As a trans man with a background in voice, I made sure to continue vocal training through testosterone therapy. The first song I performed with my voice teacher, a few months after starting T, was "Proud of Your Boy." Honestly, I kind of made myself cry- and my mom cried, too.
Good video, but I’m gonna disagree slightly with your assessment of “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”. To me it’s an interesting example because its purpose as an “I Want” song is to lay out everything the protagonist thinks he wants but urgently needs to grow out of. It’s fun and light-hearted, but it also tells us what a fundamentally childish and naïve attitude young Simba has to the notion of kingship (not altogether dissimilar to the one Scar later applies), something he’s clearly moved away from by the end in seeing it more as a matter of responsibility to his kingdom. Also, I suspect that Simba doesn’t fully appreciate the ramifications of his father passing on at the time he sings it - given that he later asks Mufasa if he'll always be with him. 😿
I feel like I Just Can't Wait To Be King is actually the worst of the songs from the original Lion King. That's nothing against it, just that every song in Lion King is good. Circle of Life. Hakuna Matata. Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Be Prepared. There is not a single miss.
I think you missed out Mulan. Reflection would definitely fit the bill of an i wabt song and arguably be a man could be argued as a corporate i want song
I would say Repunzel I want song is I’ve got a dream as Repunzel says she wants to see the magic lanterns glem . I know it’s an ensemble number but it’s definitely an I want song for the movie .
I guess that could be contentious but I would personally say an I Want song, traditionally, should really be sung by the protagonist. I think 'When Will My Life Begin' sets up the same thing as her verse in 'Dream' even if it's less specific than that song. But for a bit of fun, If I were to rank 'I've Got a Dream' it would go fairly low into decent - likely just above Alice in Wonderland.
It's not a tier list but this disney video came from me discussing the best musical I want songs, here's that video: th-cam.com/video/sCy_JQk36cI/w-d-xo.html
im here to say that you should watch julie the musical :) it will be on in june in the other palace!! i watched a production of it last year and it was AMAZING
As someone who has been bullied God Help The Outcasts is the most relatable song from Hunchback Of Norte Dame and I’d put it in iconic tier.
