Godot I wouldn’t be so sure regarding the jazz piano playing, considering his age. Both are geniouses. Jacob is however a singer and multi-instrumentalist too. I’m enjoying them both.
I wouldn't call Kim a genius, he's just another above-average jazz pianist that, unfortunately, exist in excess nowadays. Collier is special, I strongly recommend that you watch "Imagination off the charts: Jacob Collier comes to MIT". After watching this video, compare Kim and Collier.
Godot In my book he’s far beyond average and someone I greatly enjoy. And yes, I’ve seen pretty much everything with Collier and don’t deny his genious (even bought his CD). From a strictly pianist perspective, I like his Spectrasonic Keyscape improvisation best though, as I’ve heard enough of the ”vocal harmonizer thing”. I think that one man never can replace an actual group of singers, nor group of musicians, although few would do it better.
The vocal harmonizer is only used in live performances. He's talked in great detail about how it does limit his imagination, as he cannot have different sounds panned to different sides of the room, which he can achieve through editing, and has done in most of his arrangements. The point I was trying to make was that Kim, unfortunately, not far beyond average. A lot of my band members can play the piano very close to if not better than the level at which Kim plays it. What Kim's doing is amazing, he has already amassed a huge fan base (77k as of this comment) and uploads a new piece relatively frequently, but to call him much higher than the basic standard for jazz would just be lying. A quick search on TH-cam or Spotify will return countless better pianists. It's a sad truth. There really are too many.
