Did anybody notice it was converted from automatic to manual ?.....I’ve owned a couple of 70’s Z28’s I miss them and they don’t make em like this anymore....beautifully done 👍🏻 and let’s not forget the amount of work put in to this....bravo ! 💪🏻👌🏻🇺🇸
@Canada hahahaha ikkkkkk his looks so good. One day I’ll get one, you can get nice low mile good condition z28s for around 10-20k so it’s really not that bad
My friend had a similar Z28, but in black. I always loved that body style. There were problems with the clear coat and no matter how well you took care of the paint, the clear coat would just peel off. For those that don't know, I believe those wheels are Center Lines and they were very popular in the 80's. You have had to been there to appreciated them today.
Looks to be a Very Nice Father & Son project. I really Love these kinds of restorations. they remind me of my younger years, Car turned out Beautiful, Color is very Kool, HBC as usual, you put together an awesome photo montage of this Sweet Camaro rebuild. Thanks for sharing.
I graduated high school in 82 . My father found a metallic blue 79 Z28 with T-tops in the local auto trader the guy was practically giving away after his wife damaged the oil pan and kept driving it till the engine locked up . My father is friends with a guy that owns the largest junk yard in town . By shear coincidence, a truck carrying brand new GMC Sierra 1500's to the sales lot jack knifed on the expressway destroying the load . The guy at the junkyard bought all the engines for the trucks . My father got one for $800 . We took all the pollution control crap off the engine and put it in my car with some blackjack headers . It was great. I love that car and wish I still had it .
Very nice restoration. I have my own 79 Camaro that I restored. Mine is at the other end of the spectrum mine is a Carmine red metallic 250 inline 6 3 speed standard with AC and a factory vinyl top. Pulled it out of a barn 3 years ago I only drive it on really nice days. Car had no rust. Runs like a Swiss watch. only has 42000 miles. Bought from the original owner who was in his mid 90s.
Wonderful job, I have a 79 TA SE t-tops that I did at home like you (except paint and engine rebuild), people think it’s hard, it’s not, just takes time. One mistake people make is they don’t refurbish interior, they buy new parts, not necessary all the time. I didnt have a son to help so it was a solo job, now my girls want the car that’s it’s done! Anyway yours looks fabulous!
Man nice solid car to start with. I am going to do the same with an almost identical 79 Norwood OH built. bright blue, 350 m-21 4 speed Z. You did an awesome job, love to see guys restoring these 2nd gen Camaros.
Loved it. My Dad and I did similar on a 1974 Z28 in the mid 80s. Buddy had an '81 real close to yours. Great looking interior and rims are period correct sir! Centerforce I believe?
Man this video makes me miss my old '79Z28 I had back in the early 00's when I was in high school...was silver, and I always wanted to paint it a similar blue color to this one. Nice work!
My dad restored a Z28 just like this I think 1983/84. I remember going to the owners house and dad applied the Z28 decals. The next day the owner took it to a car show and won first place in its class with a 6 ft trophy. He saw the car a couple of years ago same owner and it still looks good. RIP Dad
For my taste the nice Z28 hood would have remained and rims look a bit dated but the rest is very nice Ithink these late 2nd gen Camaros are coming back in style ,,,,,,enjoy!
Un vídeo muy original más a pegado a lo que cualquiera de nosotros pudiera hacer, no como las restauraciones de sueños que nos pintan donde gastan un dineral felicitaciones quedo perdón el carro
Very nice.... Love the paint color... GM paint code?.. Would have put a solid motor mount on the driver side... And... Maybe aluminum brake drums on the rear... Thank you for sharing your video.... Definately fun driving cars.... 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
I like that they aren't just wasting money on parts they don't need, they are using what they have available. A lot of 'professional' restoration channels would have just bought a new Z28 fender for $200+, but once you have the side scoop in I doubt anybody outside of the most seasoned camaro experts would be able to tell you it's not stock, and I bet it only cost a couple bucks at the parts yard.
Dog-dish wheels + drum brakes = brake fade/disaster. Wilwood disc's on all four corners and hotchkiss suspension would be my add-ons. Good job on the resto !
When I realized how important it was to get kids more interested in cars I turned my 1978 camaro into bumblebee from transformers. The next car show I took it to I turned alot of heads. Here you have these guys with 40k or more in a car and watch it like a hawk and then me with my car letting kids sit in it and touch it. Won 3rd place and made a few people mad but enough people liked it that I won an award so...
Great job,bit i cant believe you would go to all that trouble and hang a set of $30 gauges in the console, when the Z had factory gauge package. You just had to make them work
I just saw a 1979 Camaro, Z28 in the junkyard near me last week (1/5/2019). The car was dark blue and by the time I got to it, the car was already in the yard for a few weeks and was somewhat stripped but still had good parts such as: the seats (bad condition, looked and smelled like farm animals were living in the car), the engine (seized), the auto transmission (appeared good), the rear end (appeared good) and both fenders (driver's side good). All glass, doors, hood, dash, and trunk lid were gone. I went back the next day to get the goodies and the junk yard had already crushed it.
Blue no it goes Chevy red orange man Chevy motors go Chevy red orange if u like the blue that's cool to I was always told Chevy red orange the motor gets painted but still u doing a dam good just my brother
this is my next project so i thought i would check some out to see what people have dun with these so far i got 3 for free only need to build one the very best one it is a 79 z28 rs t top
Never liked the steering wheel, and replaced mine with an OEM 3 spoke chrome and wood one, it never got too hot or cold to steer barehanded before the AC or heat kicked in. But even with a Hurst 4 speed manual shift, and a 350 4 bbl V8, my black on black '79 Chevy Camaro Z28 was still a 165 HP slogger.
I found a 1980 Camaro body for 1500$ no motor, or trans. The body is solid just has light surface rust. I'm thinking about getting it. I can pull a motor from the scrap yard to get it running.
At that point I'd just buy a new one in better condition. I'm all for restoring cars, I've built a few in my time, but it's important to realize when something is a lost cause
i got 3 z28s for free all rust free cars good clean body one is the z28 rs t top the one i will build but one of the hard tops has new interior then i got a stroke 454 with a heavy duty 400 turbo for free with 38,000 miles on it runs perfect 450 hp at 485 torque stock but going to over haul it and roller the engine all ready has a steel crank and heavy rods . then i just traded a good running 350 4 bolt stock engine with low miles on it for worn out but still runs l.s. 7 427 over head cam 4 valve per cylinder engine i think it just needs a valve job but i will rebuild it some day . right now i am building a 68 chevy pu 2wd and a 70 ford high boy 4x4 dana 60/80 lockers
what u want to do is put stiffer torsion bars and a short stroke gear box on the steering then it will handle like a race car we did to one and we smoked my friends 944 turbo on the corners we could do the corner about 20 mph faster then he could he would slid right out then if we used the power around the corner he had no chance to keep up but his car was stock just gives u an idea on how much u can improve the suspension on one of these
Did anybody notice it was converted from automatic to manual ?.....I’ve owned a couple of 70’s Z28’s I miss them and they don’t make em like this anymore....beautifully done 👍🏻 and let’s not forget the amount of work put in to this....bravo ! 💪🏻👌🏻🇺🇸
Yeah it’s prob gonna be the kids car and he probably doesn’t know his way around a manual trans
Watching this video makes me excited to soon work on my 1979 z28
Honestly same thing here just bought my 1980 camaro and already super excited to work on it
@Canada hahahaha ikkkkkk his looks so good. One day I’ll get one, you can get nice low mile good condition z28s for around 10-20k so it’s really not that bad
The last summer of the 70'S
T-tops.Tube-tops.Short short shorts. We thought it would never End!!!

