  • Many Progressive Christians love to cite how Jesus never said anything about homosexual behavior. In this video, Mr. B offers five reasons why this isn't a good argument.

As an atheist, i can agree with most of what Jesus said. From the little i've read, anyways. He adresses sodomy, which is NOT what it is considered today. One of the things was "do not stigmatize strangers". And also you're commenting on a video with a guy who clearly has studied the Bible. Why do religious people get defensive about everything when discussing religion - is a more accurate question, but still i wouldn't be cool to include EVERY religious person.

Also, not every word that Jesus spoke is recorded in the Scriptures, so this is an argument from silence with an assertion that Jesus never spoke about it. He didn't need to speak about it, because it was clear. Jesus did speak about marriage and referenced Genesis where it was established only between a man and a woman.

The apostle Paul addressed people like the "pastor" when he said to Timothy "in the last days there will be scoffers" and when he also said "everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial" - that is to say that just because you can doesn't mean you should. Ha yeah, I did a double-take on that. We know He's *never*-changing because He told us so. Like, a lot of times, both in the old and new testaments. Even if He didn't it would not be logical. If He improved for the better, that implies that previously He was not perfect, because you cannot improve something already perfect. If He changed for the worse, then He was *also* previously not perfect, because changing for the worse would be an imperfection already present.
Also, did we change our minds first about the topic, or God? I can't think of any better dictionary example of arrogance than believing God exists, and saying, "Yeah God exists, that guy. Yeah, I'm better than Him." God would not really be much of a god after all if that were true.

Amen. You're absolutely correct. Jesus was silent, but not agreeing with homosexuality.
Jesus, a central historical figure, significantly influenced morality and societal norms through his teachings, which are deeply interconnected with the entire biblical narrative. His adherence to Old Testament moral codes, including views on homosexuality as outlined in these texts, is pivotal. Although Jesus did not explicitly address homosexuality, his silence on the subject is indicative of his agreement with established moral codes, including those in the Old Testament. This silence, given his affirmation of the Old Testament, is as meaningful as his spoken words.
Jesus's validation of the Old Testament, especially his direct reference to Genesis' account of marriage being between a man and a woman, underscores his support for traditional marriage. The absence of any scriptural reference to unions other than male-female marriages in both the Old and New Testaments further cements this understanding.
Moreover, Jesus's role in validating and endorsing figures like Peter, who in turn recognized Paul's writings, adds credibility to the New Testament teachings. This interconnectedness highlights the consistency and continuity of biblical teachings on moral issues, including homosexuality.
Importantly, Jesus’s teachings cannot be isolated from the broader context of the Bible. Attempts to do so, especially to reinterpret his stance on issues like homosexuality, are seen as misinterpretations and contrary to the overall biblical teachings. His commissioning of disciples like Peter to extend his teachings to diverse audiences, including Gentiles, through figures like Paul, demonstrates the universality and unchanging nature of these moral principles.

A high view of scripture means holding to biblical inerrancy. You clearly don't have a high view of scripture.
Second, the OT law is divided into ceremonial, civil, and moral law. The ceremonial law was fulfilled by Christ's sacrifice (see Matthew 5), so it has passed away. Jesus also declares all food clean to Peter. The civil laws, including prescribed punishments for crimes like adultery, applied to the nation of Israel at the time, so those also do not apply today because we are not the nation of Israel. It's like trying to enforce American laws in Canada. The moral laws still apply, especially when repeated in the NT multiple times. In the context of the passage that condemns homosexual relationships in Leviticus, there are also condemnations of beastiality and incest, so clearly it is laying out a sexual ethic. Paul repeatedly condemns the practice of same sex relations, such as in Romans 1.
If you really went to seminary, I weep for the state of pastoral education in this country, because this is incredibly basic OT literacy and has been the position of every Christian organization since the death of Christ up until the last 30-40 years. Why does our culture have it right vs 2000 years of church history?

This is the mindset when you focus on no correction in the church. Even though the apostles corrected. When you create Church to be a hang out and not a gathering of believers, when you focus on Praise and Worship and prayer more than the Word of God. And when you become so emotionally drivin in the Church. A prayer can be emotionally driven along with so-called "prophetic" words but have absolutely no value in the Kingdom of Heaven. This is why the younger generation is looking for that spiritual high to feel good in Church Worship and prayer. But when the things of this world come their way, they are torn down. They have no Word in them, only music and prayer. The Word of God is First and Foremost. Everything else such as prayer and worship is essential but when preaching in Church involves a 15 minute bible lesson for young adults and adults that does not build them up when they dont spend more than 30 minutes in the bible during the week.

The bigger issue that the priest said wasn’t even the same sex marriage comment (not saying that isn’t an issue) it was when he said Go can change His mind… if you believe a God that isn’t consistent, that is changing, then you believe in a politician, not a true God. Thank you God, for always staying true to Your promise that You have kept since the beginning of time.

What about "God is everlasting and ever changing" ?? Sounds more like "I want to be able to dictate what God thinks to make sure I'm on his side".
So many wrong things condensed in a few sentences. How to address that if you hear someone doing that ?
Great work, thanks a lot and God bless you.

They guy said “God can grow and evolve.”
My first thought was, “Toward *what*?”
You and I can grow because we’re imperfect. We’re ignorant so we can grow in knowledge, we’re sinners so we can grow in moral behavior, etc.
God is not only perfect but the very standard toward which we are growing. If God is the standard then he can’t grow toward the standard.

But they conveniently leave out all the other places it says it’s wrong.

I'm glad you mentioned polygamy, because too many get wrapped up in the stories of Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and others having multiple wives that they begin to think God condones polygyny specifically or at least allows it. The fact is that it is a pollution to the gospel of the latter days and is in fact synonymous with adultery. And remember, a well-known American martyr was not actually a polygamist nor did he preach that it was a holy practice of God's people, but quite the opposite when his life and words are closely analyzed.

The “ever changing” thing is a really awful way to think about God. He is and always has been perfect, so he’s never needed to change. And saying that God can and has changed his view on homosexuality also implies that modern, secular, liberal culture is more correct about the subject than God was in the Old Testament, which is the epitome of pride.
