Zen Arcade is my favourite that they made👍🏻
That's a popular one in this comment section, I'll be checking it out
I really enjoy their cover of "Eight Miles High."
Noted, I'll check it out
Zen Arcade and New Day Rising , both 10/10 records from Husker Hu, also you should check "Beaster" an EP from Sugar the band Bob Mould formed some years later after the end of Husker Du
Yeah im gonna be going through those two albums, they've been recommended a LOT
Zen Arcade.
That's a Husker Du album, right?
Yes.
Cool record store!
It's been said you should check the husker Du albums before everything falls apart.
Beware of Replacements fans if you slander the Tim album! Also another Minneapolis band with punk roots that went on to major label success.
Well, if I don't like something, I definitely won't say I do just to not make soft ass fans unhappy, lol. I think.i remember liking The Replacements, tho, so we'll see. I'll be diving into more Husker Du, as well
Hey, here's a bit late comment about the topic, I'm a Husker Du fan who is not mad at you because you have a different opinion than mine about the band, haha. I get it, I didn't like New Day Rising when I first heard it, then it was like OK, I like one song from the album, later it was oh I like 3 songs from the album and then I started to appreciate the album more. And even now when I think that it's a pretty good album, there are few songs that are just meh to me. Also I get that some Husker Du fans who are more into hardcore punk, like more the earlier period and people who are more into post hc/punk, like more the later period. I like all periods of the band but I suggest that if you still want to check out more of Husker Du, go into the records chronologically. First Land Speed Record LP, In a Free Land EP, Everything Falls Apart LP., Metal Circus EP, Zen Arcade duble LP and if you start to like the band at that point, listen to New Day Rising LP. And then if you start to like New Day Rising, check out the last three LP's. Hopefully this can help you get into Husker Du because I think that they are a great band.
Awesome shirt today, my dude! I just recently got into ASteel and they’re sadly underrated, Everything they’ve released hits so good in its own way.
Anyhow, Zen Arcade is a 9.5/10. Everything Falls Apart is a 9/10 -Husker du
I LOOOOVE American Steel! I'm gonna check out more Husker Du, it was my idea in the first place. People too dang sensitive
@@thepunkrockreview yeah I read some comments, my thought was “why do people care so much if you consider HD punk or not”??
“Really, it’s just music, after all “ -Goldfinger
The New York Dolls aren't punk in the same way that cheese isn't pizza. Land Speed, Everything Falls Apart, and Zen Arcade are essential Husker Dü.
Husker du "land speed record", "everything falls apart" and "metal circus" are the punk records its around the time they were on SST so had that SST sound (produced by spot etc).
Just found this channel the other day and started watching stuff. Saw the New Day Rising video yesterday and didn't think your buddy made a good case for Husker Du. New Day Rising is when they started to become what we eventually called alternative rock. Their early stuff is definitely hardcore punk, no dispute about that--they were very influence by early Bad Brains after touring with them. Husker Du was constantly changing their sound and you were first exposed to their period that doesn't match your taste. It would be like someone saying "check out this punk band The Clash" and then they played the album Sandinista for you. You'd be like "this isn't punk". Or "check out this thrash band Metallica" and they play you the Black Album or worse, Load/Reload. Based on the stuff I've seen you listen to, I bet you'll love the first part of their discography. Start at the beginning: Land Speed Record, Everything Falls Apart, and Metal Circus EP and work your way through to Zen Arcade. To many of us Zen Arcade is their peak, but they started to move away from hardcore at that point. 100% it will be like when you started listening to the Clash later in life.
This is the kind of comment i appreciate, thank you. I'll definitely take your advise, too!