well both my step dad and my real dad were both assholes and so i don't really have a father...
Wyatt Curtis Good for you
I graduated high school in 82 . Good looking blue, nice wheels, remind me of the 80's Centerlines...
I have the same rims on my Camaro. Lol
OMG, what a craftsman. That is nothing short of a stroke of genius.
Nothing like father and son building stuff like that is just beautiful and makes me tear a bit .
Very nice restoration. I have my own 79 Camaro that I restored. Mine is at the other end of the spectrum mine is a Carmine red metallic 250 inline 6 3 speed standard with AC and a factory vinyl top. Wowww Beautiful restoration👏👏 Nice video
I got a 1979 z28 camaro this make me wanna get back working on my first car
Loved it. My Dad and I did similar on a 1974 Z28 in the mid 80s. Buddy had an '81 real close to yours. Great looking interior and rims are period correct sir! Centerforce I believe?
GREAT JOB guys!!!! LOOKS AWESOME!!!
I hope I can my 79 z28 to look that good . Great job on the build!!!
Car looks great keep up the good work
Always loved that car . A friend of mine back in the 80's had the same exact car down to the centerlines
great job, but I would have kept the 5-spoke wheels and had 'em painted black !!!
Man this video makes me miss my old '79Z28 I had back in the early 00's when I was in high school...was silver, and I always wanted to paint it a similar blue color to this one.
Nice work!
Awesome results.. Really makes me want to "re-build" one..
My dad restored a Z28 just like this I think 1983/84. I remember going to the owners house and dad applied the Z28 decals. The next day the owner took it to a car show and won first place in its class with a 6 ft trophy. He saw the car a couple of years ago same owner and it still looks good. RIP Dad
The last year for this body style was 81
When you guys have the camaro in pieces all over the yard, reminds me of that scene in short circuit where # 5 disassembles tim's camaro.
Red Bull it was a trans am in the movie but close
You're correct, i.m.c.d.b. says' it is a 1976 firebird trans am.
Awesome job. My sister has one just like it but the color is more turquoise.
Still a year later gives me hope on my 1979 camaro
For my taste the nice Z28 hood would have remained and rims look a bit dated but the rest is very nice Ithink these late 2nd gen Camaros are coming back in style ,,,,,,enjoy!
I agree.
Not a Camaro fan per se',
but stock type wheels and hood would make it close to perfection.
Always in style for me , I always owned at least one .. lol
Should have worded different I think they are coming more popular they were always in style !
Hell yeah. I'd wear a Mullet wig & a white T-shirt. Cruise all over town in that bad boy.
Un vídeo muy original más a pegado a lo que cualquiera de nosotros pudiera hacer, no como las restauraciones de sueños que nos pintan donde gastan un dineral felicitaciones quedo perdón el carro
Great work. I love a good DIY garage job restoration. This takes dedication.
Wow amazing build !!!! 🤙
Superb job guys ! Well done , what a beauty !!
My friend has one in this color back in high school. It had Hurst Hatches on it.

