I'm playing Graces F right now and i'm having a blast, i'm also really interested in Yumia since i love the Atelier franchise, they're a fine example that you don't need an epic plot or extremely evil villains to make a good story
Question: how long does Tales of Graces F take? I finished Romancing Saga 2 last night and I have 3 weeks between now and Daybreak II releasing. I want to give the tales series another try, ever since I bailed on Beseria two years ago.
I loved this video! Seeing you talk about the Suikoden Remasters got me pumped up. Your pronunciation of it was good by the way. I am the opposite to you in that I haven't played Lunar; so these Remasters will be my introduction. One game that I am hyped for is Quartet. The demo for it was great! Edit: The original Gensou Suikoden is what made me a JRPG fan.
This is probably going to be the best year for JRPgs since the last golden age of PS2. Paradoxically, I have concerns whether this abundance of choice will not cause sales to suffer. After all, will each of us be able to buy everything we want this year? I assume most won't.
Hope Clair Obscur delivers, everything i seen about this game looks fantastic, and it also has a really good price tag Seeing things like a overworld map really shows how passionate these devs are about this project Rune Factory looks really cool, it having action gameplay reminds me of the one on the PS3, and of Sakuna which i really loved I'm also really looking forward to Lost Soul Aside My first jrpg was Folklore on the PS3, to this day one of the most unique games in the genre
Hey Shinky, Great list, I would add Fantasy Life i and Monster Hunter Wilds! fun time is coming up! My first JRPG you say? well Dragon Warrior is the first :)
It's looking even better for rpg, and last year was a good year for the genre. I like Atelier games, but after the last Ryza entry I'm not sure, i didn't have the same amount of enjoy like i did with the other 2. I'm actually pretty excited for the new Rune factory, i tried the 4 but i didn't enjoy the systems I felt them weird and janky. And I'll like to also mention Fuga melodies of steel 3, the closure for some of the most underrated games i know (they're awesome!). And there's this curious one that I just found out about, Kamibako. I have never played Lunar, are the random encounters? I'm not a fan of them, the only game I completed with random encounters was Digimon cyber sleuth/Hacker's memory because you can use a skill to reduce the encounters by a lot 😂
Fuga Melodies of Steel 3 is the JRPG I'm the most hyped up for this year, and they just announced it a couple days ago. Back in the day CyberConnect2 were known for a series called .hack which was this massive multimedia series that was based around a couple sets of multi volume games, 3 to 4 per story arc. Well Fuga is another multi volume set of games from them that's part of their more niche Little Tail Bronx series which was started by their first game Tail Concerto. It's really awesome to see them back to doing this again after being typecast as an anime game developer for a good decade. The LTB series deserved way more respect than Bandai gave it, and now that CC2 is self publishing Fuga and future entries in the LTB series it finally is. I'm really looking forward to the conclusion to this trilogy and seeing what they'll do for LTB going forward. I'm also hoping they can somehow bring .hack over to their self publishing as well and continue that series in some form as well.
Xenoblade X is it's own thing that - as far as we know - doesn't tie into the rest of the Xeno series lore or story-wise, but more carries over gameplay ideas. I'm pretty much picking up everything you listed here, I'm especially excited about the Lunar collection, because I've never actually played Lunar 2!
There are 7 games I am absolutely committed to playing in 2025: Trails through Daybreak II, Lunar I & 2, FUGA 3, Trails in the Sky First Chapter remake, and Dragon Quest I & II remaster. I want to make the time for Suikoden I & II if at all possible, but I've been really curious about the Lunar games for decades now, ever since I missed out on playing them way back in the 90s. I just finished Romancing Sage 2 Revenge of the 7 last night, and it's an excellent game. Three weeks till Daybreak II releases, what do I play next to fill in that time?
@@Shinky I'm probably going to go with Tales of Graces F. I tried Berseria a couple of years ago and I didn't care for it, and I've wanted to give the Tales series another try before I decide if I's for me or not. Is Tales of Graces F easy to get into and play? How long does it take to finish?
