  • Lumatone is a game-changing instrument for keyboard players, film composers, beatmakers, producers, and microtonal composers. Powered by centuries-old music theory and modern design ingenuity, the Lumatone is all at once intuitive to play, fully programmable, and endlessly creative.

    the dissonance in microtonal music is just so good.

      There is no dissonance in good microtonal music. Initially built in harmony, it flows and curls. Listen to Turkish authors for example. The main mistake of many Western composers is that they try to include individual microtonal elements into a melody built in a chromatic system. But we need to go beyond the limits of the chromatic structure with our minds. (sorry, machine translation)

      @Mikhail_Chupryna there is no dissonance at all! only closer or more distant overtones

    I simply have to get one of these, but they’re SO expensive. Here’s hoping a more affordable model comes to market in the future, or I can find a buyer for a kidney.

    • @GMJ7320
      @GMJ7320 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +61

      Yep, $3500 for a keyboard is an INSANE markup, theres no way the silicon hexagons, motherboard, speakers and plastic cover could add up to nearly that much

    • @xyshomavazax
      @xyshomavazax 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GMJ7320 I assume they’re not selling a lot of these, so it’s understandable what the markup is. Gotta survive, and if you’re only moving a few a month (presumably), you need that markup to pay for all the things needed to keep the business afloat. No one gets rich on boutique music instruments .. actually, NO ONE who builds instruments gets rich. I’ve been in this business for 25 years, and have yet to find someone who was rich who didn’t have numerous other investments.

      God I know. I want one SO BADLY, the trouble is, I have no way of knowing if I’ll like it. Making microtonal music has always been a real pain. I don’t fault them for the price - I understand it’s well made and in VERY small batches. It’s not hard to imagine that being more more expensive to make than something like a keyboard, where there are so many choices for Keybeds.

      @grandarsonist7960 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +37

      @GMJ7320 yknow, I used to think that before trying to design my own haha. The more I look into it the more the price tag makes sense. Consider how many keys there are, and how many velocity sensitive switches there are. That shit really add up when you have hundreds of notes

    • @romeolz
      @romeolz 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +33

      trust me, the price adds up REAL FAST
      every one of the 280 buttons has:
      high quality led's,
      a spring,
      a magnet paired with a hall effect sensor,
      and a pressure sensitive compressible material for polyphonic aftertouch
      and think of all the work that goes to building one of these (they're built by hand)
      i'm building a custom isomorphic keyboard (~250 keys) with inexpensive replacement technologies (that means no polyphonic aftertouch, less range, etc.) and it's STILL going to cost ~300$ in parts alone

      @@Fire_Axus other EDOs have their own unique feel and are great in their own way. For example, 19edo has virtually pure minor 3rds and major 6ths and is close to the historical 1/3-comma meantone tuning. 22edo is a superpythagorean tuning and has really good JI approximations up to the 11-limit for being such a small EDO (however, it has a poor 13th harmonic).
