Quarm is my best experience in EQ hands down. I played in 00-01, but I was in the Navy and going to sea every few months, so was never really ever to keep up. Plus it was the heyday of MMOs, so I played EQ, DAoC, Anarchy Online, EVE all at the same time. A small group of us from the boat played together, but mostly in DAoC, EVE and AO. Thank you Secrets for the hard work. Great series Zaide.
Im the person that took the screenshot of Zaide's rogue in a fungi and put it in our discord. I thought it was quirky and kinda neat. I did NOT expect the absolute shitstorm that it started lol. The discord freakout for the next few hours was highly amusing.
I want to correct you guys on why Project 2002 was made. They didn't make a server because of rotations. That was a lie they told to avoid admitting the real reason. They were in favor of rotations and I have IRC logs of them threatening to make an SK army to immediately harm touch raid spawns if rotations were not enforced. A rival guild forced them to poopsock and they quickly grew tired of it. The reason primarily was because Speedz banned them. He banned them because Rogean wanted one of them banned for threatening to DDoS Project 1999, and since they were troublemakers Speedz took the opportunity to ban anybody who touched that account and probably a few more because Speedz was (to be frank) a little ban happy; although they had a history of causing issues and exploiting. They decided to make the server immediately after their bans with the goal of attracting away as many of our users as they could and launched one month later. Iance advertised their server all over the place. They replicated our ruleset and rushed very badly made expacs out ahead of us, while pulling our code. They were telling their users that they were the ones who wrote our code. At one point Iance made a fake reddit account impersonating me to make me look bad. That is why we closed source.
Sorry for not bringing this up. I heard rumors of it, but wanted to share what I knew. I probably repressed it because a lot of that time was traumatic for all of us. Thanks for bringing the truth to light. Appreciate it, Torven.
Thanks! Quarm is the first time I am experiencing EQ and im so happy its classic in a pure form made by passionate people like you secrets. Love this podcast Zaide. Appreciate it!
LOL. Listening to the whole podcast and I know I either sent a PM to secrets or said somewhere in a now deleted channel that CT shouldn't be yelling "fuck" because it didn't really make sense lore wise to me 😅
I messed around with eqemu in those early days, another program called eq zone viewer was pretty useful back then too. I do remember that the client was always based off a certain patch of live as long as you had trilogy or platinum edition iirc. It stayed broken quite e bit and I remember just goofing off with gm powers and summoning bis gear for hours and hours to make the ultimate characters to run around and see what you could solo.
I got so distracted by other games and life. I now regret that because I missed the first legacy items available on Quarm :( Oh well! Great podcast! Thanks Zaide and Secrets! -Bloodvalor
They are still there to gather! They are no-drop now and the ones for sale are turbo cheap. Mana stones going for 2k plat in EC last night. Plenty of time to get in and get some of those kunark legacies coming up this summer.
@@orcd0rk Oh shit nice! I thought they were gone gone now. Thanks for this info! Do you know of anywhere that shows the legacy items currently available on Quarm?
I just started playing on Quarm yesterday. I Love it Secrets you did a great job on it. I will start streaming EQ again once i get my camera stuff in game working properly. I have tried the new patches and stuff still having some issues. Things I love so far is the no boxing and the community has been great. I am actually playing a cleric named Littlor. Normally on TLPS i would play a warriror and box a cleric but i wanted to just chill and clerics are always needed. My next char might be the war but we will see.
meh, Quarm has gone down the QoL toilet. its not everquest anymore its pixel welfare. im casual and still dont even enjoy this. EverQuest is about the challenge. p99 is too stubborn to do PoP and wayfarers are too stooooopid to do 1 box so EQ emu sorta sucks right now
I've talked about this on this actual podcast, but Luclin and PoP aren't suited to P99 style gameplay. VT, Seru, Ssra, Greg, Lcea, Burrower, Thought Horror Overfiend, AC, and the Grimling War are the raid targets. Out of that, I can think of no encounters that would be enhanced by line racing or contesting the encounters. Almost all of the raid loot is no-drop, so there is no reason to really not share the targets, and accessibility to targets would just ensure that you have an equal chance at obtaining the no-drop loot. Planes of Power would not benefit any from P99-style racing for the same reason. The tiered flagging system is at odds with P99 style raid racing. In fact, it would be an even bigger mess than Luclin. How do you expect to do Plane of Time races? How fun would that be? My opinion is it wouldn't be, and P99's raid design is at odds with the people enjoying the game. Keeping legacy items in - like Guise, Rubicite, Manastone, etc - has no effect and by Planes of Power, those items are functionally irrelevant anyway as illusions don't matter, Manastone is unusable, and Rubicite is terrible. Un-bottlenecking items has proven a net benefit to the game. We have seen less aggression between players, and guilds are cooperating to help each other, instead of one mega-guild dominating an entire server and every camp on it. The economy has not suffered, unlike what doomsayers have said - in fact, raid items are still not sold at all, because the amount of people raiding doesn't match the quantity of loot dropping. The majority of Quarm has stayed the same, or closer to the accuracy of game mechanics than P99 has. The only difference is the "QOL" that is found offensive has generally improved the experience for people.

Always love hearing more from her. Glad she was featured! Quarm has been my best EverQuest experience hands down.
Thank you Secrets, Quarm is my favorite Online Playground! Thanks for the great content, Zaide!
Awesome interview, love hearing all the EQemu stuff. Quarm has been great! SUPER looking forward to Kunark as well.
secrets and staff have done pretty good so far. I've played since launch and all the additions he's done is kickass
Secrets is awesome. Thanks for hanging out in discord and answering questions, love Quarm.

It's ALWAYS Abacab! To his credit, his shenanigans made the game better. There's always going to be an Abacab.

Great video !!
Did they fix the 3rd person camera problems yet?
Love Quarm except that

I tried to play Quarm, but the client was just too jittery and unplayable. Love the concept though.
