I lived in Japan for 12 years and only after I moved back to the states, I got into cycling. It’s been fun watching your videos to see what it would be like to ride in Japan. Also beautiful bike my friend!
I was using Gatorskin as a NYC bike messenger and was always getting flats. Eventually I found out it was because I would always put ten psi more air in them to make them faster. So if you have puncture resistant tires and out still getting flats make sure you’re putting in the psi it says on the tires not over.
Just bought some for the back wheel of my e-mtb, due to never ending flat tires. When I started my first ride with them it felt much smoother while going over rocks. I actually thought the tire was underinflated, but when I stopped to check it I found it to be fine. The rest of my ride was great and the tire behaved just as advertised. I also had a degree of confidence that I was not going to have a flat in the middle of my ride. I've only had one ride so far, but it was a very positive experience!
I may try this on my commuter bike. Sounds really nice. But let's all take a moment to appreciate the colors on that bike, it's dope. The reason I've always hesitated on airless tire is because breaking a spoke would... suck. But that sucks either way, and flats are 1000x more common.
Funny how this type of tyre makes cycling also go full circle, coz the earliest wheels and tyres in bikes were solid rubber. Dunlop, the guy who made pneumatic tires, wanted his child to not bounce around when biking, hence made the earliest version of air tyres.
I'm finally ditching my heavy beach cruiser and MTB bikes for a first time road bike. My wife often use to complain about how heavy my previous bikes were and when I finally purchase my new bike today I'll be also be getting the tannis no flat tires as well
It would be interesting to see how these tires wear over time in comparison to others. It's nice not having to worry about punctures. The last time I had a flat, I ended up walking about 6K. It was due to a default in the tube.
I got a set of Tannus airless tires after watching your videos. I will say they were quite hard to get installed. I was able to get them on the rim using zip ties which came from a separate video, that part was more or less the easy part. Once I got them on latching the little pegs in was the part that was rough. I am super glad i got the P tool or I may have flipped a table trying snap them in. I think the P tool should be standard. After riding them this weekend, I do not think I will ever go back to pneumatic tires, goat heads and my tires do not get along.
Hey I just installed the Tannus Airless tires on my road bike. I have only put on 45 km on them so far as the weather has not been cooperating. Here's my take on the installation: I was expecting a really hard time after watching multiple videos - It only took 30 minutes to install both tires. Way easier than I thought - in fact I didn't need to use the tool in the final stage. I made sure the clips were evenly spaced and when I rolled the tire on the clips just started snapping in place. I squeezed the tire to the rim using my hand to make sure all clips snapped in place, which took a couple of minutes. As for my first ride: I do notice more of a drag and expect this to improve as I haven't rode the 100 to 160 km as suggested. I bought the 700 -25 slicks at 100PSI. On a good surface I can't tell much of a difference from a comfort put of view. They don't bounce back as much when you hit a large bump or pot hole. However not worrying about a flat is great. Being in my 60's I don't do the 100km day rides anymore however, I do put on around 150 km to 200 km a week on the bike and I was always frustrated getting flats - around 5 to 6 times a year. I tried tubeless - which I loved for comfort and speed however, the tires are softer and get chewed up when hitting stones and breaks in the pavement and I was constantly replacing them on a annual basis. I tried gator skins and still continued to get flats ( I found the gator skins harder to put on than the airless tires) so decided to go airless. I expect to get around 3 years if the warranty holds true based on the number ok km's I ride on the road bike. My take: It is great not worrying about getting a flat anymore, I have more room in my bike pouch for snacks (LOL) as I don't need any tire repair kits and tools. I am more than happy to give up a bit of speed and comfort. Would certainly recommend them to commuters who are doing around 5km to 15km a day commuting.
Agreed, stick with what works, I've been using the Schwalbe GT365 which are heavy and uncool but only get problems when I change to others. Great to see the sakura thanks for sharing.
Fairplay to you brother enjoy life. Riding the specialised roubaix on 28 inch tyres feels great to. Vittoria corsa are the tyres good puncture resistant yours look nice and visual.
Amazing blossom 🌸. What I will say is heavier tyres mean more rotating mass which is different to the stationary mass of a spare tube and a pump. Ride safe 😉
I like your impressions. I looked into them a bit more since you mentioned them on your channel and saw that they have "Tannus armour", which you would put between the tube and the tyre. I see them as an alternative for people who want to have more variation in tyre pressure. Maybe something you also could look into, if you continue to be stuck in Japan.
