A significant lake effect snow event has been ongoing across portions of western New York overnight. The band off of Lake Erie has led to heavy snowfall, reduced visibilites, and drifting snow. Traffic on i-90 from Dunkirk to south of Buffalo has come to a halt due to the snow. Semis can be seen stuck and unable to move, as well as cars being pushed out of the roadways. Lake Effect snow warnings remain in effect for the area through early Wednesday.

Lake temp is around 8 degrees on the South Shore... 10 in spots mid lake... This feeds these hungry bands. Welcome to our little part of the world in winter 😎
@babskaz74Yes, this has been the problem the last several winters, eh? I'm in St Catharines and we've had a snow drought. Central basins and even to the shores, ice formation has been at a minimum for several winters, and this gives way to what we're seeing now. Normal temp for the lake is about 10 for this time of year. With the El Nino pattern, it'll be interesting to see how this winter unfolds.
I used to live in Dunkirk. Now, I just sit back and love watching these winter storm videos from my home in Phoenix, AZ. 🤣🤣
