Love their sound. Can feel the 1970s, 1980s Crosby Stills, Eagles era and California in their harmonies, lyrics and guitar work. Love it. Rob, Brisbane, Australia

This video is five years old and I saw and actually heard Dawes for the first time last Friday night (April 8, 2016) in a wonderful, relatively small (IMHO) venue at Cascades Park in Tallahassee, Florida. I came to this area in 1972 (I was 27), got divorced in a relatively short time, and spent the next few years being a single guy who spent a lot of time listening to bands in bars. I was in a band when in the USN, having started playing guitar in '67 in Gitmo & forming the band in '68 on the USS Independence. I say all this in hopes you who read this understand that there are those of us who have never fulfilled a dream that recognize something totally unknowable to those who "just like music".
These guys were/are awesome. Watching this video from 2011 is like seeing Creed when they played in Tallahassee in the local bars. Or Sister Hazel. I've lived in quite a few places, and in different "eras", where music was "hot", including Nashville, TN, Miami, FL, & San Antonio, TX. Tallahassee had a LOT of great local bands in the late 70's/early 80's.
Dawes is not far from becoming one of the best bands in these United States. Mark my words. I am a 70-year-old man. I have heard every type of music you can imagine. Clapton is 9 months older than I, Keith Richards 2 years older, Paul McCartney 3 years older, Don Henley almost two years younger. I watched the bands those guys were in "grow up".
Dawes is there. I quit watching TV (especially cable) in the 80's. I listen to "classic rock" when I listen to the radio. Dawes "broke through" by word of mouth from the sister of a fellow musician friend who said "listen to this". That guy's one of my best friends & about 21 years younger than I, but we recognize good music when we hear it.
If you think this 2011 version is good, find their music circa 2015-2016.

Bill TELLEFSEN I have Austin city limits on auto record anytime it comes on but unless it's Henley or Clapton, Bonnie Raitt etc I usually just can't pull the lyrics out of modern music. Or it is so "perfect" produced to death with fantastic musicians and written to a certain formula etc. My Dad, brother, and I all have played professionally and like you are not casual listeners. For that reason I like the technical side of say jazz or like Dave Mathews progressive rock etc. but there is something about these guys that is so honest , pure and unspoiled that it just touches a nerve I can't even explain. When I caught " a little bit of everything on Austin City Limits I stopped dead in my tracks. I immediately started listening on TH-cam everything I could find. First I came across somewhere along the way then I was completely hooked going to see them I'm in Birmingham in march. I've been back writing songs again as well. They are just inspiring to me.

From Spain, I can say that I agree completely with your words, i think that there's not any other band now with such class and companionship and with songs like Goldsmith makes. Love this band, lots of feelings.

You know guys...I've been loving your band since I found a little video on Daytrotter called "Love is all I Am". I think I've seen nearly everything you've got on the internet, bought everyone of your albums, and I still can't get enough! The only one I wasn't able to get is "Stripped Down at Grimeys" Can anyone help me find this one? Thank You Talor, Griffin, Wylie, & Tay for all the thoughtful words and beautiful sounds. JKL
