Let us not forget the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. This album always makes me think of the salvation He made possible for those who simply believe. The gift of grace, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
    Awesome album!

As overtly Christian music, perhaps it is inevitable that this album won't get anything like the exposure it deserves. But it contains some wonderfully haunting, beautiful, well written and well played tracks - that have stood the test of time. So wonderful to be able to come back to this album after so many years after when I first heard and bought it. An outstanding classic in the annals of "progressive" Christian discography.

What most people don't understand is the Christian Music Industry from the 70s and 80s and 90s was the left of center leaning sect of Evangelical Christianity until it became way Corporatized so I stopped listening after mid 90s. I used to work in Family Bookstore in the 90s and when I recommended this album, some people were really confused and thought it was "new age music" because it wasn't the Amy Grant/Steven Curtis Chapman type Nashville stuff that was predominant in that industry.

Not only were the members all amazingly talented, but Jo's voice to me, has always been a shining light of hope... She never felt the need to make her voice conform to that horrible machine that is the pop music industry, with all it's growls, hip-singing etc etc. I just adore her pure vox...

Saw them live at Greenbelt first. This tape was always a go-to in the car, but really picked up special meaning when on a trip to Mull and Iona. Very atmospheric stuff! Saw them again at a packed Band on the Wall in Manchester, where they successfully recreated the exact same atmosphere-in a smokey club! Consummate musicians, one and all.

Love this album, such a masterpiece,my wife and I bought it back in 95 with some money we recieved from our wedding, deep and powerful, one time I was sitting listening to it in my car and my daughter who was about 4 at the time was in the back seat and I heard her crying and I looked around and she had tears streaming down her face and I asked what's wrong and she said this music is so sad😢,bless her heart,it must have really touched her spirit.

I love that comparison with Clannad. Clannad, though I love them, and even went to see Maire (Moya) Brennan in Massachusetts, are kind of categorized in the media as world/celtic. I love how Iona blends the traditional, with the prog/rock, as you say, Clannad on steroids!

I heard this when a friend told me i had to listen to it before i could return it. Rarely, am i given a "must" listen or read, for that matter, that i enjoy. BUT, WOW, 30 years ago i played this in my car and sat in my car in my garage to finish it before i could get out of the car. I could tell you that the music and words were important to me because of all i was going thru or that i was less than 2 years old in the Lord but the truth is i had never heard "Christian music" that was so ...this...! I forgot the name of this work but the algorithm of youtube gave to me the suggestion of watching something about the Kells, and instantly i remembered," that's the name of that album...!" So many favorites. Thank You Lord for your gifts including music, you are Blessed and you alone are Worthy of our praise and thanksgiving and worship.

I had the rare privilege of seeing Iona live in New England, back in the days of this albums' release. For this album, the story goes that the band went to see the wonderful illustrated manuscripts of the Book of Kells, and in meditating on the historical context of these monks' dedication and faith, were inspired to write these songs.

Your lyrics are pure poetry--and 100 percent from the heart. "Here's my life, I hold nothing back from you." And I ❤ how you address your cry to Our Lord as "Master of the Waves." The music fits perfectly, too. It reminds me of Tori Amos, Leslie Phillips (The Turning), and Rich Mullins (song called 52:10), even Joanne Hogg from the band Iona.

@@gollumei Iona has most of their albums on Spotify. Whether or not one supports the business model of Spotify, they do have albums I would not have access to. Mark Heard and Larry Norman for example. Spotify was mostly demonized because of the Joe Rogan association when people wanted to cancel him during Covid. Taylor Swift's criticism that Spotify doesn't pay enough for the artists is up to debate because the music industry had already changed and most people were using Napster and Torrentz to download music for free prior to streaming services. I've discover artists on spotify that I would have never discovered on my own. Royal Blood, Fionn Regan, etc. How well do the other streaming services pay the artists?
