    Speaking of American POWs, there were also 15K Americans being held in Soviet POW camps. Most of them never came back. Eisenhower didn't make an issue about them because he wanted a 'short, sharp, and quick end to the war.' But sure, let the author criticize Patton for "what a fool he'd been" for his attempt to free American POWs with Task Force Baum.
    Some observers think Patton's unwillingness to let Stalin keep his 15K American POWs may have contributed to the mysterious accident that ended his life.

      @virgiljones4808 Many of them were in POW camps in eastern Germany or other areas 'liberated' by the Soviets. The Soviet economy benefited greatly from prison camps, so the Soviets had an incentive to hold them. Stalin just loved putting people in camps, even his own allies.

      Also, many Americans within Russia itself - - embassy employees, joint venture employees, and random American citizens within Russia itself were sent to prison camps and the US government did little to help them.
