Craig Trnka Judging Shoes & Shoeing Demo at FAWS Contest-Part 1

This other weekend we had the FAWS (Farriers Association of Washington State) Fall Convention/Contest in Ellensburg, WA with Craig Trnka judging. In this video you'll see Craig judge shoes that were made in the final forging class and do a shoeing demo on a horse with handmade concave steel and concave caulk and wedges on the hind end for a horse that is going elk hunting in the mountains. Fortunately I was able to win this class and the overall contest. Hope you enjoy seeing a mixture of all the competitors having a go at the fall contest!

Craig clearly doesn’t understand breakover. NFR barrel and rope horses run in shoes with “breakover”. But what Craig calls breakover, is simply reducing leverage on the tendons and ligaments to prevent injury. Extremely important with performance horses.
