She's completely right too. Sacrificing sleep never works, and top students almost always sleep 7-8 hours because sleep is essential to studying and remembering what you learned. I recommend "Why the Top Students are Never Tired" if anyone wants to learn more about this
Their major determines how much they need to study for their classes. I majored in physics and regularly spent ~8 hours a day studying. I once took a voting, elections, and campaigns class and probably only studied 4 hours the whole semester for that class and got an A.
Yeah-normally easier majors like psychology, ___ studies, business, etc will have a much, much lesser workload than physics/math/chemistry/engineering. There’s a reason these degrees are perceived as more valuable.
I dated a guy at Yale for a semester, and had this same conversation with him and his suite mates. They were shocked at how much more free time they had than I did. So if you ever need to ask that question again ask Cadets at a Service Academy and the Coast Guard is right there is New London and West Point, and kings Point are not far either.
The first 1-3 semesters you'll definitely be studying a lot if you go to a top university, it's tough because they want to weed out the students who aren't committed enough. But it also definitely gets more relaxed after that
When i was in high school, i only slept for 5 hours and sometimes, less. But when i hv in uni, i slept more and can have my daytime bed 🤣 (my major is psychology btw)

I had a roommate who was a comp sci major who consistently went to bed at 10pm. She rubbed off on me ans I started going ro bed earlier too so I wouldn't bother her.
Can someone explain to me why so many people still don't know what they will be studying? I mean you are already in college right? In Europe you choose before you even start studying, I don't understand :(
idk how it work properly but american can switch what they study in uni easily. They can often take up to 3 different subjects. From other videos of his it's only really america that has this setup, i'm British and you have choose 1 subject, it's v tough to switch, same for most of the worlds uni it looks like
a lot of people don't know what they wanna do in the future, so they would take the opportunity to go into college with an undeclared major, some with a little more favor towards one area. then they go in with a core curriculum, which helps them explore different areas as well. many even switch majors during their sophomore or junior year. I'm one of those who don't have one thing that we particularly love, but we explore along the way.
You don’t have to declare a major right away, for me I think I had to declare my third year, but then I ended up switching my fourth year and adding another major as well
Unrelated but I absolutely hate when news and people speak of aspiring politicians and say “They are a Yale graduate “ but they stop there, and expect everyone to be in awe and vote for them cause they finished Yale. As if it doesnt matter if their field was any relevant to their desired position.I would trust a modest university graduate in law and economics as an economy minister rather than an economy minister with an engineering degree from Harvard. Also, premed should not matter. Because I think too many people care about that tiny B.S. degree…

@@grass666 I don't think you understand what you just said. Do you know how financial aid works? You eventually have to pay the loan back lol. Looking at their website, 2022-2023 averages around $80,000. Multiply that by the number of years you're there. And no, you're not "guaranteed" a "free ride" if your parents make under 70k a year. Not only do you have to pay financial aid back, but you're also paying interest on that loan. Regardless if you're able to secure work-study, scholarships, or grants, that amount paying for the degree is still significant. But the money wasn't even my point in the comment; it's getting a degree you can get anywhere for significantly cheaper. At that point, he's just paying for the degree to have "Yale" on it, which means his parents probably do make above the income you stated, at 70k. I'm assuming you're still in high school; I'm glad I can give you some insight into how financial aid works.
@@CameronGraham-of7tc lmfao no. I actually go to Yale. please look at an ivy league uni website, they are very proud of their generous financial aid policy and plaster it everywhere. these schools have endowments of BILLIONS of dollars, they are fully capable of paying tuition for their low income students, so they do. my family makes 25k a year and i have a FAFSA expected family contribution of 0, so yale pays for my housing, meal plan, and tuition. no loans.
@@CameronGraham-of7tc these policies were instituted relatively recently though, like within the past 10 years or so, so I can understand why you might not know this if you're on the older side and don't know any college aged kids looking at prestigious universities. fyi other liberal arts universities besides ivies are following suit - i was able to apply to schools like Swarthmore, Vassar, and Barnard as well because they similarly cover full tuition and room & board for their low-income students

9-10 hours as a freshman is insane. i have a 4.0 and i’m in HS and i don’t even study that much in a week. about your point on IVY leagues, people only care about IVY schools for the prestige and how it makes you look on paper, as well as the insane connections you can get being surrounded by rich and highly educated people. it definitely has its benefits, but besides that, there’s no difference than a regular uni.
