That is wonderful, Rick. Getting a bit emotional. I love Bangor. I first heard of Bangor when I was in the fourth grade in Gorham, NH, and the teacher had us sing a song that had Bangor in it. I spent many happy years in Bangor and I miss my friends there. Ex-Bangorite, Rev. G

+Gerald Oleson thank you for the kind words...I'm sure Bangor misses you just as much as you miss Bangor. Many of the buildings depicted in my video were gone long before I was born. I have long been fascinated with how Bangor would look today had many of those buildings survived the fires, Urban Renewal, and the wrecking ball of a society trying to move forward. I have always been close with the generations before me, therefore I feel a very strong connection to Bangor's past. I am thrilled that you enjoyed this video - please check back in regularly, as I will be producing more as time goes on - and I do hope you come back one day for a visit!

There was a big fire in Bangor. I learned this in history when I used to live there.

In any of your future research, IF you EVER find any information on "The Red Bridge French Settlement" in Bangor, please let me know. My Nana lived on it from 1901 until 1916 and it was in the general area of Hogan Rd-State St-Meadowbrook Ln. I've only seen it referenced twice in any literature or documents. She said it was "very primitive" even for those times, and that it had its own school house, which she went to as a child. Again, really enjoyed your video.

+Day Drifter that is fascinating! I have somebody looking into your inquiry. I don't know how fast he can produce the result, but I'm confident he will find something. I saw a picture recently of a school house that was still standing when Bangor Water Works was being constructed, 1875 I think. In any regard, I highly recommend you to join the "You Knew You Grew Up In Bangor, Maine When" Facebook page. There are some serious collectors of historical photos on that page, and there are thousands of old Bangor photos stored there. Lots of stories to accompany them as well. I'll keep my eyes peeled and will be sure to keep you posted!
