Keep doing what you do Nick, after a weekend with you I first reduced my working week to 4 days from 5 and eventually left that job I hated to become an apprentice bushcraft instructor. Your woodland warrior programme helped me massively, more than I can ever explain.

Great to see you back on you tube. The value of spending time in the forest shouldn’t be underestimated, it’s been my go to reset and recover for many years and still is. Keep doing what your doing you are valued and make a difference. My copy of your book is in the post and I look forward to battling my dyslexia through to the last page.

I followed Nick on TH-cam for a long time. Fantastic knowledge, I remember seeing the old channel all starting with x royal marine , but for me , I always wanted to see Nick now and how he grows, this year I’ve seen positive changes to how he presents himself, a true gentleman and for sure one day I would like to shake his hand.

Found your channel from others covering similar survival and outdoor pursuits, but stayed to listen.....
There are a multitude of truths in your message and very often none of them are an easy pill to swallow.
I'm closing on 60 really fast. My own journey has had some sweet moments and some truly dark ones too.
I joined HM forces early. The 'Rambo-esq' story was prevalent.... ha... even before Rambo lol.
Service life was 80% training, 15% party and 5% waiting for the call.....
ANY service (civilian agencies too) person will have seen and done something that society doesn't want to talk about.... and many friends/family that try to listen fail to grasp the nuanced plea for help. And We as the 'Proud', Outwardly Confident (sometimes arrogant) and 'Hero' fail to pass the message clearly. We see it as a sign of failure, weakness or some other negative thing.
For me, depression, addiction, frustration and self destruction have been constant bed fellows.
I'm in a much better place now because I've somehow managed to have the right people in the right places. Some I found through 'help agencies', some I found through common threads and some I found by accident.
I would like to stress that while losing one's self confidence and discipline, or, perhaps it's better to say, putting them away for a while while you get help and support, it's vital that we rebuild those traits back (as much as is possible). As my old RSM used to say "Stand on your own two feet not mine".
We ALL need support from time to time, and, even if you don't want to appeal directly, go join a group or an activity where that support can seep into your soul by helping others.
    God bless all here

Hi Nick. I'll certainly be buying you book today buddy. I didn't really think about it but I had a 10yr stint in the emergency services and had my share of experiences. I totally get the dark humour aspect. An acquired taste and not one for more therapeutic job roles which I soon discovered! 😂 It's amazing the humans capacity to heal and with folks such as yourself out there you're making the world a better place. Much respect buddy.

Incredibly thought provoking words for Me the none combatant. It's easy to forget the security provided by British armed forces, and the price many soldiers pay.
Having had scoliosis as a child, and rheumatoid conditions in my teens left me feeling beyond low, feeling inferior. Yet discovering the outdoors, gaining my ML certification both summer and winter skills, gave me the kick up the arse I needed to feel positive about Me and other people. I'm really looking forward to your book which I've pre-ordered.

These are powerful words. I had my own moment 4 years or so ago. Not from service but in a high pressure role. I have grown since then and am back fully in control. But I know how my mental attitude changes on a weekly basis. I have the strategies that help me stay on the right but narrow path. Thanks Nick for the help you give others.

Sometimes it’s really awful other times all seems well , I suspect CNS stress induced .

    • @Hew.Jarsol
      @Hew.Jarsol ปีที่แล้ว

@@NickGoldsmith776 Thanks for the reply Nick. They've now concluded there's a link between PTSD/stress/anxiety and Tinnitus/Hyperacusis. Many things can induce it, but in our case PTSD likely did. It was all alien oblivious to me until I sought help. Some days are better than others as you know. Bring outdoors is a brilliant mask/distraction for Tinnitus though as you know. Some days it still brings me to tears though!
