    Great video. I may have to replace the AC on my in-laws Keystone Springdale. If doing this solo, it might be a good idea to mark the outline of the old box on the roof to make it easier to line up the new one before going inside. Maybe use frog tape or painters tape?

    Thanks for a really interesting and helpful video. I am going to change out my Coleman Mach 10 a/c unit in the next week or so and wanted to ask if I should put some type of sealant on the bottom of the rubber gasket located on the bottom of the new a/c unit where it will sit on the roof to prevent possible water intrusion, what are your thoughts on doing that?

    • @hillbillyrv
      @hillbillyrv  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t put anything under it. Put it down dry.

    • @GeoffPalmer-l7o
      @GeoffPalmer-l7o ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the advice and I will put down dry as stated, I am however not 100% sure that there may not be something else causing the compressor not to start on my 5 year old Coleman Mach 10 15,000btu unit, the fan runs but when I try to start it on the generator it stalls the generator and when I run it on shore power it doesn’t start but hums for a few seconds then stops and a few seconds later tries to start again but hums again then stops. I have changed out the three capacitors and checked the ones I took off and they were all ok, do you think it could be something other than needing a new a/c unit?@@hillbillyrv

    Thank you for the video RV air conditioners run to average about 80 to 90 lb that would be empressive for a young man. LOL I'm preparing 2 swap mine out and I've been looking for how to get the thing up there without destroying one or the other and I never would have thought of that but it looks like I've got a plan now. thanks again and good work I'm impressed

      The most important step is taping the sections of ladder together to keep the upper section from sliding up. I used this exact method for almost 25 years without a mishap. Probably 200-250 ACs.

    Great video, I’m doing the exact job on our 2022 Puma. Our Coleman Mach unit died with maybe 50 hours of use, of course two weeks out of warranty. The compressor kicked on but barely cooled. We diagnosed as low Freon. Everything electrical checked out. Question, the temperature probe, does it matter which terminal plugs in which side? Both are blue terminals. I don’t think it matters but I wanted to confirm it. I hope the new replacement unit matches up like yours did in the video. Thanks!

    When removing and installing these units, even for an older one like mine where it would have to be pulled for a roof replacement. Does it hurt these units when you turn them on the side or flip them over? I have always been told never to turn ac's or even fridges on their sides due to the oil collecting in the wrong place and locking up the compressor.

    • @hillbillyrv
      @hillbillyrv  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have always heard the same thing. It is nearly impossible to remove or install them without turning them on their side, but I keep it to a minimum and I never put a good AC on it's top.

    I am planning to change out my 5 year old Coleman Mach 10 15,000btu roof a/c unit but am not 100% sure that the problem is with the a/c unit. When I try to get it to cool I start it and the fan runs but when the compressor tries to kick in it stalls my 3.6kw generator or if I’m on shore power the compressor just hums for a few seconds then stops and a few seconds later tries to start again but hums again for a few seconds then stops again. I have changed out the three capacitors in the a/c unit but when I tested the old ones they all appeared to be in range, do you think it could be something other than the a/c unit needing replacing?

    Thanks so much for the helpful video. I just ordered this AC unit as the compressor on ours died in our 2017 Heartland Wilderness 2850BH. I was wondering if I will have to change the control box or if I can just reuse the one that's in it currently. Also, will the freeze sensor be something I need to swap over to the new unit? Thanks again!

    • @hillbillyrv

      If your control and freeze sensor is ok, yes you can reuse it. I usually install a new control with a new AC.

    That was worth the price of admission. I enjoy watching this stuff and picking up knowledge and tips.

    What would the weight of that ac be? 80 pounds or so.

      Thanks Robert. He actually did everything, but the heavy lifting on one last week and for some reason, I didn't video it. We have 2 more to do tomorrow. I plan to video him doing 1 of them. He is only 15 and not my kid, so I don't want to break him, so I will probably continue the heavy stuff for a while. 80-110 lbs depending on manufacture and model.

    • @hillbillyrv

    What were your original symptoms? I have a 2 month old RV with a Mach 10. I'm getting a coil 1 freeze and a coil 1 thermistor invalid, warning. I put in a working thermistor and within 2 minutes got the same warning. Both thermistors now seem defective (1 kohm resistance at 100 degrees f, instead of the 6 expected. I assume my control board is killing the thermistors?

    No reason to change out the control box unless there is a mechanical part like a relay or solenoid that wears out after a certain number or years. Most current electronics would outlive the RV itself.
