- A very close study of two Thomas and Friends Take-N-Play sets. Load and Go and Rock Quarry Run. Both playsets present very nicely indeed. There is also a look at the Take-N-Play flexitrack and fold out bridge which needs a bit more work done to it to make it really useful.
An extensive crash investigation is here via the fail reel. Accidents can happen all the time when I am making my little videos.

Prices of toys in Australia seems to be so much more than the USA, the Australian dollar has been strong versus the US currency for a long period of time now, yet this strength in the Australian currency is not passed through to the consumers. The basic rule to remember is if you ever come to Australia for a holiday never buy toys here.

Man I loved these videos as a kid. Like most kids, I grew up with a tight birthday and Christmas time income so these videos always helped me plan out the best bang for my buck. I was 7 when these videos came out and now I’m a 20 year old who’s in their 3rd year of college. I want to say thank you to Leo for all the amazing memories you brought to my childhood. I learned how to detail my models and got into engineering because of all Thomas mods shown here. My mom thinking I was some kid genius because I learned how to make my trackmasters run on a 9V was a childhood favorite. Leo if you see this thank you for all the memories, and best wishes from California 🤙
Have a great Christmas, and thanks for watching my silly videos.
It's strange how when we are younger we seem to love the laughter when a train derails but when we start with electronic rolling stock we all hate derailments.
you mean 00 gauge?
haha true
@@mynameisjeff8301 not really just any electronic
@@minicraft3256 hello
Never Disappointing. Love these videos!
Well done Leo old chap. I must say, I'm ashamed at myself. I can't blame myself, but I was designed for speed. Happy Holidays Leo, and keep up the amazing work!
@trainboy7 for me the BIG fail of the Dieselworks is the two green legs which are not part of the set, it also seems to ride on the fact it's associated to a very popular Thomas film. In my mind there is limited play appeal in the Dieselworks. For just a little more you can have so much more fun with Load and Go.
How does this video have 1.5K dislikes?! This review is very helpful!
It would be nice to see a Thomas Take-N-Play set with that special 'hard working Thomas' from the inexpensive set instead of just a happy smiley Thomas and also having other characters then the blue engine himself. I agree about the price range here in Australia. I remember back in 2007 some parents in America were suing Learning Curve over the costing of the wooden railway toys. BTW have a Merry Christmas!
In 2012-4, I watched all the take n play for HOURS. This stands out to me for it being the first video I watched!
load & go = Thomas covered in radioactive waste
rock quarry run = thomas covered in rocks
it's called having a bit of fun so the audience enjoys the review
Another great video! I love your shot selections; they really tell the story. Merry Christmas!!
I like the slow motion sounds!
Excellent
Toy trains 4u, your videos and episodes are excellent ones
@@vincegrayson8039 not really
Leo, id like to thank you for all your Thomas reviews especially the take alongs and knock off Thomas's. Thanks to you, I know about low detail and how to sort it. I have the Load N Go playset, Flexitrack and Bridge.
@theTWmovie agree, load and go is great value for whats going on
Something that got my attention with this take n play set, it's modelled after a warehouse at Brendam Docks on the show, a house that is recognisable and at the same time underrated, and this set is the first time it's ever been replicated in toy form, so I give kudos to them for picking locations you wouldn't expect and expand upon it, as it does help attract fans who have eagle-eyes when it comes to the show (like me).
Happy Holidays Leo, have a good'n and see you in 2012 =)
leo, i love fail reel and its voice, you should do this in all of your videos
Merry Christmas! :)
The two main sets you reviewed in this video I found the quarry for $49.99 and the load and go had its name changed here to the slate loading station which was $29.99. we also picked up the sodor enginge wash (figure 8) for a mere $19.99. Look forward to more great videos in the future! Thanks!
A top quality production
@oldspice671 i love your channel name, for a moment i thought the old spice man had finally found me!
Leo, thanks. You've helped me see what these playsets are like. And thanks to the detailing advice.
My kids enjoy watching this. And thanks for the idea of using a Sharpie to define features. I don't think I would ever have thought of that. Good stuff to know before we shell out the cash.
@DiamondThomas the only big set I bought which really was very disappointing was the wooden set Racing Down the Rails
One of the best sets I have is the Tomy Ultimate Thomas Set, dates back to 2005 ish. If only we had sets like this done in Trackmaster
@MultiGreenThunder what it's so similar to is the lego version of flexitrack as well
I miss Take along/Take n play....
