- Today I prune Campfire Moringa - one of the cuttings from Giant Leaf in the front yard. These trees grow so fast!!

Wow you have a beautiful Moringa plant. You can cook the moringa flowers too. They are edible. You just need to saute onions or shallots and add these flowers and salt and garnish with some pepper powder. It tastes amazing
I just planted a cutting 3 weeks ago and its got leaves already. So, I live on Big Island Hawaii and 2 acres just sitting there in the Puna Jungle. You've inspired me to use that acerage for a Moringa Forest! Volunteers from all over the world come to learn to live sustainably here. I did that for 2 years so now this is a way better volunteer gig for world travelers after Coronavirus. Plus the medicine will be dispersed in our community to Kahuna who need it most. The Moringa trees in Hawaii are called Mallungay in the north of Philippines, and Marrungay in the tagalog or central area of the Philippines. The ones in Hawaii were originally brought there by the Filipino contract workers who came to work on the sugar and pineapple plantations starting about the early 1900s. The whole tree can be used, and the more you cut, the more it grows. It has a long fruit, which I think is classified as a vegetable which is a staple food in the Philippines, and the leaves can be eaten raw, cooked, and powdered. Dry the leaves, and put thru a small grinder. I keep a jar of powdered and put on my foods, especially in soups, and my coffee. A miracle tree with medicinal and nutritional ingredients. Easy to grow, by way of a branch into the ground, or a seed from the fruit.

Hey, thanks for the videos I live in Florida and I had a big tree it was cut down because the neighbors complained about the flowers and the drumsticks. I live in a apartment with a small yard. Now from the one cut down branches started growing took some time. I did not know what to do with the branches until this video. Thank you so much. I planted seeds gave a lot to my mom she has about 10 baby’s. I have 6 including from the big tree. The bees and butterflies loves the flowers.

Here in Jamaica they grow everywhere , I usually just take leaves wherever I see them but after watching this I'm going to start grow a few in my back yard. Thanks for the vid.

Love watching them grow! I have one in the yard and today I pruned a couple of branches and planted them in the ground about 2 meters apart. I let the original tree grow until it grew pods. Which was yummy by the way, I added the young pods (thick like my pinky) to my lamb korma. Yummy indeed.

Inspired by your actions and suggestions, I did level my 43 moringa oleifera PKM1 trees this last Saturday - to a 5-foot "fedge" (food hedge). Got a good harvest out of it, dehydrated it and it's now in tight bags in the freezer, ready for smoothies, stews, omelets, and frittatas. Mostly for the frittatas - which also include the leaves of the Egyptian Spinach - which grew from the seeds you gave to me (thanks!). Perhaps your big moringa harvest will dovetail with your upcoming demo of your "big as a car" solar dehydrator device. 'Lookin' forward to it. Thanks again.

Wow! Moringa loves Hawaii climate. Growing so healthy and lush. I have 5 trees, all in huge pots in So. California. Yes, they grow so fast. My last one is from a seed from last year. Absolutely healthy and is about 8 feet tall.

I planted some seeds in the same wine barrel half where I grow dwarf banana trees. The Moringa came up and started to get so big that they were
robbing the sun from my banana trees. So, I chopped them at the soil level. It didn't kill them, though. They grew back.

Hey Dave, I am from Jordan in the Middle East, I grow moringa in my home backyard, and on the sidewalk in front of my house, I have about 50 moringa small trees, every 2 months I prun it. Here in summer the temperature reached nearly 50°C، I consume moringa as food every day. My question : How long does it take to transfer the cuttings from the pot to the soil? Thank you
Dam that’s wild a cut that big will take hold. Some beautiful little trees. I have a couple started from seed they seem to be doing well but I’ve heard they can start well and then die or struggle after sprouting and looking good. So my plan is to up pot some and put others right into soil where I want them in my yard with some protection from tortious , Rollie pollies ,rabbits , dogs ect.

