Twilight is pretty great as far as half-broke-english love ballads go, but the way the synth is worked in and the parts where they're just blasting with as much emotion as humanly possible just push it to this elecrifying new level that ya can't exactly get from your 'Bran New Love Songs.' And then Blues Drive Monster is just straight up electrifying to the point where it Rivals 'Twilight' from Daicon IV.

Missrena1000 like with how things would pop out a characters head. The first time something came out his head, it was supposed to represent his first erection. Same with the male lead in Progressive. When something comes out his head, it’s usually in a situation where he’s most likely aroused. With the main character, every time it seems like something is about to come out of her head, the headphones try to keep it it. That probably means the headphones represent a chastity belt.
Ep 5 kicked me in the feels, especially that little bait and switch at the end. I hate seeing friends emotionally split like that, especially younger girls, call me biased. It just eats away at them worse than guys. I need a hug. I flipping love this anime.

Your 20s are for you to be lost and figure out more about yourself (your desires, your goals, you wants, etc.). Just because you know what you want to do at 17 doesn't meant that you won't be confused as you get older. I'm 26 and, while I have a Masters degree in something I really like and I have a job...and I'm still lost because I'm trying to figure out more things, things that aren't superficial. Life is all about being lost and wandering and figuring out who you are in the process. So don't worry about it. You got time. 👍🏽

Got to watch the world premier of the first episode and I gotta say, MUCH better than season 2. Still doesn't seem as good as the original but it was still very enjoyable. I look forward to this season!
There's something about this and what I remember from the april fools episode 1 air date that makes me think this was the original intent of a sequal but they decided to squeeze in Progressive out of either desire to just experiment or an exec trying to get more product to sell with a lower budget. Not saying I didnt enjoy season 2, while I had my gripes as a form of entertainment, I very much enjoyed it and excitedly await the air of this one!
OMG!!!. If this is a FLCL before the first FLCL. "aka the season 1" giving MAMIMI a backstory. That would be so juicy, Putting everything together !!! think ABUUUUT IT.
Someone needs to really explain what was wrong with Progressive. I thought it was great and honestly I like it over the original. It had more of a cohesive plot and I loved how mysterious the lead character is. This looks closer to the first season, but just with a majority female cast.
Visually, the animation is quite a bit worse. There are relatively few dynamic action scenes and the choreography in them is worse than the first season. Story-wise, it's plot was more blatant and really did more, but the the characters were flatter. For as random as the first season was, it intertwined a lot of character depth. Noata, Ninamori, Mamimi, Kitsurubami, and Amarao among others had more substance than any of the Progressive cast. Midomi has basically nothing to her. She likes zombies and being eaten, but that doesn't really apply to anything she does. Her 'overflowering' was about as fleshed out as Mamimi's. It, or the headphone plot really didn't go anywhere. In general there's more focus on presenting the story than the characters. While being an issue in the first season, it also introduces a few things and doesn't explain them. Plant girl comes out of nowhere at the end. How did Haruko eat Jinyu(and get pirate-king-esque powers) and the general plot thread between them? You don't really learn anything new about Atmosk from it. And petty things like why Haruko's hair color is different(did she spit up Jinyu after the first season?).
FEARnoHATE I think part of why I disliked this sequel so much is that while FLCL 1 was vibrant, kinetic, varied, and daring, FLCL 2 feels plain and often safe, offering nothing but bad attempts at pandering to the trends of the 2010s instead of the 90s/2000s and introducing plot elements that are dubious at best, both in their own right, and in regards to the original. Apart from the art style shift in episode 5 and one or two dream sequences, FLCL 2 rarely tries different art styles. The animation tends to feel stiff and awkward with the plain designs and art style, and the weak use of cell phones and that tsundere act like that’s wrong on a variety of levels, only add to how this show feels more aggressively modern than genuinely progressive as a sequel to the kind of spirit and vision of the original. There are weird elements about the otherwise bland main female lead that are unexplored, and the narrative is a total mess with what it introduces. While I’m not a fan of the original, it had a sense of uniqueness and passion that’s hard to rival. The sequel never felt like it tried to live up to the sense of passion or identity its titan of a predecessor had. It had the surface elements of FLCL, and while obviously no one was expecting to try to relive that show through this sequel, it never quite felt bold or interesting enough to justify itself as a sequel to something unique that never needed one. I also really didn’t like any of the characters in this one, and felt that Haruko’s arc was terrible. Jinyu was a waste of a kickass design in my opinion as well.
The thing is Progressive totally missed the point of FLCL. It was never supposed to be about some convoluted sci-fi/fantasy plot. The original show used that as window dressing to Naota growing up, whereas Progressive makes the show _about_ that. Now, if people are into that kind of thing I can understand why they like it... It's just, I feel like FLCL original (even if I'm not the biggest fan of it tbh) did something DIFFERENT and subversive. You could pretty much see what you get in Progressive in any modern action anime, except for The Pillows soundtrack. Personally, I'm tired of watching the same show over and over again.
I mean, personally, I only cared about 2 characters from Progressive, while I loved all these girls. I also just liked Alternative's story better because I can relate to the main character's struggle of being afraid of growing up and taking on responsibilities (though I'm 24 so things are a liiitle more urgent for me lol) and trying to be a people pleaser and help them I still liked progressive though! I just think it was the worst of the three
I really enjoyed Progressive, but I think I'm going to *love* Alternative. Progressive felt like it was trying to capture the weird, rebellious, experimental side of the original FLCL, but Alternative looks like it's just going to be pure fun and energy!