I ride marathons on gravel roads and regular ones...they’re pretty indestructible...and I do like playing with tire pressure considering I vary on riding the surfaces. Thx for the review, well done.
Thank you for your opinion I have been thinking about their "Armour" in between protection because that way you keep the tires you're used to, plus if anything structural happens it's easier to repair on the road. Even this system will always be heavier than a glued tubular but the tubes are smaller and as you pointed no need to carry a pump, spare tube, tools, etc.
I think these would be great for commuting depending on where you ride. When I was commuting in Switzerland, the roads are pretty clean, during my 8 years of nearly daily commuting, I think I only had one flat. But here in Florida, I'm sure I'm going to see more flats, just by looking at all the glass and random stuff on the sides of the road.
Love it I'm getting them! I have gatorskin tires.😎 70$ a piece! Went over a little wooden bridge for a second and a half and boom big splinter murdered them!🙊😫😵😡
In the UK right now we are in the middle of the farmers hawthorn hedge cutting season; I do all the puncture proofing including Gatorskin tyres, I have had 6 punctures now in three weeks. These Tannus tyres make a lot of sense to me if you're not concerning yourself with times, and lets be honest who other than those in an actual event should be bothering about times.
I have the tannus solid for my aluminum frame road bike 700x23c and my carbon aero bike at 700x25c but i also have the wheelset from tannus. I have a 11 speed cassette no flats tires go forever. A slight amount of more rolling resistance but its worth it i use my bikes to commute to work.
What an irony, your comparison to regular tires+repair kit convinced me in a second, but... they only provide high-pressure tires, which are way to stiff for my needs. Pity.. but thank you for sharing your experience, very helpful!
I put these on a Bacchetta recumbent. In warm weather the tires tended to allow an unstable roll side to side, tossing me into traffic when the bike was loaded for touring. I finally had to drop out and SAG. Being. Thrown into traffic was beyond terrifying!
Very useful - thank you The (increased)wheel mass of a wheel/tires is hardly significant. It's slightly counter intuitive until you think about it. Imagine very heavy wheels - they are slower to accelerate and more weight to haul up a hill but the spinning energy you put in to get them up to speed is just greater and not lost anywhere except under braking. The slightly heavier solid tire wheels you have just store a tiny bit more energy so you roll slightly further when not pedaling etc. According to most cycling engineer types - aerodynamics is way, way ,way more important than the almost insignificance of wheel weight differences in cycling. One report I read was an extra 300grams in wheel weight - going up and down hills in 10km produced a time penalty of 0.7 seconds! Yes.. It's all about weight for hills - no bicycle pump tubes etc etc will offset or better the standard set up.
just got some nexo ( also red , only red available and could find Tannus on amazon or anywhere ) for me and my brompton in Niigata Japan.. I find the tires get warm on a long ride and sometimes you can feel the back drift a bit especially when there are lines in a path or something. Brompton wheels are only 16" diameter so the wheels turn faster for the same speed so I can understand why they get warm... anyway , thanks for the Video..
220lbs rider who got the 105 psi type and tried them first on my rollers. Tires got really hot and felt like riding through deep mud. Road ride worked out well except I have to put out a lot more watts when climbing. Great commuter tire or riding with the slow group tire. I think slow rebound of the material is to blame for slower speed riding. It does work you out harder. I thought I ordered the high pressure version but they sent me the softer tires. I bought a set of pneumatic wheel set in case I can’t find a slow group to ride with on weekends
Back in the 1970's in the UK there was a TV science and inventions show called Tomorrows World, I saw these Tyres then, they had a kind of solid foam type of structure internally to provide the cushioned effect of pneumatic tyres, WOW it's took a long time for these to re surface. I thought the patent would have been bought and locked away by some big company.
I had these on my fixie for years. Highly recommended them for pure road or pavement use. The ride is ‘harder’ and heavier. I’d recommend getting those with tread not slicks. Now I had a fixed gear on a 12 tooth cog so if you have gears it shouldn’t be an issue. They are expensive so you need to be prepared to ‘invest’.
Good review, pedalling and talking is hard to do at the same time, I really appreciate how you show us the beauty of Japan while riding a bike. Thuong san is a good climber now... 🚵🦵
If anyone wants to try these but can't afford them, thorn-proof inner tubes and low tpi tyres (around 25-30 tpi) are a much cheaper alternative. I use them on my commuter and haven't had any punctures in 5000 kilometers.
