This album blows my mind. Great songs from top to bottom, maybe 1 or 2 are just plain good. But the rest are magnificent. Death Rattle, Axe, Uplift all back to back. If had to pick only one album stranded on an island, this would be it.
Agreed. This album doesn't seem to get the same love as the previous 90's Pantera releases. But it's awesome. "It Makes Them Disappear" and "I'll Cast a Shadow" are my favourites. But yes, it's definitely the weakest opening track of a Pantera album.
Agreed. The more you listen from top to bottom, you don't skip any tracks. All unique. The blues guitar solo on disappear is awesome. And shadow won me over after a few listens. Usually prefer their fast, super charged buzzsaw beauties, but this album changes things up a little, very effectively. IMHO reinventing is Pantera at it's best. Songs and chemistry are more intricate, and band sounds super tight and heavy.
Man me too. In high school I was so bound up in a rigid identity as an “indie” or “grunge” rocker or whatever, that I didn’t even give most metal the time of day. Over the years my music tastes widened and I somehow ended up listening to Vulgar Display of Power in my early 30s and instantly I was like “holy shit, how the fuck did I miss this?”
Well you're a good bit late, the meat and potatoes of that band are currently 6ft under (God bless Dime and Vinnie, RIP... you both made your mark on the music in your hearts and you will never be forgotten. Much Respect!) but it's never too late to jam on their music! They were definitely one of the best. Try listening to some Down, Anselmo's other band... they're good and sorta cut from the same kind of cloth if you will. Lots of really good band mates he has in this group as they have Panteras bassist, and the lead vocalist/guitarist from Corrosion of Conformity switching leads, rythym and playing tandem leads with Crowbars lead vocalist/guitarist. I'm pretty sure the drummer plays with one of those bands as well, just an all star super group line up... check out their NOLA album if you aren't familiar with them, I 1st found the NOLA cd somewhere and it wasn't in a case... it had a picture of New Orleans and that was it, no band name or anything so I didn't have a clue who it was but after I put it in I spent most of the next year listening to it everytime I was in my car.... I would have sworn it was Pantera. Awesome awesome record, every single cut jams hard all the way thru and once I found out who it was they became one of my favorites. Hey its never too late to rock and roll... bang your head and fly those horns, it's only mental metal madness!!!
@acid oblivion - I love this album. I love all their albums. In this order for me it's : 1.Vugar 2.Reinventing 3. Trendkill 4. Cowboys and 5. Far Beyond
this album was produced by a guy named Sterling Winfield, who turned out to be terry dates engineer on great southern trendkill, so it only makes sense he'd be brought in to produce. Maybe they couldnt get terry date for the album and went with the 2nd best option
Terry Date did a phenomenal job remixing/ mastering this.. brought out so much that wasnt / isnt heard on the original. a lot of details whether it was rearranging, adding, deleting... awesome job. thick.
Its specifically because of the disjointed nature of the Trendkill sessions that Dimebag insisted they record RTS together at Dimes house. They were closer on RTS than anytime since Vulgar. There's so much revisionist history around this album.
No está mal pero esta por debajo de sus dos anteriores la potencia vocal ya se nota disminuida si comparas con temas como slaughter nota de suicidio número 2 etc
Remember when an instrumental version of Death Rattle appeared in Spongebob? Seeing "special musical guest Pantera" on the screen that first time made my 12 year old heart leap in excitement. Pre hibernation week immediately became one of my favorite episodes
I didn’t find out about Pantera later on but I remember being little and watching that episode and loving the song, now they are my favorite band and SpongeBob was my favorite show growing up
Dime was amazing at getting THEE perfect tone in live shows, nevermind the actual studio albums, and, he didn't fuck up. If he DID fuck up, it didn't matter because it was always still the kind of "fuck up" that could have EASILY been left on a studio album, anyway. This album is viscious. I like all of their albums. I love them. VDOP is probably my favorite just because the songs are written so amazingly and everything flows together magically.
Simply delightfully smooth and sublime. The calm with which the lyrics were written takes you to places where the palm tree looks into the ocean like Snow White's mother in the enchanted mirror.
Was first exposed to Pantera at about age 12-13 in 1994, about when FBD came out... I instantly knew they were the most badass shit out there, although it was still kinda scary to me, I knew before too long I'd be into this shit... became accustomed to Vulgar first, and then Cowboys... had to kinda psych myself up to sit through Far Beyond, it was so intense and heavy and dark... quickly became my favourite... I was definitely the most fanatical Pantera fan of my age group in my little backwater town... I was 14 when Trendkill came out, it absolutely blew my mind, it was EXACTLY what I wanted from them at the time, and so much more!!.... and six months later Pantera toured Perth, Western Australia... 10 hours on the bus from my little rural hometown, but that night changed my life forever!! Still the best night of my life... will always be. I can't even describe how it felt to be there with my heroes, in person, playing my favourite songs, within 10ft of me... losing both my shoes and destroying my neck so bad in the pit that I had to hold my head up by grasping a handful of hair... 5000 other metal freaks just like me... for the first time in my life, I felt like it was totally okay to fully be me. ... by the time Reinventing came out, I was lucky enough to see them again 5 years later in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada when I happened to be living in Toronto in June 2001... that was with Slayer and Morbid Angel... whilst I really enjoyed that show, I'd been a little bit over Pantera by that time if I'm honest and it was more a kinda nostalgic thing to go see 'em. I'd felt a bit underwhelmed by Reinventing, actually... and had kinda moved onto other things. I appreciate it a lot more these days... and rocked out and had a fantastic time that night, but... didn't realise it was actually the final days of Pantera. Although with the benefit of hindsight, some of the things Phil said onstage came to make more sense over time. The tension was there. Since then, I've seen Hellyeah, Down and The Illegals on various occasions. Have enjoyed them all. Don't know if I'll ever go and see the new Pantera with Zakk etc... not sure. Maybe, but doesn't really interest me too much at this point. I do, however, feel sorry for those who never got to see the real deal live. I feel very lucky to have done so twice. This band is such a part of the person I've become. The impact of Pantera on my life is inexpressible.
