They need to actually make spells, damage tables, etc era accurate. Until they do, everyone will do 40%+ more damage than they are supposed to in the early expansions, and spell scaling will be completely out of whack, which completely trivializes a lot of content. If they aren't ever going to bother to fix these issues, they should then at least use the opportunity to make a true Classic+, and you know... balance things half-decently. Why the hell is Venom of the Snake for Necros and Shamans in the state that it is in. I feel like the person in charge of revamping the dot lines couldn't actually do basic math. That spell is so overtuned, it is more mana efficient (6.67 DPM) than every other poison dot those classes get up through GoD. Many of the PoP spells are worse DPM or HPM than their Classic / Kunark / Velious / Luclin equivalents, because of changes made later in EQ's life that messed up early EQ balance.
Another really cool thing about Vaniki is it gets double loots. Sure, it's not randomized like Mischief is...but this means it also applies even to trash drops such as tradeskill materials. There are so many situations that make Vaniki's loot rules better. Just one example is if you are looking to farm an epic drop, even if there is someone already camping it...odds are they will invite you to their group and you have a new bro!
Early EQ had no balance Rogues were trash, so many spells are trash Wizards Al’Kabor line got nerfed from infinite targets to a cap of 5 like 25 years ago and then they never adjusted the mana cost so the whole line was hot dogshit
Because I had heard you were the leader of a super-competitive (sweaty, poop-socking, pick your adjectives) guild, I've always assumed I wouldn't like you. But then I listen to your videos, and they're very good. You don't sound like a no-life lunatic; you just sound like someone who really likes playing EQ and talking about it. I've played on and off since beta, and I agree with all of your points - especially the level-50 heroics. Some people don't like them, and I get that view historically (I remember that premium server back in the day - Stormhammer? - where you paid like $50 a month for a pre-leveled level 50 character with 51 AAs or something like that). However, today people aren't going to grind up to level cap by themselves in empty zones. They're going to pay Captain Spaghettios (that was funny) to do it for them. Now, they can pay Darkpaw instead - and that's a good trade-off. I play on live, and 6-box with IS Boxer. I understand that to many people that's cheating. To me, it's the only way I can enjoy the game enough to pay $90 a month for it. I hope the anti-cheat stuff focuses more on warping and AFK automation rather than just keyboard broadcasting. This video was encouraging if you like EQ, and had valid, justified opinions on a number of topics. Well done.
I am really concerned that Mischief did well on the launch queue because Thornblade absorbed a lot of the login server load. I hope they prove me wrong on the Teek launch.
Even how they handled the exp boost from the anniversary with Blevin, they didn't nerf it to the ground OR ban/suspend people over it. I was 100% expecting a something akin to the wine-quest over it.
As long as TLPs dont offer a classic experience without Kronos/Potions/Fashion mtx or use prevamped zones I will never be interested. The modern game client is not my cup of tea
I can get past the revamped zones and even potions, but Kronos farmers just directly impact the game way too much. I can ignore QoL MTX users, but it’s impossible to ignore Kronos farmers.
I’ll play and probably quit once it starts to feel really shitty. I play p99 still because I hated seeing everyone playing 6characters at once on the TLP I was on. It just felt like a way different game and there wasn’t much social interacting as there is on p99. I know everyone hates p99 but it feels smooth and they actively ban people breaking rules
@@adamwallace7638 The cheating, the boxing, the pay-to-win, the endless supply of tradable/RMT-able raid gear, the rapid progression through an endless number of expansions. What's not to love? As a p99 player I don't get it. We're just playing entirely different games for very different reasons at this point.
So you still leader of Faceless (Fury on Teek)? Just wondering because they stream sniped (I believe that's the term) another youtube streamer. wouldn't talk to them until they killed the named mob and said the camp was their even though the stream had been there for awhile. and it is all on youtube. Gotta be proud of guild like that. lmao!
I will never consider a TLP for as long as their anti-cheat policies are so poor. It is laughable that you can have a better experience on an emulated server with an all volunteer staff. Can't wait for DP to fumble the next plat dup response on Teek that leaves the economy in ruin.
I was kinda looking forward to FTE. People seemed to hate it at first, but then came to like it on Oakwynd. I even thought they might have had two Mischief clones, one with FTE and one without.
I can't wait for anti-cheat! My only hope now is they improve the engine and UI experiences. For us old hats we have learned to live with the awful UI but when I try to get new people to play with me they really struggle with it. It's almost always the single biggest complaint (along with character models and armor looks). But yeah, you're right on with all your points. EQ has been moving in a super awesome direction the last few years, even on live. Really proud of the team and I hope they are raking in the cash because they deserve it.
Indeed on the Vaniki front - I solo'ed Naggy and Vox both at level 1. Couldn't agree more about the rest! Thanks for the video!
Great episode! I really appreciate your insight into EQ.

You damn right. Can't wait for launch and to run with Faceless for the first time on my 3rd TLP. Previously played on Agnarr and am on Mischief.
As a cleric I feel called out. I do not get lost on the way to a raid target.... often... kinda.... dammit.
lol so true Vaniki is the Disney land of EQ. Great server
Teek is amazing

Once you go Self-Found, you never go back. Come to the light side, people ! 😆
@@adamwallace7638 And now, there's Quarm. Best of both worlds 😊
I wonder how many krono Darkpaw gave you to do this puff piece.
😂😂😂 but also you’re probably right
Which do I believe? th-cam.com/video/cxleZop1GtY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lYCgSlaceoGuyHmi ??

Walking around as a EQ billboard sometimes, had me rolling.
same gave me a laugh as someone that has spent prolly $300 on EQ etsy stuff
100% Agree. Well said!

Great talk.
I'm really looking forward to how expansive the anti-cheat will be ... My only complaint, xp bonus should start 22nd
27:50 if you crash the spaghettiO economy i will never forgive you
