I understand what you are saying and agree with you but how do I successfully build my list? I can’t get anyone to give an email address except for those who won’t ever be a client.

First, you need a marketing channel/platform.
And you need an incentive to join your email list.
What makes you think people who give an email will never be a client? I haven't seen that be the case in 26+ years online building businesses and working with thousands of entrepreneurs. We've built lists of prospects and some (not all) turn into paid clients/customers.

@ thank you for the quick response! I have been gathering emails for three years and have 30. I do offer freebies, such as checklists and very short how-to’s. The people who give me their email address, are businesses who want to know what I’m doing. My clients are typically in crisis mode and forget to find me. I feel like this is so negative and I’m not a negative person by nature! Lol.
