    I love this "just focus on catching fish". People focus on trying to min/max their gear without working on understanding how/where to make the right presentation. Once you get to the point where you're consistently getting bites and you start missing/losing fish, then you can start optimizing the rod/reel/line.

    well, this is good timing. I'm reviewing my gear and getting ready for pre-spawn fishing. Chatterbaits are my favorite option, followed by Texas Rigs. Every year I try to improve and refine my equipment and skills and you are one of my favorite pros for educational content. Good luck this coming tourny season.

    Yes I love the 7ft2 mh graphite rod for a chatterbait. I use a bit stiffer of a rod than that one though, so I don't slam the hookset, I just lean a little and reel fast.

    • @BrianLatimerFishing
      @BrianLatimerFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There’s no such thing actually! A bass is a bass no matter where you fish and how you fish for them or how long you’ve been a fisherman! It’s all the same. Keep it simple. Every video I make is for bank guys, boat guys, kayak guys, beginners and experienced anglers. When I go kayaking I use the same baits as when I fish for 100k and when I go bank fishing I use the same stuff that I do when I go bass fishing otherwise.

    I throw them on the same type of rod I use for spinnerbaits and the buzzbait. A 7’2” MH that has more of a moderate fast action rather than fast. I have a 7’4” MH that is more moderate in action I might try them on some time as well. My thinking is that I typically fish them in a similar way and with similar size hooks/weights as the spinnerbait.

      Try the big blade chatterbait in black and blue with a 5 or 6 inch fluke trailer in Junebug color. I got 2 40+ inch pike on it last year, a bunch in the 36 inch range, and a lot of bass over 3.5 pounds.
      It's a workhorse bait in low light or murky water, especially if you're bouncing it off of cover. Just change the snap on the blade to a heavier one and it'll be amazing for you.

    B Lat, do you have any tips on spooling straight flouro? No matter the brand of line or how I spool it I always seem to get backlashes that I can’t get out. I’ve switched everything to braid to leader, but it would be much more efficient if I could throw straight flouro in a reel.

    • @LouisJr.
      @LouisJr. ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! What weight chatterbait & rod strength are you using? The chatterbait your using might be too light or baitcaster reel not setup right.

    • @brandonwalmsley1863
      @brandonwalmsley1863 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LouisJr. I typically throw a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jackhammer with 15-17 lb flouro. It has more to do with me spooling the line myself than the gear. It’s inevitable for a backlash, so I throw braid to leader on everything to avoid it.

    I personally use a Dobyns Champion 734 and absolutely love it for this particular presentation. You get the best of both worlds using this rod because it is a heavy action rod but still maintains a very parabolic, softer action to let the bait do what it needs to do. Tight lines 👍

Question; what’s the best species to target in Kiawah Island?? This is vacation year for me and since seeing one of your videos of the ‘low country’ there in SC, I watched something on Netflix that mentioned Kiawah Island so I decided to take a look (after seeing that beautiful videography of the Low Country in your video) and I’ve been pitching it to my brother to give it shot this year - we’d be chartered of course.

    I will say, there was a day on Okeechobee where I was fishing a green chatterbait. I had 2 short strikes (took the tail and jerked the trailer down on the hook) and two more fish follow me to the boat. i then switched to black and blue, and they started choking it. Color was all that was changed. Okeechobee is a lake that those dark colors are sometimes needed though.

    I have used chatter baits on medium lights, medium crankbait, and med hvy rods with the medium lights being the only rod that struggled with hook sets. If the fish was 2lb and less then it was good but anything over I've always lost the fish at the boat or coming in. I never really notice a difference in fast, mod action, and x fast. Lost and landed fish about the same ratio. If they nip and it and I see it, usually slowing down the retrieve works for me.

    I've never been told to use a trailer hook on a chatter-bait.
    Do you use a trailer hook? Should you?
    I've had using a trailer hook on a spinner bait or buzz-bait drilled into me like it was the gospel, but I've never heard anyone say to use it on a chatter-bait.
    It's a similar lure, fish swipe at it and miss or barely get skin hooked all the time. So, my question is, Why?