Bright high visibility colors are the best and safest. Besides they look so much happier than bleak, dark, dull, drab black, brown or gray. Are the Tannis available for mtb bikes?
These tires were a nightmare. Felt like riding through peanut butter. Purchased and installed the 700 x 28 size on my road bike. The warmer the temperature, the more sluggish the tires felt as the compound became softer. It actually felt like the tires were sticking to the pavement. Put a total of 30 miles on them and, because of a terrible return policy, basically cut them off and tossed them. $150 down the drain.
Had my 700x28's on my cyclocross for a couple of weeks now and everything is great,my only slight concern is that of my cycling work colleagues who think that they would square off quick...we'll see.
I got a my first road bike(hybrid) last September. After every ride. I swear i have a flat when i come back to ride the next time. Aka i have to spend time changing a flat instead of riding. Only to return home with another flat. I am going to give these a shot. I ride for fun so i don't think the pressure will matter all the much for me.
I really love the concept of the Tannus tires, and i love your video. May i know if its cut proof or its durable in cuts and sharp edges? Thank you! Much appreciated.
After 2 flats on my Giant road bike , I changed to heavy duty tubes ( Puncture free ) , I also chaned to these tubes with my Avanti Bike , No punctures or problems so I abide by the old saying , "If it ain't Broke , don't fix it'!
Hi twc! Did you try putting a tire sealant into innertube? instead of putting the sealant into tubeless ready tires. Keep safe! Thank you.. Hoping for smooth moving to Vietnam. MABUHAY! 🇵🇭😉
9:32 She is getting away without pedaling, and she is lighter than you.....tire compound differences? Her bike tires have less resistance but yours have more?
I cycled Seoul to Busan, and then across Kyushu and a chunk of Shikoku on a new pair of Conti 4000's in Oct/Nov last year - not one puncture (and this was on a loaded bike). They also felt fantastic, so much more comfortable than the heavier touring style tyres I'd used previously.
I also run gp4000s ii tires, I've been using them on all of my road bikes for years with zero flats, hands down my favorite tire for road, second favorite has to the Marton HS420 non plus version
Igot a flat tire every other road ride in summer. Tired of the tires. I now ride my mountain bike only leaving the road bike in the garage. Solid tire would be the solution. I’ll go for it.
I've been on the exact same tires (red 700c) for about 2 years now - sure they weigh a bit more than normal tires, but I also don't have to carry a pump/C02, patches, tire irons, tubes, etc... I love them! they are a little sketchy in the rain (to me) but NOT any more than a typical 120psi racing slick. I just love the freedom to ignore what is on the ground. Glass? keep on riding. Caveat: I paid to have them installed :) so I skipped the painful install process. If you look at these as training/commute replacements, be sure to build them up on some bomb-proof rims, and you won't worry about your wheels in the event of a pulled spoke, etc... Now if they only made a 650bx50 version that replicated about 50 psi...
I used solid tires around 30 years ago, I think at the time they were called "Green tires" they broke my alloy rims in about 6 months, I would prefer to use gatorskins or some other puncture resistance tire,
I would say that flats have nearly made to totally want to give up riding.I just put on a new set of Schwalbe Big Ben green guard snakeskin and Tuffy tire liners..ive considered trying to go tubless but dont want to mess with the sealant and rather or not i can actually get my wheels and tires to work with tubeless..ive seen these type of tires before and wondered about them. I dont imagine they make them in 2" wide for 265lb guys? If they do please link me to them. I would like to take a look..Thanks
This is how tires use to be in my grandmother’s day. Solid rubber. Haven’t ridden one, but i imagine as you found out that they kinda suck on rough roads. Since i live in NYC the pothole capital of the world...so thats a no go for me. Lol. I find marathon tires on my hybrid work great. Never get a flat. Plus the tubeless tires seem to add even more puncture protection. So i don’t really see the point in solid wheels. The weight plus bumpy ride seem pointless to me.