thanks for posting, i have about 20 in ground various stages of starting, will do another 8 or so tomorrow, yes they are wonderful tree, besides for people i will plan as forage food for pigs and toss some into worm beds once i get started with worms in next couple of months. i found one established moringa i did not know we had it has seed pods so i will try to start each seed, my goal is at least 1000 moringa and also madre de agua and azolla or duckweed for pigs along with lots of fermented sweet potatoes, have first batch of sweet's planted had to bring from home ( usa ) to here in philippines trying to learn about fermenting. wow from what i read 75 percent moringa in pig diet i am impressed. if it all works on this small land i will buy a bigger land and have 10,000 moringa or more

Its my second year growing moringa. Three survived from my first year plants. The ones that didnt make wad probably becsuse of very poor soil where i planted them which os more like dust then soil. But the ones that survived will have stronger DNA so their cuttings will already be adapted to the climate conditions
The more I watch you and read the comments, the more I want to grow these. Here in Michigan will have to use my grow room and set out in the summer. I hope it wroks.

Thanks for the videos. I am planning to plant some Moringa trees and got some trees that I was going to grow but after looking at your videos, I will be doing the stems instead. I am from Gambia in West Africa and we have about 5 months of rains annually from June to October. I hope to grow at least 50 trees at least by mid August this year.

I'd like to see that too....I have a new tree and it's already over my head. I need to prune it but need to see exactly how to plant the cuttings.
You take the leaves off cut them in 1.5 to 2 ft and plant them in peat moss mix. Keep moist until they root.
Trimming moringa trees back like that makes them look fantastic! It gives them so much more character. The commercial methods don't seem to view this as economical though. They let them grow tall and stringy. There are a number of videos on TH-cam showing commercial operations over in the Philippines, India, etc. and they're all growing them close together and they walk up to these tall thin stalks and just bend them over to strip all the branches and leaves off.
I let mine grow tall and stringy last year, but I think that even if the bushy or gnarled appearance reduces leaf production, it's probably not enough to make that much difference. When they're tall and stringy, you can barely even see the blooms because they're 20' up in the air.
I planted some moringa trees in April 1ft to about 2-3ft in size Now in July they are 5ft to about 12ft Amazing. I did not use wood chips actually gravel rock is all around my yard. After this rain we had last week they look really green beautiful trees. Its amazing how they grow in this heat I water them every day about 5mins each tree. I've also planted 15 palm trees in my yard they are doing good. I'm trying to make my yard look like your in Hawaii🌴🌴🌳🌳🌴🌵🌵🌿🌿

Would a Moringa survive if planted in southern AZ. Looked after 6 cool mos. and on its own during hot months {Snowbird} .These are amazing trees for health !!!
You can plant moringa as an annual - like a veggie garden in colder climates. April in Deserts but May and June in most places are sowing times for Moringa for N Hemisphere - They love the heat and full sun and dont like to sit in standing water. In colder areas you can plant in rows with a raised bed or direct in the ground. with seeds very close together they will all grow together and produce a beautiful green bounty for the summer. then when it gets colder harvest it all - roots too. and you can store roots inside over winter if you want or process them for medicinal use. In order for the moringa to grow year round, it cannot freeze for more than a few days per year.
I have a young, stringy moringa that I want to prune (about 7 months old). The whole tree is about 6 feet tall, but very bare. I would like it to be tall, but leafy. Should I prune it on the trunk where I want it to START becoming leafy? Or wait for it to grow a bit taller first? Thanks for your help! This video is awesome!
Hello Jenni! thank you, and yes I like to prune at approx eye level for the first time bc I like a small trunk. And this will allow it to branch out and will encourage branching and get quite tall!

My soil is not soil , some sterile stuff that doesn’t even pretend to look like soil otherwise summers are like S. California
roderick fiske that’s amazing! If you add wood chips on top you will begin to build soil... I have very hard clay and rock but with a bunch of wood chips now I have great soil within a couple years

i would say campfire Moringa isn't liking the ash might be too heavy . The charcoal in the ground being a purifier, maybe stopping micro organisms that work with the tree for good health. just a thought.

They don’t like winter... they will grow very slow and may stall out all together... but as long as they don’t freeze they will come back in spring and summer...

