I threw in a Venser, Shaper Savant to bounce opponents' stuff or even my own to put a token generator back to hand, Tendershoot Dryad, Mystic Reflection, Parallel Lives, and a couple clone cards to get double the effects. It was very controlly, loved it.
On both of those notes, I just bought Esix on the basis of my friends all being rich bastards (*shakes fist*) who buy and field really good creatures, while hopefully I'll be able to scrape together some cheap token producers and at least be a presence in the game. Hopefully Esix will be the most expensive card in the deck, at two dollars, because man, MtG gets expensive real easy.
Mechanized production doesn't specify that it has to be that specific card that mechanized production is on. Just that you have to have 8 artifacts of the same name. Not really as important in this instance, but if you have it on a sol ring and make 8 thopter tokens you would still win.
So, if you're doing this without Old Gnawbone, you're probably missing out. That one makes Treasure tokens when it (or other creatures) hit a player, so you could have those 7+ tokens come in with Esix as something else.
I will add Myriad Construct. 4 colorless, 7 when kicked. It’s creates a 4/4 or with +x/+x for all non-basics opponents control. That can be huge instantly. Than just immediately target it with something yourself. And get a potentially enormous amount of tokens (at least 4)
I missed that it was a may ability! I think I’m about 50/50 on it now, it does help with ramp but it’s essentially dead as soon as Esix is out since it still just gives you one token 🤷♂️ - Peter
It would also be strong to include making non legendary copies of Esix and also including something that breaks the legendary rule so you can make legendary copies too you could even make say 5 unversitile copies of esix wich would make more tokens for each copy of Esix you have
I think you're attacking this from the wrong angle. The deck would be a lot more explosive if you had more "many tokens on entering" style creatures, like the Hornet Queen you mentioned, as opposed to incremental token makers, like Garruk and Koma. Some fun examples I like are Myr Battlesphere and Brood Monitor. Also, the cards that make tokens on the opponent's turn usually aren't very great, because Esix specifically says you only get copies on _your_ turn. This deck feels like it's more built around the other commander of the precon, the Twincasters.
I am.RIDICULOUSLY hyped for Strixhaven (both the set and C21) out of all the sets this year I'm glad C21 lined up with Strixhaven. The commander decks.having 1 for each school was a.flavor.I enjoyed. (Although I would've probably.been a fan of Kaldheim C21 top). Thisnyear has already blown 2020 out of the water for.me. I like Strixhaven 10x more than I liked.commander legends tbh
Would ancient tomb be good in this deck? Im just getting back into mtg after almost 3 decades and have that card on tge closet. If it would fit in what would you replace for it?
I imagine you're talking about the land. Ancient tomb is good in basically every deck if you have one. Any land that produces more than one mana in tap is worth consideration, and ancient tomb is the standard. Also, I'd steer away from this video if you're interested in this commander. It's a fine start, but just hit up moxfield and browse the commander and sort by most likes or comments to find more engaging strategies.
How about mitotic slime? It is kinda a non-bo because if it dies and you get the 2 2/2 tokens, they would lose their ability to split into 2 1/1s each. The flip side is that if they dont kill it you can copy it and you will always have fuel. It's like they either bite the bullet early or you kinda run out the game.
Hmm, interesting prospect. The fact that it makes 2 makes it more potent than some cards. The only thing I would say is that I don't have a high focus on sacrificing my own creatures, which means that the chance of Mitotic Slime's ability going off is dramatically lowered (opponents can basically control if it dies or is exiled, at least in my meta). In a more aristocrats build of the deck though, I think it's a great include, but otherwise, it functions about the same as Wurmcoil Engine and at that point I would rather have that. - Peter
After playtesting more, I have to agree. The only one that I can see leaving in is Mycoloth, but everything else is not worth it on the large scale. - Peter
For Awakening zone it's a "you may" ability.. my Esix runs eldrazi in the deck so the spawn help in ramping. I think this is more of a local meta thing, besides the Eldrazi the token spawns are also good for copying stuff like Eternal witness and the other myriad of green etb creatures.. I'm still looking for more spells that put 3 or more tokens on cast as those are the ones besides the avenger of zendikar andmyr battle sphere that increase the impact of the deck. I managed to snag 2 wins with bane of bala ged and echoing equation with 20 creatures on my board..

@@CommandValley creatures don't need to be destroyed to be regenerated though. It's similar to Nomads en-Kor not needing actual damage to redirect when activating that ability
That’s a good point about Nomads, but unfortunately Regenerate works by putting up a shield around the thing regenerating, and then if it would be destroyed the regeneration shield is used, and in the rulings for Spiny Starfish it specifies that the second ability cares about how many regeneration shields were used, not how many times regeneration shields were put on it. Hope that clears it up, and it’s definitely good in other strategies like one involving Goblin Sharpshooter, but doesn’t really work like that in this deck. - Peter
That's a really good observation I hadn't thought of. Means any effects that make Man-lands (e.g. half of the Nissa planeswalkers) are extra valuable in this deck
So it's a year later, but land cards that become creatures are not tokens so this doesn't work. The card from Brother's War that makes forest dryads does but not liege of the tangle.

I'm definitely working on making a red blue and green elf deck with this card and I'm already thinking of how this would be fun to use to make multiple wolverine riders every turn as it triggers with each players upkeep.
Arasta and Chasm don't work with Esix as Esix only makes tokens on YOUR turn not your opponents turns. Agent of Treachery, Scute Swarm, Craterhoof, Sakura Tribe, Diluvian Primordial are amazing creatures to include. Sakashima's Will is also another great way to make mass tokens.
Protection to think about adding. Spellskite, heroic intervention, sylvan safekeeper, and pretty much any of the staple counterspells. For token producers I'd add snake basket, orochi hatchery and maybe hullbreacher with a wheel sub theme. A good copy target would be elder gargaroth, solemn simulacrum, etc.

I don’t get the inclusion of the effects that make one token on upkeep. It takes away your usage of your first tokens being made

I don't agree that Brudiclad is strictly better. Brudiclad requires you to make token copies of nontoken creatures, Essix doesn't.
Panharmonicon should be included here too, it can work as another doubling season but would stack with to ETBs like avenger of Zendikar.
