    I had to stop mid lesson to post when I heard you say you had been feeling a bit of content creation burnout. Please know (and keep in mind!) that you are teaching and inspiring so many people. Your efforts here are truly singular. Anyway, I hope that helps. Now back to the lesson.

      Thank you, that's very kind. I will keep that in mind the next time I get burnt out.

    I'm getting ready to start mine over. I really love the way you describe in detail what you did with the sky. I was pretty lost at the beginning as to what pigments you were mixing and my water came out too green. I tried to tone it down with a wash of liquid and red but it looks nothing like yours. Let's not talk about my barn😂 Do you consider yourself to be painting in the tonalist style. I'm new to oils but I know I want to paint like you. Thank you for these long, detailed lessons

      You're very kind in your comments, and in the end it's about practicing the correct basic techniques, it can take years to become a master but it doesn't take very long at all to become very good.
      Yes I do consider a lot of my work is tonalism.
      Thank you very much.

      no 9452 u dont want to paint like HIM but yes u said you need to know his mixes ,,of 4 instance the make of the paints he uses as painting is a tonal tour, you herd he has been struggling with burn out as he calls it this is something we all suffer with in our jurney to develope OUR OWN STYLE, i for instance admire j w turner, as the best watercolor artist thats ever been but i dont want to paint like him thats not the object of painting,its a lonly path we tread, frustrating at times and we sometimes have to rest up and have a break, i do and ive been painting 25+ years ,ive noticed how many followers he has and subscribers 7.5k and when have this volume of followers ,they crack the "whip", i dont need to ern a living from you tube but does he,?????? so we need to cut him some slack ,lol but he should tell us first where he is from the start, i agree ,

    Can you share a link to the reference photo to help paint along?

    • @allendixon
      @allendixon  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For this piece I used a number of reference photos, my method is to sit and look at a number of photos that catch my eyes and then come up with my own composition for it. so it doesn't look anything like the reference photos when I've finished. I will make a video soon explaining this.

      Thank you so much for these wonderful videos, I know I join so many others in being so happy each time I see a new video of yours in my feed!
      I wondered if you tend to use thumbnail sketches, sort of value sketches, to plan paintings with?

    Kind of underlining @pamalafarnham9452’s comment, as a beginner who’s following/painting along (not in sync), the narrated lessons are for me by far the most useful; and this one in particular is outstanding. I suppose you will need to satisfy the algorithmic gods, and they may demand Timelapse. I’d feel churlish to complain about that, so instead I’ll just be thankful for the narrated lessons.
    Aside: I’m curious if you feel that your running commentary interrupts your flow, or if it might in some ways enhance it, or produce other good effects? There’s some evidence of the possibility of the latter from experiments in design theory (yawn?), and also anecdotally (and more pertinently?) from *very strong* chess players who discovered over the past few years that they can make money from streaming.

    No Timelapse. Push through the creator burnout. You will get more and more exposure. Good times are around the bend.
