I felt you when you said kippy, i had a bird and i couldn't leave her alone for 5 minutes, but i eventually i had to let go of my baby girl, BTW you're the most amazing botanical youtuber I've seen, and your videos helped me a lot in the past 2 years ❤️❤️
I literally look forward to these videos every day on my breaks at work. I saw one of these at my local nursery, but they wanted an arm and a leg! Hopefully I find one soon for my mum 😃😄😁🌱✂🌿
I love this plant. It may be hailing from Japan, but it has a very tropical feel to it. It is also very low low maintenance. I bought a beautiful one at Ikea for about $20, which I thought was a great deal.
I always found this palm so fascinating and cool looking, but now that I know it is toxic to animals I probably won't get one because I have two kitties and I wouldn't want either of them to get sick. thanks again Summer this series has been so much fun and I once again appreciate all of the time and effort you have devoted to it.
I'm amazed you touch the foliage so much. The ends of mine are so sharp they're like thorns. I always end up jabbing myself when I try to check the soil moisture haha. I consider that the biggest downside to this plant. Mine is very large so the danger zone of getting poked is quite big!!!
When i was in grade school i thought sago palms are coconut tree bonsai because my uncle used to make bonsai tree. I was under the impression that sago palm is a product of bonsai making. Funny but then reading books helped me understand.
I have a Sago Palm one of my favorite plants my question is I do use a slow release food for it I only feed it once a year should I be doing it more often
I have yellow freckle-like spots on my leaves. Otherwise, it seems to be doing good. You didn't mention how it likes it's soil, moist, dry, etc. Thanks!
I have purchased one of these plants recently, looks about the size of yours. I too re-potted it in terra cotta. So, do you water it as if was a succulent?
No i would water it a little more often because it is a tropical plant. Just water it whenever the top is dry. For succulents water it when you can feel dry soil in the drainage holes.
Cycas revulta is a sun worshipping plant. They live in between rocks and limestones in the islands of Asia, not just Japan but they say it originated from Japan. One thing to remember though is how they propagate. As they live along the ravines beside the seawater, seeds tend to fall off letting the waves take the seed anywhere in the world, thus propagating it. Im growing mine in a full sun condition and it is a monster. It looks good as a centerpiece in my garden.
summer, am I going crazy or have you forgot to talk about watering this baby? I just bought one like 15 cm tall, it has only three leaves (I'm assuming it's a compound leaf when I say only three leaves). I didn't even know what it was, as supermarket I got it from had it down as calathea. I knew it wasn't calathea but that's about it
Great video! But I have one question. I assume the fronds are poisonous but are you able to touch the fronds without any issues and the same for Dog's and Cat's? thx
I LOVE this series so much and have been waiting for sago palm. Question: my partner loves these, but we have pets and don't want the risk. Are there any plants that anyone suggests as a substitute if you love the look of this one? Gracias!
Any advice you could give to someone who messed up completely and didn't fertilize during it's growth period...the beautiful new fronds that popped up (surprising me, because I knew too little about the plant) ended up with it's leaves brown and curled for lack of nutrients (I soon realized)...it's sad...I wish I could show you a pic. I still have it because it's living, but...it's not a beauty
What is going on with my plant?! It has three crazy shoots growing up from the middle! Supposedly this grows slowly but these shot up to almost two feet in two weeks! What is it?
I just noticed that on mine too! It only had seven fronds up until now, and I heard it only creates one new frond per year but there's atleast five new ones forming
I bought one from local store. I do have a question can I spray something to it to deter some bugs? It’s also a little overwater :/ I want to save this plant.
Hi Summer 👋 I just purchased this plant and I have 3 cats. I had only 10 min. at home Depot to choose a plant and didn't have time to check for the toxicity. I wonder, do these plants emit anything into the air that's toxic or is it from animals chewing directly on the plant ?
i planted one and all the leaves died off not sure if its because of the clay in the soil or the the mulch that the chickens keep kicking all over it lmao
I have one of these and my 2 cats are pretty good at leaving it alone, they do at times tend to rub their cheeks and chew on the needles a bit, but don't actually consume the plant... My cats have plenty of other house plants to nibble on that are also technically poisonous, but both kitties are perfectly healthy. The only plants they actually eat, and it irritates the hell out of me, are my ferns. I have 2 Boston ferns and 1 asparagus fern that they just can't ever seem to get enough of, it's very annoying, but if that satisfies their needs for greens and they're still healthy and happy after 3 years of it then I guess I should be glad they eat what doesn't harm them, but use what will as a tooth pick rather than a meal!🤷♀️
I don't think so that this plant is a native one in Japan because it is not found everywhere. Mostly, plants like this are imported. Japanese are not fond of this plant too.
omg,, I just know its toxic,, which part is toxic,,?? I have many of cycas at my home,, sorry for bad english, I dont know if it suitabke with my place, I live Indonesia, a tropical country, in equator line, yes it slow grow plant,,
What a pointless video, the information given could have been obtained by a 3 min google search and the plant looks newly bought, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's not even alive anymore...
I'm so sorry to hear about your chicken, I can see the grief in you face when you mentioned it. RIP Kippy

