I loved this design so much, I have the plans from when you first releasted them but haven't had the space to set up my own shop. My dad passed away a couple of years ago and I've inherited his shop and workbench, I've been slowly doing a refurb on the space. Moving his bench today I've found that parts of it are falling apart or lose, and given he made it over 40 years ago it's have a good long life. Looks like I will finally be putting the plans to use as I start the process of replacing his old bench. The spa day did wonders for your old girl there.
When I happened upon your channel you had just started building that bench. I noticed 1st thing that you were so meticulous with everything. I was so impressed. When I started seeing the bench come to life, again, I was so impressed. I watched that entire build. As I watch your videos, I still find myself looking for it. I was so into the different woods used and how they were used. I can honestly say that this bench is what got me into strengthening my woodworking skills. I went out and bought every tool/machine I could find. The first big project i did was a bench. I have your bench to thank for my interest in advancing my skills. Needless to say (but I will) that I was so happy to see that you were goinng to bring her back to life, again. You do such beautiful work.
Man your workbench video back in the day solidified not only my love for woodworking but my desire to learn joinery and to use Japanese style tools. Truly inspirational.
same. That was the first video of his i saw and was floored by how amazingly beautiful and also very useful the bench was. Have been watching and working my own projects since.
The only woodworking channel/TH-cam channel I have ever cried at think I’ve cried at three of your videos now. For the fans you know which ones I’m talking about. Love your work Bro!!
I fell in love with this design when you first made it. I knew that this was going to be the bench i make one day. Last year i finally got the courage to purchase your plans and finally start it. As a hobbyist, i never attempted anything on this level before. It intimidated the crap out of me. Covid put in me in the hospital and set me back a couple of months but starting this project was the physical and mental therapy i needed to get my life moving forward again. 122.5 shop hours later, i have a Samurai workbench that I will have with me for the rest of my life. Touching it everyday reminds me that with God's help we are capable of doing whatever we put our minds to. Thank you for the motivation and for helping me push the limit of what i thought i was capable of.
Looking back from this video to back when you first built the work bench your content has changed so much, I think back then you kind of lost your way a little and TH-cam took its toll, I have watched this channel for many years now I can see the happiness, humour and peace in your life…keep up the good work
Best Roubo bench build on TH-cam! Absolutely gorgeous, and saw the original playlist, which is what inspired me to move forward down this path. Well done, thanks for all the great content
Thank you Samurai you are correct I first found you because of the work bench build video. Good memories and wow what a great bench. Still your handy work and craftsmanship is #1!.
If I could steal one thing from your shop ..it would be the bench. The tools will break, the clamps will eventually weaken, but this bench will last generations. So awesome
I remember watching your original workbench video and being so inspired that I went out and built a workbench of my own based on your design using scrap wood and basic tools. Definitely not as good as yours but something I am very proud of. But to me personally your workbench is the most beautiful workbench I have seen.
The refresh turned out great. I watched you build the bench and saw your pride in making the bench. Those years ago, I ordered some rough-cut lumber, and let it dry for a year and a half. When I retired, building my bench became my job for three months. Figuring out how I was going to get the lumber milled, picking which piece of lumber would look best where, shaping the wood with the tools I had, and yes, even fixing the occasional mistake had become an accomplishment as each day passed. Others have remarked that they couldn't help but touch the completed bench, and I still feel that way when I go into the shop. The other day, I had a professional chair designer/repair man come to the house. I asked him if he would prefer to work on the workbench, or on the front room floor to fix our overstuffed chair. When he got to the workbench, one of the first things he did was to stroke the bench top. That project bench just calls out to be touched, just as everyone's bench that has been completed. Jesse's bench and plans have given so many the inspiration to build a very solid and useful workbench that is worthy of the pride and effort it takes to build. A bench that can be handed down for probably more than just one generation.
I’m a cabinet maker by trade and when I told my woodworking buddy’s about the Samurai Carpenter I would send them the original workbench video. Definitely left a lasting impression on me and inspired me to match that caliber of craftsmanship. Thanks Samurai
I remember that video inspiring me to try learning woodworking. My late father had a lifelong love of woodworking that as a dumb young person I blew off as I was learning to be a plumber. Now that he's gone and I look back at what he wanted to teach me I'm saddened but I have learned from my mistake with my own kids. That workbench build was one of the catalyst videos that ignited in me that same love of learning woodworking as my father had.
I always did general building but The workbench video (7+ years ago) made me say to my wife…. Hey I think I can do something like that! I now have my own shop and many Japanese tools so thank you sir for the inspiration! 👍
I dream of making a work bench like this. Have ever since I saw your video of you when you made it. What a magic piece of tooling and a work of art. Cheers
I think your bench video was the first time I heard about you. My grandpa got me into wood working when I was young, stopped during my late teens and my 20s. I got back into it the last couple of years now, your videos certainly had a huge role in that and it started with your bench. Thanks for helping me reconnect with my grandpa.
I remember when you built that it was one of the best bench builds I have ever seen. When I got the opportunity to meet you, then become a friend it was like a dream come true. I have been a fan for along time and love your skill and humor, but keep coming back for your honesty and integrity. One of the best channels on the Tubes!!❤️
I remember watching the video building that bench when it was first posted. I recall how you wanted the beauty of the bench to be coupled with the wear of using so one day it can be passed to your sons as a well used tool. I am happy to see it live up to the task after these years.
It was one of the first woodworking videos that I have seen on YT. I was shocked by the quality of your work, later that day I showed the video to my father and brother in law. They are your fans ever since and so am I.
I remember watching the original build videos. I loved your joinery and while I didn't have the money to use as good of wood as you when I built my bench I was channeling my inner samurai.
The workbench episode is one my all time favorite TH-cam videos. So much respect for the design, craftsmanship, skill, and then add in a beautifully written directed and edited production. The samurai had done this in the past but that video was next level for me.
Used Odies Super Duper oil for the first time today. Man I am so impressed with the stuff. Wish I could leave a pic here to show it off! It’s been a while since the workbench build. But really enjoying the journey!
That workbench video is without a doubt what made me a loyal follower of you. It is the video of yours that I constantly watch several years later. I have tried to find other videos that are as good as that one and have yet to find it. Great job and I am excited to see what direction your life will go as you build other projects. It is never a dull moment with you and your creations! Proud of you and who you have become on the journey.
I don't work with wood but I admire and have a deep respect for the process of an idea in its final form and all the steps in between. This work bench is stunning and so functional , it really showcases your talent and now I only watch Japanese journey projects, the art is amazing.❤❤❤ from Michigan Best wishes on the move.
The Workbench Build is what got me Hooked onto You and this Channel. It's so amazing how far you have brought this Channel. I remember watching that build video like 4 years ago when I found it and was in complete amaze that someone could build something like that and film it. Would love a shop memory lane tour and some before and after photos.
I had just bought my first house and was attempting to build a workbench out of 2x4s when the TH-cam algorithm suggested your workbench build video. Your bench, along with a few others inspired the start of a great rewarding hobby.
Not just the workbench video, but all the videos on the workshop itself were a great journey with stories, raising the beam into place, making the backdrop tool wall, the closet for the dust collection with the tools on display on the front will all be missed, but we can look forward to videos on all the new things to come, can hardly wait :)
I've been woodworking my whole life in some fashion, but the video of you making this workbench is when I turned the corner. so I had to watch this! keep it up man!
I have seen many workbench builds on YT over the years & I must say that Jesse's was hands down the best! So glad that you spruced her up and showed her some love. Good luck with the move and your new venture Jesse. Looking forward to seeing how you put together your new woodshop in the wilderness! 👍👍😉😉
After all this years I still believe that this is one of if not the most beautiful workbench I've seen and my goal to have when I'll set up my own workshop. All these years ago when I first found that video, You and your work implemented to my brain a passion for woodworking and it gives me motivation to further pursue my goal, Thank You for that
Watching you build that bench back in the day had me in awe of you actual awe the bench your saw horses even your hand saw stand were all done with such fine attention to detail that I felt the cocky air you have is completely justified and EARNED been an active patreon ever since

