your kicks, knee clinches and sweeps etc. don‘t work. Muay thai only beats boxing from a distance but once the boxer is inside range he gon fuck you up. Footwork and head movement, quick with 1-2 jab cross combos bare knuckle by a boxer who hitts way harder its over quick.
@@MM-Red @MMG didnt know ramon was a boxer? And ur forgetting the thai clinch isnt just hugging like in boxing, they throw knees which is much more powerful then body punches and elbows. Generally a muay thai fighter will win easily against a boxer.
For what I have seen the muay thai fighters always use leg kicks to put pressure and distance. If they get close they will throw elbows and knees like crazy and once again leg kicks
Muay Thai has so much more. It crushes over boxing. It’s the best striking martial art in my personal opinion, bjj for grappling, but it’s good to do wrestling in school just for the sucky yet grindy environment
@@daebak7370boxing + wrestling is far better, you wrestling will let you control where the fight goes and multiply your ability to land punches due to fear of being taken down, and boxing will teach you head movement, foot work, Most BJJ people have 0 wrestling and crumble when their silly sport bjj rules dont apply. Most muay thai people have absolutely awful boxing, 0 footwork, 0 head movement and only go forward and backwards in a slow stance You are also much more planted and balanced when you are boxing, kicking is risky to get taken down or slammed
@@user-qn6fw8fg4b in bjj there are plenty of takedowns. It’s not focused on too much but you do get quite a variety and you can either drill takedowns outside of practice or do wrestling or judo. I’d say wrestling over judo but they are both pretty good
Just a kick anywhere on the boxers body and he's done. Just a knee to the ribs or fave and the boxers done. Just an elbow to the jaw and the boxers done.😂😂😂😂
This is true but I've got a couple of points. I've only been practicing muay thai and my punches are pretty damn good. I learnt everything with muay thai and I had no martial background (unless you count on year of judo when I was literally 4😂). Also, if you intent to move from boxing to other forms of martial arts you need to remember that some techniques (especially of defenses and ducking) that you engrave in your memory might be problematic in other martial arts
Man I got the fattest bump on my shin from checking the same leg kick over and over I can't imagine how much worse it would've been if I had no padding on
Every other combat sport teaches boxing and boxing defense as a by-product. Boxing is useless against most other sports because you're not trained to deal with legs.
That’s cause boxing is only used against boxing If it’s mma that’s it’s never just boxing it’s always something else (taekwondo, bbj, kickboxing, fucking aikido rarely) boxing is a sport people seem to forget that
For mma? Mauy Thai is more versatile. Mauy Thai has more options in the clinch. Plus they have take downs as well. Head movement is great, but there are more things to consider in mma. Edwards KO'd Usman with a hlk cause he over committed with his head movement. Movement is different in mma because u have to consider kicks and td. Boxing footwork might not translate for mma. They would have to learn how to check kicks. With that said, I respect and enjoy both sports.
For mma Muay Thai is impractical unless you know how to stay on your feet other then that it’s not useful. Invites to many takedowns. That’s something mt and boxing both have in common
Meh boxing is definitely more versatile gives your legs room to learn whatever the hell they want, Maui Thai uses both arms and legs while boxing is just arms with footwork (you can combine it with taekwondo or kickboxing)
Muay Thai’s good and all but reason why you don’t see Thai guys in MMA much is because it opens you up for a lot of take downs. Boxing’s footwork is very similar to wrestling thus making it more efficient for MMA since majority of fighters dominate through wrestling > striking.