Hey, new to biking here but using my bike for commute and want to do some cyclo-cross. Been really wondering about these tyres. I have a "road e-bike" (cannondale synapse neo) that helps up to 16mph/25kph, but I really like biking at around 30-33kph on the flat. Do you think it would make a big difference compare to the road tyres I have now ? Would you recommend them ? (Also, I ride 32mm, not sure they exist in that size). Thanks !
can you train and do fast group rides with these? i keep getting flats and im tired of it.....what tire do you reccomend for peformance that never goes flat!. are the tires pre set at 110psi and they never go flat right?
yes, they are preset to the psi you want, tannus gives you a few options. training definately they are slightly heavier, but think about not having to carry pumps tubes and patches. if your actually going to race switch back to regular tires
Thanx for the infos about tubeless riding, but my question is about this wonderful trees: I didnt see one bee in all your cycling videos under this blooming trees - no bees or other insects flying around??? Their sound should be on the audio lauder than your voice 😉 Stay as u are, like it!
Hi - need some help to select the right gravel tire. I currently have the Bontrager GR2 Team Issue Gravel Tire (700c 40mm) - but get flats all the time (even when i ride on the normal street - 1 week riding - flat - 4 flats on the back tire, 1 flat on the front tire in the last 4 weeks). I got the Tannus Armour Tire Inserts - but that doesnt fix the flat problem. Can you recomment me another gravel tire (high puncture resistance!)? which one has the best quality and prevents flats Panaracer, Vittoria, Continental or WTB or something else? My terrain: Road and also some Offroad (forrest with gravel and fine sand). I would say 60% road, 40% offroad.
I’ve looked at about every video dealing with these tires. I have yet to see anything about the application I’m going to do....That being putting them on our Hawthorne tandem. At age 74 for me and 75 for my wife/stoker, rolling resistance is a non-issue, the no puncture feature is paramount. I’d like to hear from anyone who has installed these tires on a tandem.
I may actually give these a try. I alway want to ride to work, but when i used to i would get flats from all the glass on the shoulders. Theres ALWAYS glass in this area.
Any comments/experiences with tire liners? I've been using Schwalbe Marathons for years, but have to throw away half of them because of manufacturing defects; so am considering adding the extra layer to normal tires. So far, my attempts have been disastrous, with the liner eating into the tube after a few km. (No, I won't go tubeless)
I usually stick with 25c or 28c tires with tire liners + slime tubes in my bikes. Since I started doing this a few years ago I haven't gotten any flats since.
@@alfreddelatourquipenche8287 im pretty sure its mr tuffy liners. Honestly ive had the liners for years since they don't really get damaged. You can just keep reusing them .
I'm riding one right now it decreases my speed and I'm slower then a mtb on decend without pedaling my speed is decreasing instead of increasing even tho I'm already in a very Aero position it's not on full power it's just start in the top of the hill and freewheel till the end on decend so for me that tire is amazing for training

Hey I just installed the Tannus Airless tires on my road bike. I have only put on 45 km on them so far as the weather has not been cooperating.
Here's my take on the installation:

I've got a Gatorskin in the rear and a fast tyre in the front. I got one puncture in the last five years, and it was in the rear. That's how it goes.

I got a my first road bike(hybrid) last September. After every ride. I swear i have a flat when i come back to ride the next time. Aka i have to spend time changing a flat instead of riding. Only to return home with another flat. I am going to give these a shot. I ride for fun so i don't think the pressure will matter all the much for me.
its so convenient especially on the long rides! absolutely 0% chance of flat even through glass thorns whatever
The Cherry Blossoms are beautiful. How can one ver have a bad day when cycling past those?
I really love the concept of the Tannus tires, and i love your video. May i know if its cut proof or its durable in cuts and sharp edges? Thank you! Much appreciated.
Haven't noticed any cuts yet, but I'm sure it's possible if you ride over glass/nails, etc
Thank you Sir!
Watch sickbiker channel for demo review
that's an awesome looking bike my friend!
I hope to hear what kind of mileage / longevity you get out of them. Maybe the extra cost is worth more than just the reliability.
Took mankind long enough to come up with these for bikes.
After 2 flats on my Giant road bike , I changed to heavy duty tubes ( Puncture free ) , I also chaned to these tubes with my Avanti Bike , No punctures or problems so I abide by the old saying , "If it ain't Broke , don't fix it'!
And because of that fucking say we haven't advanced in technology for more than 100 years. Grow the fuck up chimp
Hi twc! Did you try putting a tire sealant into innertube? instead of putting the sealant into tubeless ready tires. Keep safe! Thank you.. Hoping for smooth moving to Vietnam. MABUHAY! 🇵🇭😉
Thanks! Haven't tried that
I waited for the metal woven ones 😜 love the colour of your bike tho!
the red wheel looks dope with the frame
😎
Awww give your wife a hug for me she’s a worrier 😢
Lots of hugs 😁
New subscriber here! You two are so sweet! This was very helpful in deciding to purchase the airless solid or airless or original air filled.
