There are so many memories I have for this song. 40 years ago, rocking my 1st little baby girl to sleep. Night after night, playing this one track over and over and 'dancing' her to sleep. The biggest trick was getting close enough to the turntable to 'reset' to the beginning of this song just as it ended ("manual looping") -- being the 2nd track on Side 2 made that a one-handed challenge -- I got pretty good at nailing that start-of-track groove without waking her too much. :-)
Jeff Lynn writes wonderful lyrics and ELO is a one of a kind group...it has great music written with lyrics that speak to you...my husband of 54 years died last year and I would play every album for him to listen to on the disks I recorded...I come here often to listen as I write and I always dance as we did together as he sang this song to me..it helps me to feel close to him...time moves forward but for me I will stay here until I can see him and dance with him once again...54 years was to short in a life time.
Hola.
In 1979 I was 15 yrs old. My dad heard this and instantly fell in love with it!! He became an ELO fan. My own kids love this band also. Timeless and excellent.
Definitely timeless. I’m 22 and my dad raised me on ELO and I still listen to them regularly. I can never grow tired of them. It’s one of the bands that will always hold a special place in my heart.
From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas and Stadiums. I saw them in the Summer of 2019 on the US and Canada Tour...( Best Concert of my life) All the reviews agree they are the best live act in the world and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius. They are in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Song Writer award ( ASCAP ) 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Long live Jeff Lynne’s ELO! Please Tour in 2022!
I grew up with the music of the 70s and 80s. My family was very poor, so I couldn't afford to buy much music on vinyl, 8-track, or cassette tape. I listened to a lot of top 40 radio and thank goodness for my friends who had the albums of ELO, Boston, Pink Floyd, Kenny Rogers, The Jackson Five, Van Halen, Meat Loaf, Crystal Gayle, Grand Funk, Steve Miller, Abba, Black Sabbath, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney/Wings, and the list goes on and on. Songs from A New World Record, Out of the Blue, and Discovery are the ones I remember the most. The music of Jeff Lynne and ELO is indelible in my heart and mind.

Jeff is a modern day Mozart, Bach and Beethoven. The melodic quality is without par. Tom Scholz as well. Their use of all instruments produces some of the most beautiful music ever made. I'm so thankful to have grown up with their masterpieces!
philip tucci hi Phil. Have you listened to Roy Orbison in the extended version of "A Love So Beautiful?" Jeff wrote that, too, among others. Trust me! I have never lied to you before.

Hello. "Midnight blue", a precious and immortal song, recorded at Musicland Studios (Munich, Germany), owned by the Italian musician and producer Giorgio Moroder. You can see the influence of Beethoven, Bach, Wagner and Johann Strauss, in addition to that rich mix of styles, ranging from the doo wop of The Platters and The Chordettes, for example, through the sound and heritage of The Beatles, until the disco style, represented by Barry White, Van McCoy, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer (who also recorded in the same studios, like Queen, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and many other greats) and others.
There is a touch of Viennese waltz as a whole (The theme itself is a waltz, but with a slower rhythm), an iota of bolero, as well as blues, swing and the aforementioned doo wop (The influence of African music it's undeniable - I think.) All a bitterness that makes this beautiful ballad, an ethereal song and without equal. In its part of strings and choral arrangements, Jeff Lynne, its composer and main voice, Richard Tandy, keyboardist of E.L.O. and Louis Clark ( R.I.P. .), who conducted the orchestra. Kelly Groucutt ( R.I.P. ), bassist for E.L.O. , was his second voice and part of the choirs, too. Among many other details, it is worth mentioning that this song used the synthesizer, recently launched on the market at that time, the Yamaha CS-80, the same one with which he created immortal melodies, the Greek musician Vangelis; and sound engineer Reinhold Mack (who was very close, in his work, to Queen), used Sennheiser microphones, placed at different distances, in order to create a magnificent surround sound environment, similar to that of the interior of a cathedral. This is very evident, in two other ballads present in the album "Discovery" (1979), to which this song belongs, "Need her love" (With a strong Gregorian chant glaze) and "Confusion" (With a marked accent in Richard Wagner's choral work.) Lyrically speaking, in one of its parts, there is a reference to a verse from the play "Romeo and Juliet" (William Shakespeare): It says "... But what's the difference cos' they say what's in a name ..." ( "... But, how much do they look at what is in a surname ...") It is intuited that the song refers to the furtive encounter between two lovers, at the stroke of midnight, in a desolate place, which must end before dawn, so as not to be discovered by those close to them. This song was not made as a single, on either side of the Atlantic, but in Australia. Thanks for uploading the video. A hug. Greetings from Chile, South America.
There are so many ELO songs I don't initially like, but then I get pulled in by the hypnotic melody and grow to love it to the point I cant get enough of it.
Within 3 months, I'll hit 60. ELO remain my No1 group. Loved them ever since the mid '70's. They bring back so many good, great and also sad memories. Jeff is Mr. Blue Sky and long may he sing ;-))...

