    My dr was pissed when I told her I was no longer going to take the birth control pills. She tried to talk me out of it, did her spill on if I'm not ready for kids yet pills are the best option and even said "Fine, you'll be pregnant in a few months." I've been off for 3 years and have kept a chart and I know my body better than ever.

      +Ambrosia Malbrough You go girl!!! When I first started everyone was pretty skeptical, but now they're all onboard...and dare I say a tad enlightened ;)

      great for you. i honestly don't even tell doctors about using fertility awareness because most don't understand that its not rhythm method. I just say the i use condoms and do not want artificial devices or hormones in my body for religious reasons and that shuts them up real quick.

      Ambrosia Malbrough It's none of her damn business it's your body! I hate when doctors try to push their own agenda on patients

    This is how I feel when people say vegans don't get protein....

    • @FemmeHead
      @FemmeHead  8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +SophiaMarie92 Ha! I "enjoy" when people ask me about protein, calcium, blah blah blah because my new response is asking them if they have every charted how much of each they are taking in each day, and when they look at me a little dumbfounded I respond with the fact that I have and I am well above everything and had to cut back on my protein, fiber, etc because I was getting so much.

    I feel like for some people what they know to be the rhythm method is FAM, i.e they refer to FAM as a type of rhythm method. May not be true for older generations, but worth noting.

    When I told my Mom I was using FAM, she was like, "that's the rhythm method!" and then she told me I was going to get pregnant. well, its been working just fine now for four months Mom!

      Been using the same method for over a year now and I must say I know my body better than ever. I just want you to realize that the hormonal birth control does cause your body harm in some way. My doctor told me it Can cause hormonal imbalance and also change in estrogen/progesterone production levels. I also want to say that it can cause infertility if taken for too long.

    Have you guys ever told a gynecologist when they ask what is your form of birth control you say fertility awareness? I tried asking my gyno last visit about it when she asked about what form of birth control I use, and she highly discouraged it. I feel like I can't even be honest with them which is frustrating. I understand that the unreliability comes to all the possible human error, but I think if a person is willing to become educated and committed to doing it right it shouldn't be discouraged. Arghh frustrating.

      +Dee Al I feel your frustration! My last gyno visit I just wrote on my medical info sheet that I wasn't using the pill anymore, and she was very hesitant with me and kept talking about condoms, and I just smiled politely because I didn't want a lecture about going off the pill. Unfortunately doctors aren't taught FAM and therefore often don't understand it.

    • @jaclyn3052

      +Dee Al The reason they cannot condone the practice is because if you get pregnant they don't want to be held liable for that, if they said it was okay to use that practice. Just do your thing. I have learned over the years that we need to take our health into our own hands because doctors are only taught certain things. I have been doing it for over two years now.

    So I noticed you added a note about the Standard Days/Two Days Methods at 1:52 as though they are the same as the Rhythm Method. It should be noted that those are NOT the same. The Standard Days Method, like the Rhythm Method, doesn't rely on observing fertility signs, but on calendar predictions. However, unlike the Rhythm Method, it makes it very clear that you have to have very regular cycles for it to be effective for you. Otherwise, they tell you to find something else. ;) The Two-Day method *does* use a fertility sign, cervical mucus, to determine when you're fertile. The rules for it are a lot simpler than other CM-only methods like Billings and Creighton, so it's not as effective, but it still is observing a fertility sign.
    Now, neither of these methods are at all as effective as the Symptothermal Method. I wouldn't recommend either of these methods to someone who is highly motivated to avoid pregnancy, but it still should be acknowledged that they are not the Rhythm Method and are more effective than it is. In fact, with correct use the Two Day method has a failure rate of 3.5% annually and the Standard Days Method of about 4.75%. Check out this link for the best evidence of all Fertility Awareness-Based Methods' effectiveness. sympto.org/data/Fertility_awareness-based_methods_of_family_planning_2013.pdf

    Very good video! I've always been interested in this, and very recently a few in-depth articles on this have been published, mainly focussing on cycle-tracking apps and that the knowledge they gather is actually new when it comes to the scale.

    • @FemmeHead
      @FemmeHead  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +StrongImaginationA I love the new apps because it's helping charting gain popularity, but I just read an article about how girls are using these free apps as birth control instead of actually properly learning about FAM, which is concerning.

      That's problematic indeed! When I was thinking more about this, I remembered that most of the knowledge I have on periods did not come from my biology class, but is actually stuff I gathered from progressive & feminist blogs and vlogs. We only learned about the 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14 and maaaaaaybe the mention that not all bodies follow this pattern, but nothing else. And I live in Belgium, a fairly progressive country when it comes to body talk.

    Actually some comments in order here. First, any even remotely good presentation of the rhythm method NEVER said all cycles are 28 days. Second, ovulation was determined as occurring MINUS 14 days from the length of the cycle. So, if your cycles varied from 28 to 33 days, ovulation could occur from the 14th to the 19th day of the cycle. Third, very early on, in the 1930's, it was recognized that ovulation could occur on day -14, plus or minus 2 days. So, using the above example of 28-33 day cycles, ovulation could actually occur from day 12 to day 21. What doomed the rhythm method was that its failure rate varied from about 14% (fails every 77 cycles)👍 to 86% (fails every 5 cycles)😮. In other words, if the wife is irregular, the amount of abstinence can be quite depressing, and the couple can ALSO have a large family: the double whammy.😰 FAM are a lot more reliable; however, if a woman had a VERY regular cycle, rhythm COULD be reasonably effective.