I like watching woodworking vids. I have seen a fair share of builders making benches. This one always stood out to me because of your own spin you put on it. Not only functional, but absolutely beautiful. If I'm not mistaken the bench build was among one of the first vids I watched on the channel.
Picked up some Odie's Oil from Rockler on your suggestion for the finish of a walnut slab tv stand. 600 grit finish and it looks like glass. Super easy to apply and buff off. Been using it on my guitars and classic longboard skateboard too. It even leaves a nice shine on plastic. Thanks Samurai!
Yessir I watched the workbench video series, bought your plans and promptly forgot the password to get the plans. Still haven’t gotten the plans, been meaning to ask you about that someday.😉. Whoever is getting your home is in for a Master Built Palace!
Man it’s kinda sad to see and think of u not in this shop. I do miss the lives and I look forward to your new shop but all the love you put into this shop makes it hard to see it go. Good luck on ur move. Be careful of rust on your planes like mine had but there’s an Awsome product out there that cleans it up so nicely that I shared on FB page.
I love your video's . Thank you for sharing them! Your skill is reflected in the absolutely unbelievable craftsmanship and beauty of everything i have watched you build over the years! You inspire a hobbyist such as myself to try new things ( and fail a lot) that in the end teach me to grow ! Thank you Samurai! Good luck on the new home and the off-grid place!
lovely work bench. i have finally gotten a workshop that can fit work bench so with the inspiration of yours i am making my own. in the middle of stage one right now.
That video is still one of my favourites, as it is the workbench. I personally think this is a piece of art. Actually my woodworking dream is to give this project a try one day and hopefully get close to what you accomplished.