The short answer with Xenoblade X is we don't know. Lots of fun theories, but the new game content may or may not clarify that. I'm gonna have my hands full this year between Trails through Daybreak 2, Xenoblade X, Atelier Yumia, Guardians of Azuma, Trails in the Sky Remake and Fate/Extra Record. As for my first jrpg... I think if we're saying Pokemon's allowed, it was definitely Pokemon Yellow. It's either that or the Mega Man Battle Network series. If we're ignoring the super entry level stuff, Luminous Arc 2 on the DS!
I adore the Xenoblade series so X:DE is a no brainer for me. But I'm most hyped for Rune Factory GoA, it looks like everything I wanted 5 to be but with an Eastern twist. The rest I'm not sure about yet, I have no attachment to any of the other games getting remakes, remasters or sequels so they are kind of low priority right now. But that Yakuza pirate game sounds cool if they can really pull off the pirate feel and naval combat (never played a Yakuza game).
I’m still way behind when it comes to the Yakuza franchise (finished 3 over the holiday season) but I’m interested because Majima is my favorite character in that series
Hey man! Awesome video, just discovered you! Always good to see a fellow awesome small RPG channel! Question: why do you think crafting systems don't promote explanation? Cuz less treasure chests? Sorry I didn't really pick up on that 😅😅
I feel like in crafting games, treasure chests just end up with crafting items you already have a ton of already, killing the need to hunt them out. Making it feel pointless to explore for them. That’s just me though
day 1 buys for me so far are Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma - was never super into RF but I was instantly sold by the first trailer and everything since has just made it seem all the better. Hundred Line Last Defense Academy - I am a disgusting Danganronpa superstannie and this looks like a blast. Lunar - I was already planning on emulating these games this year! they look beautiful and they're obviously classics. I'm also really looking forward to Phantom Brave, Atelier Yumia, Xenoblade X, Sky remake, and the Suikoden remasters. Atelier and Xenoblade are some of my very favorite series, but part of that is that I know the games will be good whenever I get to them. I actually really like crafting depending on the loop, I find it sooo addicting!!! and my first JRPG was Pokemon Blue, I think I can recognize that years later it's part of why I love JRPGs so much. I also think we're getting way more JRPGs announced at the Switch 2 showcase
@Shinky I think it was 50 digital and 55 physical. For me that's too much for a remaster. I think 40 would have been better. I only played Silver Star story as a kid, but I loved it.
The game that got me into JRPGs was Tales of Graces F on PS3. No surprise im hyped for the rest of the remaster project! I didnt know they were rereleasing Trails in the Sky so maybe thats my chance to jump into the series!
If you haven't played Suikoden 1&2 then I envy you. I'm 39 and I've been playing Jrpgs since I was 13 but for me personally nothing has come close to the mastery of this game. Unfortunately 3,4 and 5 aren't as good.
The new problem with starting with Sky FC now is that it’s TOO nice and new and the other games will feel super dated by comparison 😭 especially cold steel 1
I’ve been gaming since 1998 and i will confidently say 2024 was the best year ever for JRPGs (for me). Metaphor, P3 Reload, Unicorn Overlord, SMT5: Vengeance, Shadow of the Erdtree, Dragon Quest 3 etc etc. Just phenomenal. Unfortunately I’m looking forward to absolutely no JRPGs in 2025 so far, but here’s to hoping we receive more news on Dragon Quest XII, Persona 6 and the next Fire Emblem.

I hope kai or kai 2 comes out this year. My first jrpg was probably Final Fantasy IV on the snes.
Lunar Remastered and suikoden 1 and 2 were some of my fave RPGs from my childhood. So ready to get them on switch and get eyudien chronicles as well
I’m excited to play Suikoden for the first time

I’m so happy to see people loving Graces F, and yes Atelier is great for that! They’re super unique in that sense
Graces is awesome

@@SuperSupersoda You can beat Graces F in less than 3 weeks as long as you're not going for a 100% playthrough

My release calender is PACKED the coming months! So many great RPG's are coming this year
Please dear God stop! I have an unreasonable long list of backlog! I am in middle of metaphor refantazio and just preordered Expedition 33
That’s how I feel. I haven’t caught up on last year yet!

Jrpg games taught me how to grind in life. I own around 100 Jrpg games from Switch, 3dsXL and PS Vita. 😮
Oh I feel this sentiment, I’d say about 80% of my collection is JRPGs and that collection is upwards of 1000 games at this point.
The Touch release is brilliant, but the best way to play SSSC is with the Unworked Designs patch and either Mednafen/Beetle or Duckstation.
I’d say touch on a Mac using controller support or on an android portable like the retroid. But that’s also a great option
