    Thank you Roman, love your work. The XT5 is my first fujifilm camera and I'm absolutely in love with it. I combined it with the 35f2 and the 56f1.2wr and I've never felt so encouraged to go out and shoot.

      I’m in the same boat as you, I hike quite often and I thought I’d get something a bit nicer than an iPhone camera. Grabbed the XT5 earlier this year for my first camera and paired it with a 35mm f2 lens, having the camera has got me out of the house more often. Ive always had hobbies but nothing has got me as involved as photography with Fuji has.

      A "bit" nicer is an understatement lmao! XT-30ii or an XS-20 would be a bit nicer, XT-5 is a huge step up@@Aithis.

    i love the fact that you are promoting travel and making memories over spending money on a camera. couldnt agree more. we took an old panasonic lumix away on holiday and although it was only 12mp we took some great photos and had some amazing experiences to remember.

    Thank you, Roman, for a thoughtful review. It is representative of the real experience. I have used this camera for 6 months as my first Fuji camera, but I'm not doing photography for life and bought it because we live once.
    Here are some things I've found out:
    1. This camera is more comfortable to use with an external grip on. Get a Chinese one. Your hand will be grateful.
    2. Use auto iso. High iso won't spoil your pictures, especially if there's some decent light.
    3. The best glass on Fuji is bulky. I was so impressed by lens like 90 f2, 33 f1.4, 16-55 f2.8, but all these lenses are heavier than you would want them to be. However f2 compact lenses also give some good iq, but they won't let this camera's full potential shine. Getting all the glass used is a nice way to enjoy spending less on it.
    4. The latest update did improve subject tracking REALLY well! I have tested it on horses, runners and fighting kids and it works like a different camera.
    5. I have faced with an issue just once, when shooting fast subjects on this camera in burst mode, the evf would start to get crazy and show artifacts. It happened just once during a hot day.
    6. Cropping on this camera is a big thing, as well as IBIS! Shooting low shutter speeds is possible on this camera handheld.

  • @just_eirik
    @just_eirik ปีที่แล้ว +96

    Personally I switched from X-T3 to X-T5 because I wanted IBIS but I didn’t want the screen on the X-T4. The IBIS is major imo. Let’s me use lenses in low light that I never would before.

    • @shred3005
      @shred3005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree on the IBIS. Once you’ve had it in a camera you feel cheated using another camera without. I run both Pentax & Fuji systems and Pentax have had IBIS in every model they have released for the last 15 yrs. Even the cheapest entry level models. Almost all are weather sealed as well. Feels like Fuji is cheating out by not having it in still quite expensive cameras like the X-E4 (which I own and the buttons and body also feels cheap) - I only use it when I need light and shall camera otherwise it’s missing too much

    Thank you. It’s truly unfortunate that Fuji has taken steps back in build quality with the X-T line… and I’m a huge fan of Fuji. I would say there has been a consistent decline in quality since the X-T2. I personally use the X-H2S and love the build quality and superior AF. Thank you for being honest on these issues while other reviewers gloss over them or don’t mention them as issues at all.

    The ability to crop is actually a gamechanger financially, because you can save a ton of money on lenses. I'm thinking having a 50mm and 35mm in just one lens basically, or high zoom ranges. I never thought about that, but it might justify the extra cost compared to a cheaper 24-26mp APSC camera.

    I love mine but ordered a cage for my larger hands and to try and avoid inadvertently turning the top three dials by handling. Turn a dial, get a setting you do not want and find it in your image if you did not know your handling did it.
    I love the camera

  • @kevindiossi
    @kevindiossi ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As a photography camera, I can't find too much to complain about with the X-T5. I've been very happy with mine, coming from the X-T4. I actually may have to disagree with you about the dials on the X-T5 feeling cheaper. I thought so at first, but now that I've had the camera for about 6 months, I can't stand the dials on my X-T4. But the exposure compensation dial on the X-T4 is significantly better. For video work behind the camera, I still think Fuji autofocus and IBIS have a bit of a way to go in order to work better. That said, I've considered selling my X-T4 for another X-T5 or the new X-H2S...we'll see. The X-T5 is a real winner and it was great to see Fuji concede that they made a mistake with the design layout and went back to the X-T roots.