@@thepunkrockreview Yeah, I do hope you give their first four releases a chance--I recommend to listen to them in order of release if possible. Land Speed Record is a live album as well, it's killer for a live hardcore album recorded in 1981. I just watched your AFI/Pennywise video and I think AFI has a bit of similarities with Husker Du in how they changed their sound to other genres later on in their career. Thought about how if I had heard Sing the Sorrow or Decemberunderground first, I would probably hate the band, rather than getting into them in their hardcore and horrorcore phases. Luckily I saw them in 1999 (I think) on tour when I was like 15 and that's the band I remember rather than the gothy stuff that came later. Hope to see your follow up video "Does Husker Du Suck?", then we can really argue. haha
While the style of Dylan’s music is not something I normally listen to .. his lyrics were friggin incredible the stuff he talks about. Lots in common with punk music.
A lot of genres have a lot in common with punk. Kinda my point, tbh. But I mean, I've been very open to trying almost any kind of music, same with this band. I'm not afraid of changing my opinion of something ✌️
Land speed record, everything falls apart and metal circus
Those are getting a lot of votes, gonna have to add them to the list!
Ironically, Leatherface is very Husker Du inspired. The album I would recommend for you is "Everything Falls Apart". It's their most straight forward punk sounding LP. Avoid "Warehouse Songs and Stories" and probably "Flip Your Wig". And I agree, the New York Dolls are not punk.
I do find it hilarious that i love Leatherface and not Huskur Du. But Rancid has been my favorite band and I only started liking the first 2 Clash records 3 months ago. I like what I like, people too damn sensitive 🤷🏻 lol
Getting on TH-cam to whine about how Hüsker Dü fans were reacting to your opinion of New Day Rising while listening to The Criminals is quite hilarious! Listen to the song "Scene Monkey" off that album to find out what I'm talking about.
PS. I dig your American Steel shirt.
Thank you. It is all hilarious and kinda silly. But I love talking music, not just stuff I enjoy. But yeah, that is a HILARIOUS observation 🤣 I mean, I'm open to changing my mind about things but I will just poke at them bc it makes me laugh. They don't even know me or what I'm about, so I don't care if they are mad. Also, American Steel is awesome!
@@thepunkrockreview It's all petty no matter how you slice it. Did you ever get a chance to see American Steel and/or The Criminals live?
Even the hate watchers bring views & push ya in the algorithm so, bring it 😂 Hüsker Dü is defo these sub genres: post-hardcore, punk, and alt rock. Call them noise pop and you aren't far off. They started out diy punk & swerved alt!
I suggest Warehouse: Songs & Stories
All punks are gatekeepers so, you'll never be a punk anyway Randall! Lol.
Keep the engagement & comments coming, tell me how not punk I am, cos I love it 😅 ❤
Lol, my dude. Thanks Cinci 👊😎🏴☠️
🤘🏼
Land Speed Record for hardcore/punk Hüsker
That's a popular recommendation, I'll be checking it out!
Hey I'm 42 also! I never really could get into their sound, but I do appreciate the history. Because I'm a total punk rock nerd I definitely know all the band members names even though I don't care for their music.
Please message me if you decide to sell the Broadway's LP I'm interested
Zen Arcade or Everything Falls Apart. Flip your Wig is a lot more poppy but I like it a lot. Flip your Wig has that song you played the other night "Makes No sense at all". I honestly think you should check out FLIP YOUR WIG and listen to SUGAR "Copper Blue".
New York Dolls isn't punk and neither was Iggy Pop and the Stooges.
I agree, but a lot of people tell me they are/were punk. I just thought it'd be funny to say that, knowing someone would get all hot and bothered by it. I'll check out your recommendations
I 1,000,000% agree with you that Husker Do and The New York Dolls ARE NOT punk.
For my band/album recommendation I suggest Fenix Tx and their self titled album from 1999.
Husker du isn't punk but go listen to some Fenix TX? Yeah ok 🤣
Woah don't bring the new York dolls into this
@Richie - Well, i was asking for Husker Du recommendations. I'm from Houston, I know FenixTX very well. They're not really punk, either. I'd say Husker Du is more punk, even, as it's not just about sonic sounds. But I appreciate your involvement in what we're doing!
NYDolls suck so hard