It started off pretty well but it seems like they wrote the story first and underestimated how difficult it would be to condense it well for 6 episodes. It seems like they had to sacrifice story progress for huge scenes. Hidomi and ide really needed more time to develop and/or grow on you. Every episode felt like key development time was skipped.

Joe Reno um Being an artist isn’t my job, so I don’t really see how that’s valid? Progressive was a project down by a full studio who’s job is to animate, so obviously I couldn’t do better than that. I can’t even draw. That being said, that doesn’t make it immune from criticism. Apart from episode five, progressive looks cheaper than most current anime, and it doesn’t have any flashy or interesting style. It looks as bland as bland can get which is made even worse by the fact that it has the name of Fooly Cooly. The first show had such a lively feel to it. Every little thing had life to it, so of course the static and stilted animation of progressive left a lot to be desired. The writing of progressive was also terrible. The characters felt kinda flat (especially the side characters), and even the ones with some personality like hidomi and ide weren’t really that interesting. It never really felt like they had any purpose in the actual story other than to be sorta be there. The only thing there was *very* limited character growth. Ide learned something maybe and hidomi and her mom fix their relationship which was apparently a thing I guess? They literally just randomly dropped that In the final episode because why not. I guess there was some semblance of family problems brought it up in the first episode but it was never brought up again until the final episode so it didn’t feel like anything satisfying. There was the relationship between ide and hidomi I guess but neither characters were interesting enough or had any good or unique chemistry to care about. It kinda felt like it was there just to be there. Which is a pretty consistent problem throughout the show. Plot points like that one girl who pretended to be people’s girlfriends (I honestly don’t remember her name) turns out to be a plant person or something because why not? Finally, it just wasn’t a necessary sequel. The original show had its own ending with a satisfying conclusion. There was no need for a sequel. The new to series, to me at least, just seem like a cheap cash grab at peoples nostalgia. Even if you dont compare it to the original, it’s just not that good. With cheap and lazy animation, and uninteresting writing, I just really didn’t like the new FLCL. Sorry if my harsh wording seemed like just a random petty insult. Hopefully this one is a little more thought for you :)

Really liking Alternative so far. Definitely meatier than Progressive. I think it's safe to say it's at least 90% as good as the original so far. That's still phenomenal considering how great the original was. Three more episodes to go!

Naota and his concerns with growing up and being a real mature adult was the backbone of the original series, something that tied it all together even through the sci-fi/anime weirdness, something that Progressive really lacked. while nothing can truly live up to the original, the art style and theme expressed here give me hope that this one will gel a lot better
After Progressive, I have no good expectations. They can write a story, sure, but they sure don't like to use amazing, creative animation to emphasize its beats.
I gotta say, for somebody who likes more depressing tones of media more then silly and happy ones, I quite liked Progressive. It was kinda not too weird and quirky, more serious and developing, ending on a really despairing but hopeful note; my unpopular opinion boils down to the final consensus of both shows weighing with FLCL S1 getting a 10/10 and S2 a 8.9/10
I never even said anything about Progressive, but people seem to assume I'm saying I didn't like it. I thought it was okay. I don't have much of a solid opinion on my how I feel about the original FLCL, anyway, but I could tell that this was under a different staff and went for a different direction. Similarly, I can tell this will also be a different interpretation of the series, so I'm interested in that. The thing I really do I like about this series is that it heavily encourages creativity and expressive freedom, which I welcome with open arms in the animation industry.

