    I think when you have a cat, you automatically learn to read them. After a while you will be able to distinguish the different "meows" and in what mood they are but also their facial expression and body gestures. They are fascinating. 😻

    I always thought that cats are very expressive animals. Their face and body expressions and different meowing. Not expressive in the same way as dogs, but in their own different way. The more you develop a relationship with them the more expressive they become.

    Once you've been around these felines for a long time, trust me you can understand them. At least I know I do; even when they are sick.
    From my observation, cats will do as they please; if they want affection, they'll come for it; if they don't, they'll keep to themselves or just let you know with a bite or scratch! 😅
    If any of my babies are not well, I usually know, given their normal routine or the way they look.
    I'm in-tune with them so it isn't hard for me to understand them 🥰

      You kinda miss the point. Yes, the title is not accurate but her research is on facial expression of cats and lack of. They've shown why cats couldn't make expressive facial expressions like dogs and human. Else, why would she need all the computer to mark the cats micro-expressions. If she does what any cat owners do, what's the point of her becoming a scientist. She's gathering data on things not normal people or cats owners realize. Thus, her results show that despite lacking muscles needed for expressive expressions, cat's can still show this very faint micro expressions that normal people would not realize

    You can definetly tell when a cat is angry or fearful. From their face but also their body posture. It's actually harder to tell when theyre sick or unwell over fearful/angry. And a happy cat is also easy to tell from face and posture - They will usually have their tail lifted with a curve at the end and have a soft squint face and blink often.

    Didn’t think I could learn any more from my fur ball and I just did. Are cats actually able to make out facial expressions if they cant see great close up?? Our cat picked us, came to our house everyday eventually his owners told us to keep him and what a life changer. I’d never have the confidence to get a cat and actually used to dislike them ....until the day he moved in.

    My grandma always tells the story of how there was a time in her life when she was in a lot of pain. I think she had broken her leg or something along those lines. She said that when she couldn't reach her bottle of pain medication, she'd moan and her cat would jump onto the night stand, grab the bottle with his mouth and carry it over to her. Not sure about the validity of the story, because she learned to be a habitual liar from her mom and aunt lol!

    As others have mentioned, you can tell far more about a cats particular feeling by its tail. Basically, if it looks like a "?" Or a "!" Your cat is happy. If its straight back, its curious, if its down and/or swishing, its irritated/upset/angry, and if its tucked or curled down, there is something wrong physically/mentally/emotionally.

  • @carlwilsonpc
    @carlwilsonpc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We have two cats that were born in house holds with large numbers of dogs. We were confused as the signals they were giving especially with their tails didn't match what they were doing. I E when they get excited playing they wag their tails. One cat in particular wage it's tail like a dog when my son comes home and ru bs round his legs as well till he's picked up so he can give him head bumps. once figured out they had cross of dog and cat behaviour s it became easier to read their moods and our relationship with them also improved.

    Nonsense my cats have a myriad of facial expressions especially in their eyes they respond to what we say to them with appropriate facial expressions.Our cats are very tuned into our emotions especially if we are crying or sad.Animals over time use more & more human like facial expressions because they learn & want to communicate with us.also ears, tails, body language and certain meows for certain situations, it all tells you how they are feeling if you have eyes to see.This lady is way off.

    Instead of testing cats to see if they have expressions that humans can read - why not test the humans that have experience with cats. We adapt to be able to detect much more subtle cues. Test us, with footage of cats, to see if we can truly tell what the cat is likely to do next just by watching it's facial movements. As an added experiment - we could be tested to see if knowing cats has given us an edge in picking up the subtlest cues from human faces. I think we just communicate on a higher frequency.