Boxing footwork only works against another boxer, boxing head movement is nullified when you slip into a kick or duck into a knee, sure you're gonna have punching power and better punching technique, but Muay Thai includes punches also and most Muay Thai fighters will know how to properly avoid power punches to land their own strikes. Muay Thai over boxing all day. Sincerely, A person who competed in 25 amateur boxing matches over the course of 7 years but got completely outclassed in their first Muay Thai class 👌
I agree with most of it but if you’re going against a Maui Thai fighter why are you just using boxing? It’s not a boxing match you can use legs or grappling, put em in an armbar see how that elbow really works after you snap it
@@TheToeOfEarl Maybe you are right, but instead of comparing more powerful martial arts, I believe that there are only strong martial artists in the world.🤔
I took my first Muay Thai class recently and sparred! As a boxer, the best way I found as a beginner to counter a Muay Thai fighter is to float around the ring, in an out. analyze the set ups, and mimic their footwork. Head movement only for key moments(getting inside)I dodged so many low kicks because of this and once I put pressure in their pocket a lot try to grab, which you can use knees(not as good as they can) but you have way better chance than slipping into a knee/elbow
Even without talking about kicks, elbows and knees (which is a lot not to talk about 😂), in Muay Thai you can clinch. True, it's not as effective as Jiu Jitsu (actually I've been only practicing muay thai so I really don't know if it's less effective) but it's still a form of grappling
Honestly everyone hating but as a Muay Thai practitioner, I would agree that boxing is a better base for MMA, just think about how many TKOs are from punches and how many are from kicks? Like almost all punches. Not getting hit is also far more important than have steel chins in an MMA fight
@@ZerkMode ok. But keep in mind that you need to be cautious. You can't apply every thing you learn in boxing to muay thai. For example, if you duck too low, you're gonna meet your opponent's knee

@@justinsosa2648 Exactly lol I told them to look it up TH-cam got plenty of examples for boxing fans of muy Thai fighters beating the shit out of boxers
What people have to understand that it doesn't matter cuz some boxers would beat the shit out of some muay thai fighters and some muay thai fighters would kick the shit out of some boxers. Or if you put a boxer with a muay thai fighters if they fight in muay thai rules muay thai fighter will be suppierior but if they fought in boxing rules a boxer is superior and also if they fight in a street fight everything can happen becouse there are no rules is life and death
It very much depends. Thai Fighters have an amazingly tough skill set. Incredible endurance. And the under-appreciated aspect I’d give them is sublime Balance. Very tricky. Boxers have faster footwork due to not using kicks. Probably a lot faster hands. And as we all know, you can train your body but you can’t train you chin. If the leg kicks land 3-4 times I reckon the Thai fighter wins. If the boxer can close the distance and smoother kicking range but not be close enough to grapple. Then I’d give it to them. Both have their own benefits and purpose. And it’s also my true belief that boxing and Thai is the best striking combination. Add Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling to that mix you will become a monster
It’s not about the style of fighting. It’s about who is using it. This fight can go either way depending on the user(s). I’m a fan of both styles currently working towards mastering boxing, then I’ll head to BJJ, maybe Muay Thai in the future.
Fought a couple of boxers. Just leg kick them and they’re done instantly. They go to this like football ready stance each time they’re kicked and it’s game over
@@aezakmi2113 I was trying to say that muay thai is a better system. A really good muay thai fighter will beat any boxer even Sunny Liston. Punch is more useful than Kicks. But, you can literally bully your opponent to death if they don't know how to counter a kick. If you don't believe me search Changpuek Kiatsongrit vs Rick Roufus. Rick Roufu is kickboxer but low kicks wasn't popular in Kickboxing at the time of the fight. It help Changpuek Kiatsongrit to beat Rick Roufus. Now imagine a muay thai fighter fighting Sunny Liston who even don't know nothing about kickboxing or muay thai.
@@caesars.3261 true. But like I said you can move you feet and keep better balance while punching. Kicks are both practical and impractical. One thing that makes them practical is that they are powerful and can keep people at distance like you said. But they are impractical due to them taking longer to master and again they take away some of your balance
The boxer can still most definitely knock out a Muay Thai fighter. However, it’ll be extremely tough; they’ll have to get through kicks, knees, elbows, punches, sweeps, and the clinch first before they could land a shot. The edge should go to Muay Thai, honestly.
The easiest and most effective arsenal of muay thai is the low kick. You attack a boxers lead leg, and they're done. If your legs aren't conditioned just one leg kick will put you out.
I think any mma martial artist should start with boxing to make hands the priority in his/her style. After that, they should do Muay Thai and some wrestling martial art such as judo. This is ideal in my opinion
Boxing definitely for MMA. The footwork and spacing translates better to MMA. Aside from Charlie Olives, you dont really see Muay Thai stance used too often and for good reason. The hips are right there to be controlled for grappling.
Imagine we take a world class boxer and tell him he can also throw elbows, knees, kicks, sweeps and clinch in his fight. He can use 8 instead of 2 limbs. Will he be more dangerous? The the answer is Muay Thai. It’s not rocket science. Oh and be careful with using boxing head movements against a Muay Thai/MMA fighter. You’re getting a knee straight in the face!
Muay Thai doesn’t have the better foot work in regard to defense, but you’re totally forgetting MT fighters use their feet as weapons. If you have poor footwork trying to throw kicks/teeps/switch kicks, you’re going to fall. Plus, Muay thai uses all aspects of your body. Whether that’s while clinching or even just stand up. Muay Thai is the definitive winner here.
Problem with Muay Thai is that in the West it is not taught 100% complete. Thai fighters are completely different from international fighters. A comptent Thai fighter can shut down a boxers arms with kicks. For proof watch Buakaw vs Mike Zambidis. Thai fighters have great clinch work as well, & some have very good boxing as well.
That’s true, but it’s easy to throw hard punches like that when your legs aren’t being shattered by thunderous leg kicks to the lead quad or getting teeped back 2-3 feet in the middle of a punch combo setup. 🤷🏻♂️

That’s cause boxing is only used against boxing
If it’s mma that’s it’s never just boxing it’s always something else (taekwondo, bbj, kickboxing, fucking aikido rarely) boxing is a sport people seem to forget that
