    First I want to say that Pete Thorn videos are the best on many levels. Regarding your Guitar Rig 6, I only have the light version that came with Komplete free. It only has one high gain amp but paired with the pro cabs you can achieve pretty realistic sounds that actually feel good playing them. I was actually surprised. I always read comments from people dissing these softwares and I have to wonder if they actually bother to learn how to use them starting with proper gain staging etc. I also have Amplitude 4 Max, Waves PRS Supermodels, Waves GTR 3.5, and Studio Devil Amp Pro. They all have their pros and cons and they can all be made to sound great, or made to sound real bad. I often see people making TH-cam videos with most expensive guitars combined with some of the most expensive boutique amps, and yet they sound like garbage. True Pete Thorn can make anything sound good, but not just because he's a phenomenal musician, much of it has to do with the fact that he learns the gear he plays around with, and knows how to make things sound good. He knows how to tweak to get great sound. That is as important as learning to shred.

      I did that but got the rude awakening that if MIDI program change works at all, they buried the controls. They aren’t intuitively obvious or easily discoverable. I’m worried they have this amazing piece of software that’s perfect for the studio but worthless live! Many of the patches are better than my favorites from GR5, but if I can’t replicate it easily on stage, it’s all fairy dust.

    You can check out Pete's presets in the demo.
    You can load your own IRs using the Reflektor reverb component; it loads all IRs, reverb and cab sims, etc.
    It comes with OwnHammer and 3 Sigma Audio IRs built into the new matched cabs, and Control Room Pro uses Redwirez IRs.
    For old GR5 (and new GR6) users it has all the old modules standard, for free; Reflektor, Rammfire, and all of the Solid, VC, RC, and Traktor, series', etc.

    • @Chamaelyon
      @Chamaelyon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I loaded some 3 Sigma Audio IRs for several acoustic guitars not really sure it would work. It does a decent job but I’m sure there’s more to it than what I did. They even have an IR of Segovia’s ‘37(?) Cordoba Houser.

      Pete Thorn has his own tone, which is hard to develop. You can tell Pete likes it cause he sticks with it. His tone is consistent, so when ya hear a song playing somewhere, and you're rocking out, a ripping lead fills the air, you'll say to yourself, that's Pete Thorn. He has crisp-ripping leads that are just the right speed for my taste, and it doesn't sound like spaghetti.

    Guitar Rig was my go to for recording guitar for a few years, but a few months ago started tracking with Strymon Iridium. I'm liking getting my tones "outside of the box" these days for a few reasons. Still use GR for bass though, sounds great. Pretty cool that they've included their standalone FX series like the Solid and Vintage compressors and EQ as GR 6 modules, those are great plugins that I use in my DAW all the time. Great demo tune as usual, the beginning especially, has kind of an '80s film noir soundtrack vibe.

    Hi, very interesting video! Is there any information datasheet (or something like that) where a sort of matching is attempted between the GR6 effects and the real effects? For instance, if I wanted to get a sound as similar as possible to the MXR M300 reverb, the Boss super chorus CH-1, or the Wampler Tweed '57, which GR6 effect should I use?