Train #4 You still Get Take alone toys From ebay
Yeah why is Thomas The Tank Engine here
All I want is a little red and running a snicker snicker snicker I will do The Shining give me the speed I really need streamline
Blunty reviews gadgets, you review toys. Perfect
HIT can always hit and miss with their sets, but big sets are always worth the money for me.
@pkwj1 yes, so it does make the Dieselworks seem strangely overpriced here in Australia, mind you from what I can see it has sold out everywhere
I like how you make little shorts before each video I love it!
I still keep finding parts of my Load N Go play set.
@ShuntingTank043 they are not full instructions!, and what happens when you trash the box??
why is this set missing the usual instruction sheet which has safety notices, consumer contact info and all the stuff instruction sheets come with, example is Rock Quarry Run and Dieselworks which both come with a full instruction sheet. my Totally Tidmouth set came with absolutely nothing as well.
from all the toys I buy the norm is to have instructions and contacts set up as a sheet or book
I'm gonna go with Rock Quarry Run.
Logan Best you have the same feeling as me i would have rock quarry run than any other.

Great Work Take-n-Play Thomas
I think Take N Play was the best. The settings were cool and they weren’t exactly based off real areas. Wooden Railway was also the best, but it doesn’t hold up with the sets I’ve seen in the 2010s and up, even with Wood being introduced.

I miss LeoKimvideo Trackmaster and taken play reviews The beginning with his skits were always funny and entertaining
@t4mercustomz years ago I bought a very large Tomy Ultimate set, and it came with a limited edition Thomas which has become one of my fav.
I have lost count of playsets which have a Percy or Thomas as the included character, i'm pretty sure having a special character in these sets would make them far more attractive to the kids. From what I have seen the Thomas kids know exactly what's going on in a playset and revel when a special character is included
I hate it when Leo obsesses over Devious Diesel, Spencer, Diesel 10 or any of the bad guys.
@SR3Dfilms i stupidly bought the bridge thinking i could do a over and under set up on my sons ever expanding take n play layout, well it's basically useless
if the legs on the bridge were just a little bit longer i would have zero complaint, but as I find toys can get away with design flaws all the time and no one seems to care, anyway kids don't have the power to complain
Custom Thomas' are really good to have
Hi, my son is a complete Thomas fanatic - 3 yrs old and he just loves your video's. The story at the beginning and the Fails & crashes his favorite parts of course :) Many thanks for the great and infotaining reviews!
@MasterOfTheLemons the way I see it rock quarry run would be great for a 3 to 4 year old, load and go would suit older children, the Dieselworks I feel works for all, my 2 year old son loves the Dieselworks even though those little green legs keep coming off, i'm very close to gluing them on!
I found the Rock Quarry Run set at a friend's house.
wow I think Your Friend Likes Thomas
wow that's so cool and i even got thomas at the farm from take n play and i even got brendam docks with salty dude good job spencer bro you the best driver of the world 😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗
Excellent Job bro.
When toys were actually good
@foxcell thanks, have a great Christmas
Eventhough I don't buy a take n play set, rock quarry run is a very must have set and I like it
I also like that you threw the bridge, the reviews, and the fail real.
Your good at customising ;D
1:08 he sounds like Billy Mays when he says that.
@4Corry yes, i have recently been given a massive amount of Thomas stuff, hopefully soon i will do a show and tell as there is some very unusual stuff
Merry Christmas Leo and great review!
0:46 - by steel, you mean metal.
@PixxyLixxx while your hear do you know about the Kiss Kruise, I only found out via the masses of video uploads hitting the tube, i see there is another slated for Halloween 2012
as sick as this sounds I feel I need to be on that boat...lol, i just wish Ace was part of the deal, as far as I am concerned he's the core sound of the band.
@Tardistraveller600 have a great one, not long to wait now
perhaps the reason we dont get any specal edition thomas with large sets is becsuse: 1# a child is expecting a normal thomas, but if they want say a dirty grit coverd thomas they can just go get the specal thomas without spending so much. 2# greedy toy makers. MERRY CHRISTMAS MATE!
Merry Christmas Leo!!! your videos are great!
Hey Leo, even though I have no interest in Thomas at all, I find your reviews very entertaining. Would you consider taking a look at the Lego Hero Factory Action Figures?
the take n play gordons snow special and percy`s sweet special also come with special engines great review and merry christmas leo
This is going to be fun
No one can go under the bridge
@1mymm i'm pretty sure if the trains could go under it would be a very worthy bit of kit to have, but it's a fail
having a over and under bridge is really important to have, it seems whoever designed this bridge did not look into making it a really useful bridge for the take n play fans
rip take n play with the smart manget 😔
@thomasmodelseries from what I can see Rock Quarry run is perfect for younger children due to it's roller coaster play action, Load and Go is better suited for slightly older kids because of the duty style play it has.