    Thanks for the video Roman. Your videos are inspiring and informative. After watching various videos of yours, I got Fujifilm XE4 with 27mm kit lens and 16-55 mm f2.8 lens. Really loving the setup and practising composition.
    I thought of getting an affordable body and invested some money in the lens (16-55). Will surely look forward to xt5 or so in future once I reach some level.

      Recently took my X-T4 & my X-E4 to Paris & Barcelona & cities in between. For walk about street shooting , which I'm not 100 % comfortable at, I probably used my X-E4 80% of the time with my newly acquired 18-135 Fuji lens.

      @@wilfs1196 I was concerned as to how heavy the lens is going to be as compared to the camera to make things make uncomfortable enough. But it took really no time to get used to it. I guess getting XE4 instead of XT5 was a great decision on my part.

    I agree with your review about the build quality of the X-T5 Roman. It's nowhere close to the quality of the X-Pro cameras, or the earlier X-T's, particularly when it comes to the coating. As an example, check out the coating on an X-100V in black. It's another level up from the X-T5. I do like the 40mp sensor, the great dials and the IBIS, but for what Fuji is charging for this body, it's a step backwards. Rumors are out that Fuji is bringing out 3-4 new cameras in 2024....we'll see if they are listening to their audience. I think most of us would pay a little more for better quality. Cheers!

  • @juliette-mansour
    @juliette-mansour ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Roman, I appreciate this video. I hav the XH2S for my event work but for street and personal, I prefer smaller cameras so until Fuji shrinks the body like my x-t30ii size, I'll just stick to the tiny disadvantages of this smaller version! Cheers!

    Shooting JPEGs in AUTO ISO has been completely ruined for me, by the fact that they now store almost all of the settings in the CUSTOM SETTINGS. Whenever I change between different recipes as you described in your video, that AUTO ISO mode now changes as well. This feels so unintuitive and makes me not want to use the camera as I always have to be hyper aware of what setting I'm currently in or settle on only using 1 preset. Coming from an X100V, this really surprised me.

    • @randyk1919
      @randyk1919 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've mostly gotten used to the change, myself, but to your point I'd certainly love the ability to remove some specific functions (such as Auto ISO) from the custom settings *entirely* and instead designate those as "global".

  • @CarstenStoney
    @CarstenStoney ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you! I really enjoy your channel and videos. I've recently re-started my photography hobby and splurged on an XT5, thinking the extra MP would be useful - especially for cropping. A couple of other things stood out from this video. 1) What settings do you have on your Custom 1 Setting? 2) How do you decide whether to use your XH2S or XT5 for shoots? 3) You finished talking about upgrading to an XT5, but I'd like to know your thoughts on which Fuji camera you'd recommend as a second body to the XT5. I'm a photography enthusiast, mainly behind the camera, but considering more content creation, and would share the camera with my kids (small hands) who are interested in photography (just to name some considerations). Thank you and keep sharing your thoughts on experiences with us please.

    as I've said before, I love the pictures you manage to take spontaneously. I would appreciate your help with 2 problems that are really bothering me with the XT-5 camera. Perhaps from your in-depth knowledge of Fuji's system you will be able to assist me. 1. When I activate the DR auto function, the shutter speed indication disappears on the screen. I don't understand why the camera does this. 2. When the camera is set to auto iso, the screen has the maximum iso sensitivity, but during photography, when focus and exposure are locked, it does not change. How am I supposed to know at which iso the camera is going to take the picture?! Please help my friend. Thank you !

    tidy review and very fair
    have to disagree on the build quality though. I've got a silver one and have zero scratches happened despite heavy use. also there's no play in my screen and the dials are very tight. so tight in fact that when adjusting ISO I've found the drive mode collar has been changed. hopefully this will clear up with use, but as my photography mainly sees me at 125 or auto (1 click) and I rarely change ISO beyond that then maybe not. maybe your's is a one-off or maybe I'm the lucky one?
    the extra resolution I really enjoy as like you I tend to crop (especially when birding).