It took a while to source materials because practically everything is chemically treated for termites here in Australia but my workbench was my Covid lockdown project. Built from reclaimed hardwoods it was my first major woodworking project (learning skills) and next up is a new dining table...It just has to weigh less than the 300kg workbench apparently...
that workbenche is one of the most beautiful benches I've ever seen one day I hope to build one like it I would build it now but I have nowhere to put it
Your work bench build is one of my favourites that you did. I marvelled at the beauty when first made and still to this day. Really enjoying your content, have done all ways but at this time I keep checking to see if you have posted as don't seem to trust the algo to let me know!
Looks fantastic! The workbench is definitely one of my favorite project videos. It inspired me that you took so much a care and love to build a tool for your craft and led me to a period of creating new benches, tool cabinets and feed tables and try to put in a level of care and love in those projects that keeps me inspired in addition to productive. All the best with your move!
Your videos back then were some of the videos that inspired me. I was going to build a bench but my interest in wood went the guitar route. Luthier. It was cool to see her again and to watch that grain pop. Such a beautiful piece of craftmanship. I was expecting you to level the top with a big plane. : )
That bench is a masterpiece. I made one from pine many years ago and dovetailed most of the joinery. When I finally get my new house built, I'm going to get after her and pretty her up too. I'll probably make another and yours would be the model. Very functional and love the center tool slots. I put magnetic strips around the back of mine and slap the tools on them. Very handy.
Your original workbench build inspired me and my Dad. We even bought your plans for it. Plan on building 2. Unfortunately still haven't built them though due to time and space issues between our shops. We have a lot of Red Oak set aside from my Dads property we'll mill down.
Oh the nostalgia… 🥺 You know something Mr Samurai? I watched you there with the wires running up from your back and thought “Samurai is going to rise up and ‘fly’ out of shot at any moment… but no… How could you abandon that fabulous work bench?!
It was like a Samurai love story about a man and his workbench. The sensual way that he cut the joinery made it clear how deep his feelings were for his one, true bench. A lifetime partner that is always there to bring him joy when he needs it the most. When he built her, he knew she was the last. 😛
That bench is one of the nicer one I have ever seen. I liked it so much it was the basis of my bench build. The first bench I have ever built. The hardest part so far is the triple wedged tenons . Very hard for me especially since it was my first wedged tenon ever.
I'm about to start buying my first bench. I've been following your channel for awhile. I would also like to bud a cabin off grid. But I really like this bench. Would like to see the build process.
I loved this design so much, I have the plans from when you first releasted them but haven't had the space to set up my own shop. My dad passed away a couple of years ago and I've inherited his shop and workbench, I've been slowly doing a refurb on the space. The workbench video is the one that made me one of your fans…I’m still here! Thanks for the great ride.
I really enjoyed your workbench build video. I may watch it again before I design and build my bench. Your a Master of the craft.
Thank You Sir.
I lost it when it cut to you sanding the handle. I love you, man!
Only the Samurai can make sanding seem fun....ha ha ha. Loved it.
If I could steal one thing from your shop ..it would be the bench. The tools will break, the clamps will eventually weaken, but this bench will last generations. So awesome
Lol that sanding party was pure gold.

Love it. That bench change my life 🙂 I purchased your plans and built my own and have never looked back since
It was an epic build that. We enjoyed watching the build from start to finish and have never missed one since.

Your bench videos were what inspired me to go to attend Wooden Boat building school
All your work is inspiring and this workbench is no different. It is definitely a piece of functional art.
It truly is a beautiful work bench. Mechanical art. Bravo.

Watching you build that bench back in the day had me in awe of you actual awe the bench your saw horses even your hand saw stand were all done with such fine attention to detail that I felt the cocky air you have is completely justified and EARNED been an active patreon ever since
A real testament to the quality of work you produce, it is a timeless, beautiful bench indeed. Good luck with the move 😀👏👍
I've been a fan long before the work bench video, but it definitely is one of your best👍🏼👍🏼

Damn, that Odie's oil is great stuff. Nice work.
The workbench video was the one that made me subscribe. And i have the plans to build my own one.
I love this video. Take the worst most boring task ever, then make an entire video out of it. Yet you made it entertaining as hell!!!

Still the best looking looking bench on TH-cam, or probably anywhere

Oh the nostalgia… 🥺 You know something Mr Samurai? I watched you there with the wires running up from your back and thought “Samurai is going to rise up and ‘fly’ out of shot at any moment… but no… How could you abandon that fabulous work bench?!
best sanding montage I've ever seen lmao. nice job
😂😂😂 long time viewer just catching up after a few months away. the editing of the sanding montage was next level. give that man a payrise!!
Best editing yet
Keep this up. Your content is on point you and the camera bro have way too much fun and we all love it
3:56 you’ve gotten pretty good at working your wood over the years!
Sweet bench.
I'm about to start buying my first bench. I've been following your channel for awhile. I would also like to bud a cabin off grid. But I really like this bench. Would like to see the build process.
The best Workbench on YT
I remember watching you build the bench and it made me realise how terrible I am at woodwork..... Thanks for that 🤪👋
Restored to her natural beauty.
That was my first video to watch and been subscribed with bell on ever since.