How is traffic for bikes in Japan? Does the other road users (cars) show respect and take care? Also, do you commute to work in Japan on your bike?
It's a mixed back, check out my bike commuting playlist
9:32 She is getting away without pedaling, and she is lighter than you.....tire compound differences? Her bike tires have less resistance but yours have more?
That looked like a regular road bike. What makes that a cyclocross? I am a newb to cycling.
I've been using continental grand prix 4000S II (no tubeless)for 3 years and I've never gotten any flat tire yet
Nice, I've heard good things about those
I cycled Seoul to Busan, and then across Kyushu and a chunk of Shikoku on a new pair of Conti 4000's in Oct/Nov last year - not one puncture (and this was on a loaded bike). They also felt fantastic, so much more comfortable than the heavier touring style tyres I'd used previously.
3 years??? You must hardly ride!
I also run gp4000s ii tires, I've been using them on all of my road bikes for years with zero flats, hands down my favorite tire for road, second favorite has to the Marton HS420 non plus version
very informative and to the point
Igot a flat tire every other road ride in summer. Tired of the tires. I now ride my mountain bike only leaving the road bike in the garage. Solid tire would be the solution. I’ll go for it.
Good info...😀👍🚴♀️🚴♂️
Thanks 👍
I have a pair in the color blue on my road bike and I like them
I've been on the exact same tires (red 700c) for about 2 years now - sure they weigh a bit more than normal tires, but I also don't have to carry a pump/C02, patches, tire irons, tubes, etc...
Meen the color of the rb is so dope
Amazing combination love it❤
😁
I need 24” tires want to put them on a trike where can I get them and how
I used solid tires around 30 years ago, I think at the time they were called "Green tires" they broke my alloy rims in about 6 months, I would prefer to use gatorskins or some other puncture resistance tire,
How was it performance with wet surface??
I would say that flats have nearly made to totally want to give up riding.I just put on a new set of Schwalbe Big Ben green guard snakeskin and Tuffy tire liners..ive considered trying to go tubless but dont want to mess with the sealant and rather or not i can actually get my wheels and tires to work with tubeless..ive seen these type of tires before and wondered about them. I dont imagine they make them in 2" wide for 265lb guys? If they do please link me to them. I would like to take a look..Thanks
Hey man, nice vids! I have an old tire with size 700x32C. WIll a 700x23C airless tire fit as a replacement? Any answer will be much appreciated.
Depends on the rim width. Check their website for more specific details.
If they could adjust the compound to offer the equivalent of various commonly used PSIs it would be nice.
I use a tubeless setup the reason being I like to skid a lot. Btw I like the color scheme of your bike
Thanks !
I'm able to ride at these speeds no problem with them. But if you wanna do cx, it may be a pain to change the tires
@@TwoWheelCruise Great, thank you ! That's the info I needed.
I have 622-15c.. it look like my rims are not fitted to put a tannus on 😔 or am i wrong?
would you recomend this kind of wheel for road racing ? I lost so many times because of flat tires 😅
No, go with gatorskins
can you train and do fast group rides with these? i keep getting flats and im tired of it.....what tire do you reccomend for peformance that never goes flat!. are the tires pre set at 110psi and they never go flat right?
yes, they are preset to the psi you want, tannus gives you a few options. training definately they are slightly heavier, but think about not having to carry pumps tubes and patches. if your actually going to race switch back to regular tires
@@luis6876 will i lose speed and PR's on these when training or fast pace group rides?
Thanx for the infos about tubeless riding, but my question is about this wonderful trees:
I didnt see one bee in all your cycling videos under this blooming trees - no bees or other insects flying around??? Their sound should be on the audio lauder than your voice 😉 Stay as u are, like it!
Not many bugs out yet, but they will be soon
I’d like to hear from anyone who has installed these tires on a tandem.
those handlebars are dope what brand are they??
Old bontrager
Not personally, no
@@MBandC103 Which brand of liner do you use?
@@alfreddelatourquipenche8287 im pretty sure its mr tuffy liners. Honestly ive had the liners for years since they don't really get damaged. You can just keep reusing them .
@@MBandC103 I worry about them eating int the tube through abrasion, why I'm asking.
Do u recommend this tire for a guy who weighs 220
I always like your videos
Thanks! :)
