    For those live streaming or quad screen switching/shooting/recording with the Shogun 7, the new Blackmagic Micro Converters will work with HDMI video sources. You can buy one per input as needed and power via USB-C. Set them to Level A, not the factory Level B setting.

      yes that is true. I use a mixture of the blackmagic and Decimator converters.. its just more of an inconvenience to need to do it.

    You've added some extra issues to the list that I wasn't aware of. I think they need to add a simple addendum to the manual to clarify a number of things about this unit, at least until they update the firmware and 'fix' a few things. Of course after the firmware update it will need an entirely new manual... It's a nice piece of gear but definitely confusing with the limited documentation.

    I'm having a few similar problems, especially with the exposure which I guess it tied up with the SDR/HDR thing. I need to get it sorted pretty quickly as I have jobs coming up where I need to use this.

      Yeah I haven't got a response from Atomos yet about that particular issue.. I do think that it would be that the converter isn't passing the metadata through to the shogun. I might try it with a blackmagic converter instead of the decimator and see if I get a different results.. the problem there is the only blackmagic converter I have is a hdmi to sdi so it wouldn't quite be the same.

    Its been years since multicam recording update came to the shogun. Whats your opinion now after 2 years on this device? Did they fixed those issues now? Any idea how does it compare to the ninja v with atomx cast?

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t remember the last time I used the switching capability of the monitor it’s been a while. So I havent actually checked whether some of those issues have gone away.
      When the Atem mini pros and then extremes came out that was enticing enough to switch over to using them for simple multi camera things. More features, button etc.
      As for the ninja v and atomx cast I don’t have either of them so I can’t compare.

    the live switching feature isnt compatible with some cameras. i hope they are working on something

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      which cameras are you trying to use? Like I say in the video if you convert to 3G SDI level A with a camera or drop the resolution to something lower it should work with just about all cameras.

      @@livingitliveaus thanks I saw that. I think that's the problem I have. I'm trying to make it work with canon xa11 . They don't have sdi inputs and I use a hdmi to sdi converter. I kept getting the sdi level b error so I think that converter you mention may solve the problem

    • @GCHUSTLEHAWAII
      @GCHUSTLEHAWAII 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@livingitliveaus its for a canon XA11. it does not have a SDI out .will the decimator work like the black magic bidirectional converters? it doesnt state on the specs that it will convert sdi level B to A and vice versa

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey yes with both the decimators and blackmagic converters you can set the output of the sdi to level a or b.

    Does the shogun provide some sort of tally light visible to the camera operator?

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean when in switching mode or normal mode? When you record in normal mode a read tally border comes up. when in swithcing mode the 4 input icons down the bottom change depending on if it is ISO recoding or Program out. the multiview also has tally border and icons to show what is on ISO record or program record So yes there is tally it just might be the way you want it.

    Great informative video, what was the main camera that was having issue with sdi type A though? I might have missed it but wasn't sure it was mentioned

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. It was a Sony x70 and z90. They both seem to output level b only in 1080p50or 60

    Great video Wayne, thanks. Just ordered a SGN7 today for its features, flexibility and mobility. Wasn’t aware of the HDMI level A/B aspect and rec frustrations hence, appreciate the insight. I’m going to be using a couple of A7s and a7s2 along with an A6300 for live band performances. Did also want a quality monitor first and foremost as well as a recorder though for HQ single cam rig filming with the A7SII.
    How do you find the switcher function and screen response time?

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The switcher function is good for a basic switcher, by that I mean while you can do a 'dissolve' transition that doesn't appear on the video output.. only in the FCPX xml file. And I am fine with that in this scenario I don't need a dissolve/fade I'm happy with just a cut transition. In terms of response time of the touch screen, I would say its amazingly fast/instant but it is good enough for sure.

    Can you set either SDI or HDMI output to also be multiview whilst the other is still program out?

    • @livingitliveaus
      @livingitliveaus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I know of.. they are just program out on HDMI and SDI.
