Thanks for posting this… both educational and hilarious! Not sure how funny it will be when I dig into my mine. Has to be done because I hate my feet being cold.
Thanks! Always gotta have a little fun out in the shop. That’s why I had to do something with this one. Cold WNY winters weren’t any fun! Good luck! It’s just metal it can be fixed. Thanks for watching!
If anyone else is in this boat, check your drip rails! The seam sealer up there goes bad and lets water drip down inside both the front and rear pillars. I’m convinced that’s the reason the cab corners and outer floor pans rot out
Good call! I’ve noticed on a couple that I’ve painted that the seam sealer is all cracked out. Never gave it a thought about leaking. Makes sense! This was a farm truck at one point in its life so the cow crap probably didn’t help. All this job was for was to stop the wind blowing in. Thanks for watching!
Good luck! I hate body work but this was kind of a fun project. Not going for a show truck, just trying to stop the wind coming in was a nice change of pace. Thanks for watching!
My f350 front body mounts and floor pan failed and now my door won’t close without having to lift it to close . Rubs real bad… Iv never welded in my life so any helpful advice would be great!
It’s just metal, it can be fixed. The best part about floor pans is no one can see your welds lol! Get yourself some scraps, and start running some beads. You’ll figure it out. Make sure the metal is clean and shiny. You’ll want to weld in some temporary bracing if you’re cutting the cab mounts out. The good part is they make new ones. Best advice I can give is don’t be afraid to try it yourself, and have fun! This was actually a fun job to do, for some reason I enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I have a huge soft spot for this old truck. I’m a huge OBS ford fan. If got an 89 regular cab short bed 2wd with the 300-6 and a 5spd sitting down back, I’m debating on what to do with it. Either lower it or swap in a 4wd front axle and t case. Haven’t decided yet. Thanks for watching!
@@karnesmotorsports lower it. Also, drop a saginaw power steering pump in it to eliminate the dreadful whine, the lowering process would make it quite responsive, but keep it as a truck you can daily so its always being used having fun in it
You can do it your way in your video. I didn’t think it was worth the extra time to butt weld it. It’s just a clapped out old farm truck, would’ve been fine using some self tappers. Thanks for watching.
I was using a Hobart Handler 190 mig welder with .023” solid wire and 75/25 argon. I set it at #2 wire speed around 60. It’s not a bad job to do, was actually kind of fun. Thanks for watching!
I got the floor pan from rock auto. The sheet metal I used along the inner rocker buy the seat I cut out of an old ford truck hood. You can get the sheet metal anywhere 18ga would work just fine. You can try to sand the rust down. Get it down to bare metal, see how many holes are in it, replace material as necessary. Thanks for watching!
Cut out everything that was rotted though. Inside of the rocker, back of the cab mount. This was not a restoration quality project. This was a patch the hole in the floor to keep stuff from falling out type job.
Good luck! Remember “a flap wheel and paint make me the welder I ain’t!” Have fun with it! When you get done you’ll have learned a lot and be able to say “Hey I did that!” Thanks for watching!

I love that color! My 2000 F250 was similar. It was called Light Island Blue. In some light, it looked blue, in other light it was a greenish color.
It is a neat color. Not to common. I had a 92 f250 that was Bimini blue and white two tone. That was my favorite paint scheme.
"Any idiot can do it" thanks all I needed to here! Gonna get after it,
😆
this idiot figured it out! Lol thanks for watching!

You had me until you said you were going to leave an inch and plug weld. What a shame.

I got a 89 f150 I'm going to have to do something similar fortunately I don't think it's as bad... But haven't removed the carpet yet 🫣
It was a fun project eventhough I hate body work! Not going for show quality was a nice change of pace. Thanks for watching!

My whole truck was glued together haha from factory anyone got this just with some time
This idiot figured it out lol. It was kind of a fun project! Thanks for watching!
Where are you located, I need the same repair on a 97 f-250, I can bring it to you with the interior out.
Western ny
love you
About the same amount of fucks I had on mine haha love it
There’s a time and a place to make one look like factory. This wasn’t it! Lol thanks for watching!
Did you cut the rust out underneath it?
Cut out everything that was rotted though. Inside of the rocker, back of the cab mount. This was not a restoration quality project. This was a patch the hole in the floor to keep stuff from falling out type job.
I'm doing a floor patch on my 1996 F350 powerstroke only rust spot on the whole truck
This idiot pulled the seat and carpet on my 96 F250 today. Gonna try to get it all patched up tomorrow. We’ll see if any idiot can do it.
Good luck! Remember “a flap wheel and paint make me the welder I ain’t!” Have fun with it! When you get done you’ll have learned a lot and be able to say “Hey I did that!” Thanks for watching!
Is it the same process for a 99 f350 as well or similar enough 🤷
I would imagine it’s very similar. Cut out what’s bad, and weld some new metal in.