As for the Dieselworks, hmmmmmm I would give that a miss, it's not really a set I see my son key into when comparing it to the other take n play's he has
@ToaCelon549 well Flynn is a road vehicle and he's one of the biggest take n play's there is, he' so big he could eat this bridge for breakfast because there is no chance he's going under it!
HOOT AND TOOT!!
@legomaster1378 thats a first request for Hero Factory! I will look into it but I fear as with so many branches of LEGO it's not a popular item to look at.
I have found the lego audience very hard to impress, and sadly lots of troublemakers have come from the lego ranks on youtube, the price of lego where i live is basically out of control so this has me wondering if i should even continue looking at lego.
@larzgallows ah, scare bear...lol Merry Christmas
@TheHigginsTribe thanks, hope your Christmas is a great one
Cool. - John Oliver
@MKWFreeze1 if that bridge had a little bit more thought put into it i would have no reason to complain, sadly i see lots of this sort of stuff going on in the toy world
not being a over and under bridge left me speechless, i can only class it as a hill
I like the rock quarry run set
@theNinjastar27 thanks, have a great Christmas
Hi, brother: Nice video! Thank you for everything during the whole year. If you stand by us, Poem and I will sing Merry Christmas for you... Hope everything with you is great next year. Poem and Derek
Honest reviews are the best
Nice leo im saif Im your biggest fan so let me help you
they look good
you need to use that fail reel music more often.
@ToaCelon549 you know if it has just a little bit more thought put into it it would be a over and under bridge
now how simple would that be..??
and imagine the uses a bridge like that would have, you could really start making some great layouts
I think the load and go presents the best value. It has size, height, and no sharp bends so long engines can fit on it. I'm actually having 2nd thoughts about buying my diesel works (BTW I got mine for about 30 dollars in the US at Target). I'm thinking about getting a load and go and building my own dieselworks Mk2.
Fail Reel: Rekt Rekt SO MUCH REKT
With the Cobi Doctor Who sets I often find myself having to add extra details onto the Daleks as they are completely plain. The characters are just taller than standard Lego minifigures.
Hey Leokimvideo,
My son and I just recently got heavy in to Thomas and we love to watch your videos! We also love to try and replicate the "fail reel" voice. We are slowly but surely building up our collection of Take N Play Thomas. They are very inexpensive as we live in Kentucky. short trains are $5.99, bigger trains like Belle, Ferdinand, and Diesel 10 run $9.99-$11.99, pull and zooms and talking trains are about $14.99.
@HankAmericanEngine lol, your channel name is perfect, Hank is a fine looking take n play model, he's another monster of the rails
@FrederikPrime17 thanks, have a great Christmas
My gut says there's either a gaggle of trolls like Leo said, people who aren't much of a fan of Thomas who feel the need to sour the mood, or perhaps people who aren't fans of these playsets.
I like you're videos
@DJDriveus Have a great Christmas, not long to go now
merry christmas ;-)
your fale reels are halarious
Oh the nostalgia…
@Emmatt44 i was reciently at a large model railway expo and it was interesting to see how the owners of the layouts dealt with derailments, it was for them a really serious thing to have happen, when I watch my son play with trains all he wants to see is crashes
sort of sad how you so easily forget the beauty of being a kid where disaster is pure entertainment
OH
@ShuntingTank043 well it's a shame there is still so much box bloat and boxing which is far bigger than the toy inside..!
every toy needs good instruction and consumer info sheet as a minimal requirement, most are printed on a single A4 piece of paper
yep i saved the environment and the box was sent to the recycling yard, now I have no info about the product at all
I was thinking of geting the dieselworks playset but after seeing this I started thinking this over abit =P
@scoobsterinc the bridge is a fail, it should be a over and under style bridge out of the box, this sort of poor design really annoys me, sadly I see loads of it in the toy world
I like load and go
@leokimvideo Yes, Exactly, the sets like the 100 pieces sets would come with destinations and different engines and you would get great deals on them. Trackmaster is now the only Thomas toy source to a big set without any flaws. nowadays you really can't get large wooden or Take n Play set without 5 or 6 flaws.
