  • This video is meant for new stamp collectors who struggle to identify the difference between flat plate press and rotary press printed stamps. We go over how to identify the two different printing styles using a couple of methods! First the millimeter measurements of the stamp design and then the classic method using a easily identifiable flat plate stamp with cut-outs to lay on top of your stamp in question. I hope this helps someone!

Tasty!, always looking for any information to ID early US stamps. Some stamps have that line on the perfs, that helps. Thanks for this info, keep cranking those videos.

To determine whether a stamp is flat plate or rotary, I scan the stamp, get the image upright and then measure the image.

Thank you for the video Kyle. Really appreciate it. I still struggle with such small minute differences in the measurements though. I probably need a better perforation gauge

Sure thing. You could always use the method at the end where you cut the corners off of the Franklin stamp.

Thanks so much! Well, it definitely helped me, the absolute beginner! I have not even known yet about the two printing methods and that it is of importance for identifying stamps. 😆 ... Kyle, where can one buy that gauge?