Very nice.... Love the paint color... GM paint code?.. Would have put a solid motor mount on the driver side... And... Maybe aluminum brake drums on the rear... Thank you for sharing your video.... Definately fun driving cars.... 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍

Beautiful car, how long did the restoration take?
same question i asked two months ago. till no reply so dont expect much response.
Dog-dish wheels + drum brakes = brake fade/disaster. Wilwood disc's on all four corners and hotchkiss suspension would be my add-ons. Good job on the resto !
Muhnster62 thats a good chunk of change to do that.
Beautiful! Very nice!
Un saludo buen trabajo
Nice color
Sweet ride.

I would never do that to my 79 t top or 81 camaros or my 49 buick straight 8 super but I have no regrets doing it to my 78
Bumblebee was a 75-77 Camaro
Badass ride
I want one of these so bad
I HAD A CAR LIKE THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL 1987 same color!
Great job!
My dream car is a 1978 camaro red interior black exterior with a t top
car looks mint my dude
Great job,bit i cant believe you would go to all that trouble and hang a set of $30 gauges in the console, when the Z had factory gauge package. You just had to make them work

Sad to see how peoples hopes and dreams can disintegrate like that because of lack of auto experience , grate resto btw
Blue no it goes Chevy red orange man Chevy motors go Chevy red orange if u like the blue that's cool to I was always told Chevy red orange the motor gets painted but still u doing a dam good just my brother
Cool
Start with a good donor car and end up with something nice. It had good bones.
chingon chingon
this is my next project so i thought i would check some out to see what people have dun with these so far i got 3 for free only need to build one the very best one it is a 79 z28 rs t top
Nice, the plug wires looked like hell but I'll forgive ya.
Bro please make timelapse or simple restoration videos,The Pic slideshows are sometimes boring
👍
I like it
Gorgeous

You know what ever happened to the old rims that used to be on this car ? Just curious , I like the way those style look on a trans am or camaro .
That´s awesome!
Nice
Awesome car Camaro

Restoring this vehicle must’ve cost a lot of money
awesome- !
