    Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!

    Also, if you allow me a suggestion that I regret not having done this on mine as well, put a LED string on the upper side of the top shelf as well.. as you could see in the last pic at the end when you turn off all the lights and just turn on the shelving lights, the upper side of top shelf is dark. But as always, great execution and awesome craft, Alex. You are the best

    Looks great, but I would have also added lights on top of the top shelf to add some glow to those plants as well.

    Looks great!! You could have just plugged the driver into the outlet and hid it under the desk and only ran the low voltage wire up the wall to the shelves. Would have made the install a little easier! You can get LEDs with a wireless rf dimmer remote and mount the holder to wall. Next time 😉

    Nice work! Why did you have the LED strips facing down instead of up? I was anticipating that you'd have them face up and at the front edge of each shelf simply to highlight the items on the shelf.

    Can you please do a video where you show exact measurements of the floating shelves and also how you made the router cuts. I'm having a difficult time making the side miter cuts line up. It's either to long or to wide.

  • @matthewholt94
    @matthewholt94 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I did this exact project over my wife's craft desk a few years ago, except I routed a channel for the LED's so they didn't go all the way to the ends. I also used plexiglass that I sanded as the diffuser, which allowed it to pick up some of the gray stain and blend in. She thought it was ridiculous until she turned them on. I should have had the camera rolling to catch her telling me I was right, then maybe I could get away with a few more things in my projects haha.

    I have a question about the wiring for the LED. Did you daisy chain them inside the wall with the leads coming through the shelf support? I watched a few times hoping to see a camera angle that showed how you hid the wires.

    • @Riless42
      @Riless42 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can daisy chain them or run each one back to the transformer. It makes no difference one way or the other. Just if you daisy chain them make sure your wire is rated for the full amperage of all the lights. Your lights will have a watt/foot rating and match your wire to the watts. Wire is in measured in amps. So take the watts of the lights and divide the volts of the lights and it will give you the amps of your lights.

    It would have been nice if you did a close up and more in depth explanation of what you meant with the visuals of your measurements when explaining the 45 degree miter. Like what did you mean by adding 3/4 length or subtracting 3/4 length?

  • @tomaszkaczynski1233
    @tomaszkaczynski1233 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    You shouldn’t have route the channel for LEDs all the way through the shelf. You could have stopped 1/2” before the and and no caps would be needed.😉

  • @Larry_Is_Printing
    @Larry_Is_Printing ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just recently found your channel and I love the builds. I think the power brick on top is fine. Like you said haters will hate. I do think it would have been really cool to do a double light for the top shelf so the top was lit up as well. Maybe a future mod.

    • @terdsie
      @terdsie ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my thought as well. It would take this beautiful job up another level.
      It would kinda mess with the location of the driver, but it would balance out the light in the room.
      I think that, if I were to do it, I would probably run the lights at the front of the shelves, but running the dado at a 45° to the wall so as to Illuminate the front of the trinkets instead of the wall behind the stuff.
      I'm not hating, just mentioning what I would do differently in case anyone else needed ideas.
      These shelves, and this build itself, are awesome.

    I’m not a mathematician but I went all the way through to Trigonometry. I’m not a dumb person! With that said, why on God’s green earth can I NEVER cut/measure miter ends correctly 😢 It doesn’t matter if I triple check, once the cuts are finished there are always a couple that are off and I have a gap. 😩

  • @joshuam.6404
    @joshuam.6404 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there any wisdom to making the miter slightly more aggressive ( like 46 degrees ) so you can get the two ends to meet up with zero gaps?

    If your table saw has a single phase induction motor, get the capacitors checked out. If they are lower in mfd (its only +/- 5% name plate mfd usually) your motor will draw more current under certain loads causing the motor overload to trip. Its a common fault in table saws, compressors etc. better to catch it early than to have your motor burn out
