    Today, we're in Adobe Animate taking a look at rigging a basic character using the bone tool. We apply proportional speed to our character's limbs and limit or constrain their movement based on more realistic limits (like your elbow only bending one way!) Let's do it!

I love how you explain all the stuff that I'm like "wait but why doesn't it do this for me" and in the same second you say "maybe for you it might not work because you have to turn this on" and that's incredibly helpful. @@TipTut I'm having the worst time with rigging everything on the head. Well, what I really mean is that if I nest all the parts for the head in a graphic symbol, then I can't animate eyes and mouth on the main timeline.
      I guess that is just the way it works in Adobe Animate? Sorry, I used different software before so I'm just getting used to A.A. I'm think about using that basic parenting for this particular project. hmmmm. Anyways, if you don't happen to reply, please know that I've appreciated many of your tutorials. 👍🏼

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Set the head symbol to 'play once'. The first frame in the head symbol will start at the first keyframe that the symbol is on in the main timeline. If you've got animation already that you want to keep. Highlight the frames in the main timeline and right click, Synchronise Symbols.
      You'll learn to love nested timelines. Trust me.

      You can export your character as an asset by going to File -> Export -> Export Scene as Asset. Once there, you can then export and save. Then you can open up any new animation file and you should be able to see it in your asset tab.

    Hi, nice and comprehensive tutorial! The bone tool worked so smoothly for you...
    I had a huge several hours fight with it: somehow the body parts moved around and changed and sometimes randomly disappeared on some frames. All of them were symbols. I created a tween and tried to edit key frames there and it would not work smoothly and the anchor points would change it's location... then I tried to publish it/view and animate just crashed (around 10 sec of animation, all vector parts apart background picture)... So I gave up and decided to take a little brake... for now :D
    I wonder if bone tool is somehow undeveloped or it's me who he is struggling/doing something wrong...
    Rigging with layers felt like a walk in the park comparing to this.
    p.s. I was working in html5 canvas (so I can export is for html) and there is no parenting option available there. :/

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different options for AS and HTML5 due to limitations of the publishing format. The bone tool is a little cumbersome, but I've not experienced the issues you're showing, sorry!

    I realized that layer parenting is much better than the messy half baked armature tool. Though bone has IK, you can do the same in FK with layer parenting. Bone armature puts all symbols in one layer making it difficult to revisit key frames of individual symbols. Moreover, the translate constrain is kinda broken.

    So pre-rigging is the first part of the video right? Divide and point the joins

    My character is not incredibly complex but I want them to also turn around and show them from different angles ... would you still recommend using the bone tool and just make lots of different symbols and layers for each side or would you recommend to draw it by hand?

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both ways are great options, you can use frame picker to show the different angles

    first of all thank you soo much for your lovely videos I have been learned soo much from you, but I have a question about this video , I want to start making my own character but how did you creat the null object , and I would love if you can show the SMR tool

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The null object is just a normal symbol :)

    you should make how to save a rig, I've heard that there was a new update that you can just drag and drop a pre-made rig to the graphics and all you need to do is to keyframe the movements. I think it saves a lot of time especially for those templated projects

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You literally drag a rig into the assets panel itll be a short tutorial haha

      @@TipTutyow, first of all, you may not know me I'm your random youtube student and thank you for making such great tutorials it helps me a lot to be educated with adobe an.
      now to respond to your reply which is very accomodating of you, I can't, I try dragging it but nothing is happening I think the problem here is the software itself

    Great, Thanks. One question, Would you use the constraint tool to attach the ayes and the mouths to the head so they move along with it? Because I tried to do that once since no tutorial about bones in adobe talked about the rest of the symbols, just like them, but I couldn't because the bones in CS6 didn't allow me to see where I was pinning the bones, since they are bigger than those ones you got there.

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd put them inside the head symbol

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Then use frame picker to move between preset poses for the face.

    • @ElRubioAnimation

    I'm trying to learn bone rigging for game development since my artist skills is shit, I'd like to make my own character ( a basic stick figure) to figure this out but I dont understand how you move the anchors. Also wheres the bone tool and what is this symbol mechanic and how you make a vector shape a symbol? Could you do a complete tutorial in one video so I don't have to watch a whole series...drawing a simple 2 minute snake for instance and rigging it up with simple animation.
    Edit: Nvm I just realised I'm using illustrator...like I said this arts is new to me lol ik only programming

    Hello, thank you very much for the video!
    I have a problem, I can't move the central bone, which belongs to the center of the body, therefore I can't make my character jump or crouch. Do you know why? Thank you!!

    I’ve noticed that when you turn off joint rotation for the arm, you can no longer rotate the torso. Is there a way to turn off joint rotation for the arm socket, but still be able to rotate the torso?
    Actually, literally 5 seconds after writing this comment, I realized that to fix the problem, you can constrain the rotation for the torso. This solves the problem, however, I feel that you shouldn’t have to constrain that join to make this work.

      It's a constant process of tweaking, so you can revise and add colour and additional detail as you go.

    hey I just want to know if you made the character's joints in one symbol, then made the separate joints in separate symbols, because I can see two layers when you first started it

    • @TipTut
      @TipTut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each joint has its own symbol.
