    Hi Gary, thanks for this tutorial. How would we implement this for an existing (large) list? Creating the group then shows the group has zero members. What's the cleanest way to pull the subscribers all in and allow them to opt-out of certain groups when the time comes?

    Hi Gary! After my contacts tried to edite there preferences they receive, for safety reasons, a link in there mailbox where they can fill in those preferences. Is it possible to edit this email by myself or is it fixed like this?

    You still have to go give the unsub option in the list no matter where in the link chain you are leading the audience. YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW if you leave this out.

    I watched this to check to see if I was missing anything, and I did all the same steps. But I am getting a HTTP ERROR 429 when the profile update link is tested.

      Hi Jeremy, the update profile link doesn't work in test emails. Send the email to yourself as a campaign to test.

    Gary, great video thanks for sharing. I have built out my Preferences Center and it seems to be live now. Is there a way to link DIRECTLY to the preferences center from the automatic footer?
    Right now my "update preferences" link goes to a new page which sends they have to click "email me with a link" Then, after getting the email they must click "update your preferences" again before they get to pretty new Preferences Center. Seems like a lot of extra steps, no?

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matt, the response from Mailchimp is "It's there to protect the contact's private information. If they were to forward the email, or if their email was hacked, the other person would have access to this data. So, that step prevents that from happening."

    Hi, Gary. The MailChimp system seems to be randomly unsubscribing some members of our audience. In one particular case, this person is being unsubscribed regularly (unauthorized unsubscription), regardless of what email address is used (we tried 2 different email addresses). For example, yesterday, I added a new email address for her, but this morning I received a MailChimp notice stating that she was unsubscribed; when I checked the audience list, she shows as subscribed. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? What do I need to do to fix this on our end? We appreciate whatever you can do to help us figure this out.
    FYI - We tried MailChimp's Helpbot, but it repeated what I read in MailChimp's articles about unsubscribes. We have the "free" account.

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sure is weird! I haven't heard of this before however if the email address shows as subscribed in the Audience you should be able to send email campaigns to that email address.

      @@GaryEckstein Thanks, Gary. Well, it happened again!?!! This evening, I sent out a MailChimp campaign and sure enough MailChimp unsubscribed this person this evening. This time, the audience lists shows the person as unsubscribed. Are you aware of any MailChimp Help feature or Comments I can use to let MailChimp know what's happening? I'm hoping what's happening to us is an anomaly.

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@holyassumptionmonastery557 It sounds like it is different this time as the email address is showing as unsubscribed in Mailchimp. If so it could be that the recipient has a spam filter or similar that is unsubscribing them. Unfortunately with a free account there is no means of contacting Mailchimp :(

    Are you able to automatically update created fields from a subscriber's preferences? I.e If a subscriber does not select 'newsletter' on their preferences, then they get taken out of the newsletter field automatically within an audience?

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The best way to do this is likely to use 'Groups'.

    Hey Gary, thanks for this video - really clear and informative. I have a question with the sign-up forms. When sending out a test email when someone clicks on update preferences it emails another link to their mail box, it does not take them directly to the form. Why is this?

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the preferences center setup then Mailchimp sends a second email to confirm that the correct person is in fact requesting the preferences update. The issue with email is that it can be forwarded to may people so Mailchimp is trying to ensure that the original contact is the person requesting the update.

    Hi Gary. Thanks so much for the detailed video. I followed all the steps, but it still appears like the link is broken when I sent out the email or do the “link checker” in the preview portion of mailchimp. I just feel like that I am missed some kind of step between creating the group in my contacts and then adding that into my email newsletter. If that makes sense!

    Hey Gary - this was great thank you and potentially solves a challenge I've previously been solving with multiple audiences. when you have this info how do you use the info in the group? And what if they're in a customer journey and you want to stop them getting more emails from that journey campaign but want them to get other stuff? How do you connect the info in the group to then tagging or untagging them so they are removed from a campaign but still get the next one they might be interested in? thanks

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ellen, Glad the video helped. In response to your questions:
      1) How do you use the info in the group? You may target your email to send only to certain a group/s.
      2) Customer Journey: You may add filters to a Customer Journey to excalde a group/s from continuing a journey.

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, once you've enabled the Preferences Center all you need do is add a profile update merge tag to your email (see mailchimp.com/help/add-an-update-profile-link/ ). When people click the merge tag they'll be taken to the Preferences Center.

    Hello Gary, many thanks for your great explanation. I manage so far. However I still face one problem. I work with the free version of Mailchimp. In the footer I have added I have a link to up date the email preferences and a unsubscribe link. Mailchimp places their own footer including the same options. However, my own 'update your preferences'-link re-directs to my signup form. The link from Mailchimp leads to no where. How can I adjust the link from Mailchimp (and then also remove my own link as otherwise it's double). Thanks for your feedback. Regards from Amsterdam, Léon

      @@leonjansen5668 ok. There is a bit of confusion (caused by Mailchimp) regarding 'preferences' and the 'preferences center'. Try this:
      1. Delete your footer and use the Mailchimp Footer content block to put the footer back into your email campaign.
      2. Get the hyperlink to your Preferences Center.
      3. Change the hyperlink in your email campaign footer were it says 'preferences' to point to your preferences center.

    If a contact uses the update form to add themselves into a group and then uses the form again and does not select that group, does Mailchimp automatically remove that contact from the group? Or does the update form only function to add contacts to groups?

    • @GaryEckstein
      @GaryEckstein  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alenni. When using the form, if the contacts selects or deselects any entry in the Groups fields then the Groups fields will be updated. If they, for example, update their name and don't change any Group information at all then the Group info. for that contact won't be changed.
