I test rode a 2022 Honda Africa Twin and enjoyed it. Compared it to my 2019 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure.

I live in Medellin Colombia and it is a super hilly big city. You can easily find yourself at the stop sign on a super steep hill and having to make a right-hand turn going up too so clutch work is really hard to do. Also on some off-road conditions as well! I love being part of the machine too. But you can do that with shifters too!. I would agree and say the BMW is better with TFT controls and I did have a drive-shaft bike years ago and love them. Not sure I would off road though!

Well, I have a ‘22 R1250gs and a ‘18 Africa Twin standard. The AT is much better offroad and the GS is much better on roads, there was also a $11k price difference between the two.

Nice vid; but that looks like the standard machine and not the Adventure Sports. You also have the option to shift yourself. I had an ATAS, now a Triumph RE, and will probably pickup a GS next. Enjoying your channel.

I got my 1st bike at the beginning of the year and it's the Africa Twin Adventure Sport DCT. I bought it for several reasons but mainly my left leg is partially paralyzed and I wanted something easy for me to learn on.
I did just order my 2nd bike, the Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2 and I'll put a Pingel adaptive speed shifter on it to help me work the foot shifter. Love my Africa Twin though, I only use the manual mode and it has just enough power to be fun but it's anything but fast.

"slow and steady wins the race". The BMW has a big disadvantage, not mentioned here, that the AT doesn't have: German engineering. No need to go into details on the typical user experience on that. Another more minor, but still important one, is that the AT will run its entire service life on regular gas with no issues; the GS's 12.5:1 CR and more aggressive power adds a lot more risk to doing the same thing. So purchase price as well as maintenance headaches and cost of operation tilts a bit more towards the AT than may be commonly acknowledged....

My 2021 Africa Twin is manual transmission. I didn't like the DCT version.
It is limited to 125 Mph, as most of my " adventure " bikes are. Looking to get ECU flashed.
On a slight roller coaster road, hit a rise at 124 mph and caught air long enough to think; ' Oh sh-i-i-i-i-t ". 😱😱 Very stable and landed smooth and stable.

I see the GS and the ATAS as bijes that only have some overlaping capabilities but different unique qualities. The AT from all reports is better off road. It can tour with a pillion but the GS is the better bike for touring. I'm pretty happy with my ATAS DCT but I'd take a few seasons with the GS too. Id also like to try a season with s bike from the lighter end of the adv scale like the new RE Himalayan or the Triumph 400x.

Waste of time to evaluate Honda on tar roads. The Honda is king on dirt roads and technical stuff (probably 70% better ito handling etc). BMW marginally better on tar (perhaps 10% in performance). I have both the GS 1250 and Honda AT

haha 'turn switch it where it supposed to be'. Actually it wasnt for many years. BMW moving over to the current 'japanese style single button' from the original bmw style dual buttons left and right cause a riot all over the planet :) The regular GS is better onroad than the adventure. There is no use getting the adventure unless you actually intend to drive across Africa or something similar IMHO.

You're using an off road bike as an highway bike with the AT. there's a 150cc difference, completely different gearing, and others need that lightweight, that you give criticism for being born around, for lifting up the AT after a fall on a muddy road in Asia, The Alps, or in Brasil. The DCT is something beautiful for off roaders. And the delay is just something you need to get used to. And the cc disengage is a good thing on a gravel road.
You've given criticism to the AT on a field where one shouldn't use is. It's not meant as a commuter or highway bike. Therefore: you're video is redundant. And you didn't do your research correctly on the lookout for a new highway motorcycle. Learning younger motorcyclists a wrong thing, using an bike used for off road use as a highway bike, while there are much more better alternatives for a highway motorcycle, like cruisers.

I always love to hear from people who believe that the pinnacle of human brain capacity is the ability to shift gears manually. Also, before posting reviews, perhaps you should drive the bike for a bit, learn its basic operations, and then, maybe, you won't embarrass yourself by driving it in D mode and complaining that AT "has no soul". Obviously, the GS is on a whole other level of engineering (which costs an additional $10k, by the way), but honestly, your "review" is an absolute waste of time.