I'm still using my X-T3 and working on getting more shutter time and learning to be a better photographer. When you were shooting video with the X-T3 did you manage stability with lens OIS alone? I don't ever recall seeing you use a gimbal. Or, were you primarily shooting your POV with a GoPro and inserting some B roll from the X-T3 back then? As a owner of the XT5 and the XT4, the XT5 definitely has better auto focus after the update, 2.0. Hopefully the XT4 will get an update on the auto focus algorithm also.
    I love the new back screen on the XT5, but the XT4 to me has a better grip as my hands are larger.
    Also, the 56 1.2 older version has finally come off my shelf after a number of years now that the XT5 update is out.

    Fuji fans and Roman! I'm curious on everyone's thoughts on the x-s20 vs the x-t30ii. As someone who doesn't do photography for a living and just wants a light travel camera, I wonder if the ibis and new processor make the x-s20 worth getting over something like an x-t30. I enjoy the x-t30s size and form but I wonder if the new AF trumps buying an older camera. The problem for me is that the price point of the x-s20 is so close the xt5 that part of me wonders if its worth it. Sorry for asking such a broad question on an xt5 review, but I've been trapped in a wonderful Fuji rabbit hole for days now and I would love answers from the community.

    • @snapsbyfox

      my 2 cents…. if its just for photos and nothing else, them the XT-30 will be great especially for the price you can get them for now. If you’re considering the XS-20 then may I suggest getting a used XT4 instead

    • @traceybartlam7737

      I’m considering trading my x-t4 for the x-s20! I like the idea of the better autofocus, smaller and lighter camera and newer sensor but wouldn’t want and x-t5 as the files are so large and have no need for 40mp (other than cropping). I have an x-t30 which I love but the grip is very small so I’d prefer the grip and consequently better larger battery on the x-s20 if I were out all day. I could in theory trade both but can’t bring myself to let the x-t30 go ! Both of my current cameras were bought used and it’s a great way to save a few £ so always worth looking at used in whatever you decide. I fancy trying video but am clueless but the x-s20 videos have inspired me to have a go. I do like the general layout and features of it in such a small body. Whatever you choose - enjoy

      @@snapsbyfox Hey so just an update. I ended up getting a lightly used XT4 for $1k that came with a cage, shutter button, and thumb grip! Build quality issues are similar on the Xh2. The paint job is not good it will chip easily. I never had paint chipping on my xt3. That being said the image quality on both new bodies is significantly better in many ways (dynamic range, color depth, resolution) so it is mostly positive.

    A shame to hear about the decline in build quality. I have an XT-20 and an XT-3 and you can tell the difference in between even those two, the XT-3 feeling cheaper than the XT-20, noticeable immediately from the shutter button and dials alone. It shouldnt be the case that one has to spend 5k on a Leica in order not to have a camera that feels like a toy...

  • @AeSkone
    @AeSkone ปีที่แล้ว

    I just can totally agree with the build quality, its the worst of all Fuji cameras I own(X-T2, X-H1).
    It makes constantly noises and the coating is just the worse ever, but I also agree its like for you not my biggest issue.
    But for the money, well its really bad.
    With the image quality I am not that happy, I was in Japan a month before and have comparison with someone who shot with a Z6, so less MP and way older, in addition lets say we compare the 50 1.8 for Nikon and the XF33MM 1.4 for Fuji, well what can I say? There are worlds in the image quality, even so both lenses are similar expensive and even so the Z6 is way older, low light quality is worse with the Fuji, IBIS is a little worse not much.
    You can just see a major difference in similar pictures with similar focal length.
    Plus the EVF is very bad for manual focus, its so soft when it punches in, I really don’t use manual focus anymore, even so I loved to do so and the AF, is still hunting a lot, sadly.
    It is still just not a good AF system.
    But, the big but, that doesnt all mean that this camera can produces lovely images, that everything can work together and so on.
    But it definitely isn’t Fujis most refined camera of the X-T line and I usually upgrade maybe all 4-5 years, but if the X-T6 can improve a lot, well its almost a no brainer.
    The X-T5 is what I wanted even so I thought it would be a lot better as my X-H1 and my X-T2 but honestly, its just a little in everything, it wasn’t that groundbreaking to upgrade.
    But its definitely not the best camera out there.