@@marygray4215 right on! And yes you can eat yellow leaves they are just lacking the chlorophyll that the green leaves have... but I do prefer eating fresh green leaves over the yellow ones :)
You mention to trim the Moringa mid summer so it has time to grow before winter. Do they survive the winter?
sometimes - bigger ones do better after a winter with 3-5 freezes

In Central California, it gets down to 30ºF in winter and I thought it was too cold for Moringa to grow. I planted a seed
in a large grow bag and it came up, but when winter came, it looked like it died. But next June, it sprang up from it's roots.
The previous trunk of the tree was dead, but the root was alive and sent up a Moringa plant. It now has seed pods. Encouraged,
I planted Moringa seeds in the front and back yards and some of them grew to 9 feet tall. And surprisingly, some of them have
blossoms, but none but the 2nd season Moringa has seed pods. Hopefully, next year I'll have many Moringa trees with seed pods.
I suppose they'll all look dead when it gets cold. I've seen another video of a woman in San Diego, who cuts the trunks to about
1 foot tall for the winter. I think this helps to indicate where the root system is. I intend to keep my trunks uncut, because
I will grow gourds next to them and the gourds will climb the trunks.

How long it take to prune
I think you can eat the bark but can you eat the wood? Is it nutritious? Make sawdust out of it and eat it.

I don't recall my moringa trees getting those flowers they just get large bushy branches with those round almond petal shaped leaves on two sides and a bunch of tiny brown seeds looking tiny offshoot branches. Maybe the seeds are briefly like flowers before they turn into red brown seed clumps? What is the powder used for and how? It is too dry to extract any essential oils through press. Maybe simmer powder in olive oil or something then press it to get transfer of goodness to store as oils? What do you do? Anyone can reply please share info

Saw the electric company do that to some trees once they call it coppicing and they do grow back but not all trees will recover and whew - poor tree - that was so flukk you TREE take that at like 6:02 ! OK I made a funny
They really like a heavy pruning. The powder is used for many culinary dishes or tea or seasoning or simply taking in capsule form.
Essential oil can be pressed from the leaves however most commonly the seeds are pressed to produce Ben oil.
The flowers come in pretty heavily before pods.

Hello! The reason they looked different is because Campfire was literally planted in a campfire and most of that was ash! lol. It is doing so well now though! both of them are.

Do you think that I could grow Moringa in northern Canada if I were to winter it indoors? If so, where would I get seeds?
purrrrson as long and they don’t freeze. You can also plant as an annual in summer and harvest before the freeze. Like veggies.

Janet Whiteman I do not consider them invasive. They are a taproot so they travel down... however the feeder roots can get big and travel horizontally also. I make sure to plant at least 5-6 feet away from any structure just in case:)
I love the flowers too- squeezing the nectar out of them tastes really good.
Do you have a guide on options for pruning? I understand it is a broad question based on what you want it to do, but a starting point would be nice. (yes i've watched tons of your videos.) The 2 I have from seed have grown from 2ft to 4ft in the last 2 weeks.

Martine Reed no. They are just branches when I plant them... thicker the better and I plant them deep... they develop roots over the first couple months of being planted:)

Does Moringa flower have a nice fragrance?
Verica Cvetkovic some trees have much more fragrance than others. I have one tree I call ‘fragrant moringa’ and when she flowers it smells so good! But most of my moringas have a very mild sweet smell when they bloom. Very beautiful flowers though!

How much watering are you doing daily? Slow drip all day or pour a gallon all at once per tree? Just trying to get a idea how much to do with wood chips.
I like to water every day during the growing season . but not much like 5-8 mins per zone per day.

Cuttings sometimes take longer to see sprouts. Must be patient but the thicker the cutting the more full it will grow.
I have had seeds grow and produce pods in year 1. My cuttings mostly produced pods in year 2

Sir we have a new variety of Moringa. Only 6-7 months flowering start. Then yearly 2 times production by seeds. R u know about?

Hi, no it's not PKM 1. It was old. Now a great result in India of new ODC. And ODC 3
In my area there is a lack of water. I m trying to produce inside the Moringa another crops like gerenium. Have u any more low water crops like gerenium?