Oh my gosh!!! Thanks for letting us know! I just bought this and will retuning it tomorrow! Didn’t know it is highly toxic to pets
I just ordered 7 Sago seedlings this morning.
They’re my first, so I’m excited. ✨✨
Great video! Cleared up a lot of questions I had.
I just picked 2 of these plants up and had no idea how to take care of them properly.

i watched your video about the cycads. it was so interesting. i have a sago palm and i love it evenmore after watching that video.
Rest In Peace Kippy! Love your videos Summer and hope you're doing well right now.
I overestimated it's drought tolerance and now mine is looking very poor. 😥btw it's a pretty popular landscape plant in India
I'm amazed you touch the foliage so much. The ends of mine are so sharp they're like thorns. I always end up jabbing myself when I try to check the soil moisture haha. I consider that the biggest downside to this plant. Mine is very large so the danger zone of getting poked is quite big!!!
Thank you for the notes to this. I have one and it is happy, nice to have some extra detail though.
My parents are right now taking some pups from a big mother plant we have, she's thriving haha
I grow up in my House in Africa with one with a trunk about 7 feet and it used to put up bulbs all the time that become tiny cycas
Does it like afternoon sun? I have a west facing window.
I like cycads alot because they go well in succulent collections. My favorite is Encephalartos horridus (blue form)! I hope I spelled that correctly!

In one of your posts you mentioned about a home make over project. When is it scheduled?

What about watering soil etc...

I have that plant at my home...and already got many pup(*sorry im not good in eng if i wrong)....but i dont know how to take it out

Mine didn’t do anything for 3 years. Then this year shot out two shoots which quickly tripled the size of the plant..
If they grow much longer than the previous fronds, your plant is not getting enough light. C. revoluta needs a lot of light to grow properly.
So exactly what kind of soil should i use to repot? Like name an brand please 😭
I bought one from local store. I do have a question can I spray something to it to deter some bugs? It’s also a little overwater :/ I want to save this plant.
Yep..I have a cat who almost died from a Dracena..no more drama for me!
Nothing gained if not ventured... look into the good time you and Kippy had have. 🌈
Hi I have sago palm and iv notice long stems growing out of the seed,is that nature?
Ive had mine for about 2 years.
I never knew this poisonous

I have a Russian Blue cat. She doesn't nibble on it. The only thing I've ever seen my cat nibble on is grass. 🐀🐾
I have them growing on my 1/2 acre & also coontie palms.
Love you darling and god bless you ❤️❤️💐💐💓💓💓💓💐💐🌱🌱🌱🌱❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wait how did kippy go? D;
I have two cats but they have no interest in munching on the plant. Thank God.

Had the scale issue.

Sago Palms: I kill those. Really like the look, but can't keep them alive.
What a pointless video, the information given could have been obtained by a 3 min google search and the plant looks newly bought, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's not even alive anymore...
I'm vegan are any of y'all vegan
Don't really care.
No...
You make cats eat things they're not supposed to... They're not supposed to eat corn stop forcing your pets to be vegan just because you are