Show me one show from last season that was as good on a purely technical level (to elaborate: art direction, animation, direction, shot composition, music, voice acting, etc.).
It was above average for the season at the very least but since it didn't live up to your massively overblown, dripping-with-nostalgia expectations you ruined any possibility of enjoyment for yourself right out of the gate.
Adult swim shouldn't reboot shows or do their own original shit anymore. You entitled morons clearly don't appreciate it.

Got to watch the world premier of the first episode and I gotta say, MUCH better than season 2. Still doesn't seem as good as the original but it was still very enjoyable. I look forward to this season!

It feels like I'm discovering flcl all over again with this one. I'm betting I'll enjoy it more than the previous two seasons
There's something about this and what I remember from the april fools episode 1 air date that makes me think this was the original intent of a sequal but they decided to squeeze in Progressive out of either desire to just experiment or an exec trying to get more product to sell with a lower budget. Not saying I didnt enjoy season 2, while I had my gripes as a form of entertainment, I very much enjoyed it and excitedly await the air of this one!

Just finished Progressive and they announcing another FLCL?! This is awesome! Forget Attack on Titan S3, it's all FOOLYCOOLY this year!
Someone needs to really explain what was wrong with Progressive. I thought it was great and honestly I like it over the original. It had more of a cohesive plot and I loved how mysterious the lead character is. This looks closer to the first season, but just with a majority female cast.
Visually, the animation is quite a bit worse. There are relatively few dynamic action scenes and the choreography in them is worse than the first season.
Story-wise, it's plot was more blatant and really did more, but the the characters were flatter. For as random as the first season was, it intertwined a lot of character depth. Noata, Ninamori, Mamimi, Kitsurubami, and Amarao among others had more substance than any of the Progressive cast.
Midomi has basically nothing to her. She likes zombies and being eaten, but that doesn't really apply to anything she does. Her 'overflowering' was about as fleshed out as Mamimi's. It, or the headphone plot really didn't go anywhere.
In general there's more focus on presenting the story than the characters.
While being an issue in the first season, it also introduces a few things and doesn't explain them. Plant girl comes out of nowhere at the end. How did Haruko eat Jinyu(and get pirate-king-esque powers) and the general plot thread between them? You don't really learn anything new about Atmosk from it. And petty things like why Haruko's hair color is different(did she spit up Jinyu after the first season?).

FEARnoHATE I think part of why I disliked this sequel so much is that while FLCL 1 was vibrant, kinetic, varied, and daring, FLCL 2 feels plain and often safe, offering nothing but bad attempts at pandering to the trends of the 2010s instead of the 90s/2000s and introducing plot elements that are dubious at best, both in their own right, and in regards to the original.
Apart from the art style shift in episode 5 and one or two dream sequences, FLCL 2 rarely tries different art styles. The animation tends to feel stiff and awkward with the plain designs and art style, and the weak use of cell phones and that tsundere act like that’s wrong on a variety of levels, only add to how this show feels more aggressively modern than genuinely progressive as a sequel to the kind of spirit and vision of the original. There are weird elements about the otherwise bland main female lead that are unexplored, and the narrative is a total mess with what it introduces. While I’m not a fan of the original, it had a sense of uniqueness and passion that’s hard to rival. The sequel never felt like it tried to live up to the sense of passion or identity its titan of a predecessor had. It had the surface elements of FLCL, and while obviously no one was expecting to try to relive that show through this sequel, it never quite felt bold or interesting enough to justify itself as a sequel to something unique that never needed one.
I also really didn’t like any of the characters in this one, and felt that Haruko’s arc was terrible. Jinyu was a waste of a kickass design in my opinion as well.
The thing is Progressive totally missed the point of FLCL. It was never supposed to be about some convoluted sci-fi/fantasy plot. The original show used that as window dressing to Naota growing up, whereas Progressive makes the show _about_ that. Now, if people are into that kind of thing I can understand why they like it...
It's just, I feel like FLCL original (even if I'm not the biggest fan of it tbh) did something DIFFERENT and subversive. You could pretty much see what you get in Progressive in any modern action anime, except for The Pillows soundtrack. Personally, I'm tired of watching the same show over and over again.
I mean, personally, I only cared about 2 characters from Progressive, while I loved all these girls. I also just liked Alternative's story better because I can relate to the main character's struggle of being afraid of growing up and taking on responsibilities (though I'm 24 so things are a liiitle more urgent for me lol) and trying to be a people pleaser and help them