ELO really made a real effort to make albums with no filler tracks. I can only think of the story of the Beatles for comparison. Believe me (now), I have listened to every track by the ELO, and nowadays I study them like someone would study famous paintings… I wanna learn from them. AND yes, there is no longer music like this.
This was played at my late brother in laws send off, as the we entered the church, I’d never heard the song before. Each time I hear this song, I’m back in that church. Ray was only 58, died of a heart attack 2018 RIP RAY 🙏🙏
I'm 21 years old atm and I really love this song very much. I learned it from my parents as they love old songs. One day I want to have a slow dance with my partner to be (hopefully) while this song plays. I'll Be back🙋🙋

I’m 47. When I feel the heavyweight of my life, this “midnight blue” sends me back to the past when i needed to put a cassette tape into the player to listen my favorite songs and pushed “rewind” button several times to listen that song again.
The only way to feel my late father's presence is through this wonderful song. He died in a car accident and everytime I listen to thing song I can't help but cry. He died when I was 4 yrs old and now I'm 46.
A simple melody can make the best sounding songs - easy to sing , easy to remember..... I just can't get used to this century's pop songs. Only few are acceptable. But ELO and others from my childhood - I can enjoy anytime!!!Thanks ELO.
Despite this sounding like a simple tune, its infinitely more complicated than anything in the UK top 40 now. We just dont notice its complexity that easily because its such a bloody good song.
@@VoxelMusic That's so true and sums up Jeff Lynne's songwriting genius in a nutshell. Can't get it out of my head, Telephone Line, Confusion and of course Mr Blue Sky ("posh chords and simple lyrics" in Jeff's own words) are just a few examples, there are many more.
So many memories so many rainy days back in London Town. Bedsit, the beautiful smell of baking quiche Lorraine. Falling leaves, minis and red double deckers, my friends and I.Thank you ELO for being with me all the way!

Simplemente maravilloso e inigualable, gracias elo!
My 2nd husband played this song on our first date, unfortunately we divorced 7 yrs later but he gave me 2 beautiful daughters ❤❤. Memories happy and sad but I thank him for this 😊😊😊
I never noticed how dopamine releasing the guitar during the chorus is, perticulaly after the line "loving you". Just makes me love this song even more.
The Brits actually just took Black music....because they loved it.....then we paid attention to it because there was a white person doing it.....and we started to do it ourselves. I'm not normally a preachy type on racism because it's not systemic anymore....but we certainly did that shit back in the day. We had wonderful music in our own back yards and were to "ate up with the dumbass" to realize it.

Very sorry for your loss Connie, hopefully time will lessen some of the raw painful feelings. Music is healing, esp. Mr J. Lynne's !
I’m sure that every time you dance Connie, your husband is dancing with you. So keep on dancing.🌹🌹🌹
I had tear in my eyes when I finished reading your comment.

Hey I am 15 right now I love ELO, what an exceptionally fabulous band!
May I ask how old your father was?
Definitely timeless. I’m 22 and my dad raised me on ELO and I still listen to them regularly. I can never grow tired of them. It’s one of the bands that will always hold a special place in my heart.

Is is spectacular!
He just sold out Madison Square Garden. September 16. Hats off to u Jeff. A tune master..
He is on tour now! Please play Midnight Blue

What a beautiful song...... Thanks Jeff!
I see the lonely road
that leads so far away
I see the distant lights that
left behind the day
But what I see is so much
more than I can say
And I see you in midnight blue
I see you crying Now
you've found a lot of pain
And what you're searching for
can never be the same
But what's the difference
Cos they say What's in a name
And I see you in midnight blue
I will love you tonight
And I will stay by your side
loving you
I'm feeling midnight blue
I see you standing there
far out along the way
I want to touch you
But the night becomes the day
I count the words
that I am never gonna say
And I see you in midnight blue
I will love you tonight
And I will stay by your side
loving you
I'm feeling midnight blue
Can't you feel the love
that I'm offering you
Can't you see
how it's meant to be
Can't you hear the words
that I'm saying to you
Can't you believe like I believe
It's only one and one it's true
Still I see you in midnight blue
I see beautiful days
And I feel beautiful ways of
loving you
Everything's midnight blue
I will love you tonight
And I will stay by your side
loving you
I'm feeling midnight blue
I will love you tonight
And I will stay by your side

I will be on October 71 yrs but still love listening Elo all the times
There is a touch of Viennese waltz as a whole (The theme itself is a waltz, but with a slower rhythm), an iota of bolero, as well as blues, swing and the aforementioned doo wop (The influence of African music it's undeniable - I think.)
All a bitterness that makes this beautiful ballad, an ethereal song and without equal.
This is very evident, in two other ballads present in the album "Discovery" (1979), to which this song belongs, "Need her love" (With a strong Gregorian chant glaze) and "Confusion" (With a marked accent in Richard Wagner's choral work.)
Lyrically speaking, in one of its parts, there is a reference to a verse from the play "Romeo and Juliet" (William Shakespeare): It says "... But what's the difference cos' they say what's in a name ..." ( "... But, how much do they look at what is in a surname ...")
It is intuited that the song refers to the furtive encounter between two lovers, at the stroke of midnight, in a desolate place, which must end before dawn, so as not to be discovered by those close to them.
This song was not made as a single, on either side of the Atlantic, but in Australia.
Thanks for uploading the video.
A hug.

Truly a golden age.

Maravillo Llega Al Alma No Hace Falta Entender Su Idioma!!!!
Im 58yrs old i grew up on ELO ,even took violin lessons for yrs in school my favorite rock group still ELO you won't believe my second favorite AC/DC
My favourite song by ELO. It always makes me happy when I feel sad. 💞
I never noticed how dopamine releasing the guitar during the chorus is, perticulaly after the line "loving you".
Just makes me love this song even more.
The Brits have given the world some wonderful music
So have every artist in this world.......I 🌹🙏🌹
The Brits actually just took Black music....because they loved it.....then we paid attention to it because there was a white person doing it.....and we started to do it ourselves. I'm not normally a preachy type on racism because it's not systemic anymore....but we certainly did that shit back in the day. We had wonderful music in our own back yards and were to "ate up with the dumbass" to realize it.
This came straight out of Jeff’s head. It has Jeff Lynne written all over it, as all his music does.
Grace Barzyz I’m afraid I have to disagree
@@Keelyfae I respect that. We can agree 2 disagree. But let me say this....if the so called UK was such a GREAT BRITAIN......WHY DID THEY ALL COME HERE TO COLLECT OUR AMERICAN DOLLARS. ALL THE FOREIGNERS...
OK.
When my people stepped off the boat from Italy....their were extremely strict laws in place for protection from disease.....anything someone could be bringing in from another land. Think a minute......who are all the doctors affiliated with Big Pharma? FOREIGN
The ultimate goal 4 all outsiders in My Country is the invasion 4 POWER.