I really enjoyed Progressive, but I think I'm going to *love* Alternative. Progressive felt like it was trying to capture the weird, rebellious, experimental side of the original FLCL, but Alternative looks like it's just going to be pure fun and energy!

Mr. Otaku200 either or. I am quite sure progressive needed more time. It started off pretty well but it seems like they wrote the story first and underestimated how difficult it would be to condense it well for 6 episodes. It seems like they had to sacrifice story progress for huge scenes. Hidomi and ide really needed more time to develop and/or grow on you. Every episode felt like key development time was skipped.

Joe Reno um Being an artist isn’t my job, so I don’t really see how that’s valid? Progressive was a project down by a full studio who’s job is to animate, so obviously I couldn’t do better than that. I can’t even draw. That being said, that doesn’t make it immune from criticism. Apart from episode five, progressive looks cheaper than most current anime, and it doesn’t have any flashy or interesting style. It looks as bland as bland can get which is made even worse by the fact that it has the name of Fooly Cooly. The first show had such a lively feel to it. Every little thing had life to it, so of course the static and stilted animation of progressive left a lot to be desired. The writing of progressive was also terrible. The characters felt kinda flat (especially the side characters), and even the ones with some personality like hidomi and ide weren’t really that interesting. It never really felt like they had any purpose in the actual story other than to be sorta be there. The only thing there was *very* limited character growth. Ide learned something maybe and hidomi and her mom fix their relationship which was apparently a thing I guess? They literally just randomly dropped that In the final episode because why not. I guess there was some semblance of family problems brought it up in the first episode but it was never brought up again until the final episode so it didn’t feel like anything satisfying. There was the relationship between ide and hidomi I guess but neither characters were interesting enough or had any good or unique chemistry to care about. It kinda felt like it was there just to be there. Which is a pretty consistent problem throughout the show. Plot points like that one girl who pretended to be people’s girlfriends (I honestly don’t remember her name) turns out to be a plant person or something because why not? Finally, it just wasn’t a necessary sequel. The original show had its own ending with a satisfying conclusion. There was no need for a sequel. The new to series, to me at least, just seem like a cheap cash grab at peoples nostalgia. Even if you dont compare it to the original, it’s just not that good. With cheap and lazy animation, and uninteresting writing, I just really didn’t like the new FLCL. Sorry if my harsh wording seemed like just a random petty insult. Hopefully this one is a little more thought for you :)

Really liking Alternative so far. Definitely meatier than Progressive. I think it's safe to say it's at least 90% as good as the original so far. That's still phenomenal considering how great the original was. Three more episodes to go!

Naota and his concerns with growing up and being a real mature adult was the backbone of the original series, something that tied it all together even through the sci-fi/anime weirdness, something that Progressive really lacked.
while nothing can truly live up to the original, the art style and theme expressed here give me hope that this one will gel a lot better

I gotta say, for somebody who likes more depressing tones of media more then silly and happy ones, I quite liked Progressive. It was kinda not too weird and quirky, more serious and developing, ending on a really despairing but hopeful note; my unpopular opinion boils down to the final consensus of both shows weighing with FLCL S1 getting a 10/10 and S2 a 8.9/10
I never even said anything about Progressive, but people seem to assume I'm saying I didn't like it. I thought it was okay. I don't have much of a solid opinion on my how I feel about the original FLCL, anyway, but I could tell that this was under a different staff and went for a different direction. Similarly, I can tell this will also be a different interpretation of the series, so I'm interested in that. The thing I really do I like about this series is that it heavily encourages creativity and expressive freedom, which I welcome with open arms in the animation industry.
