Learning Lumatone: Ep. 35 - "Wicki-Hayden Basics"
มุมมอง 4.1K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lumatone is all about seeing music differently and inspiring performances you wouldn’t have played on a traditional piano layout. We do this by visualizing notes and intervals in new and inspiring ways. We've already explored the standard Lumatone layout (also known as bosanquet-wilson), as well as the harmonic table. Dave is now moving onto a perhaps lesser known layout that is becoming more a...
Lumatone Chord Shapes | 22-EDO
มุมมอง 2.6K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the most powerful features of Lumatone is that you only have to learn a chord shape once, allowing you to use the same shape, no matter what key or tuning you're playing in. For example, a minor chord is the same shape for C minor as it is for F# minor. This makes it far easier to learn Lumatone from scratch when compared with a piano or other instruments, and helps inspiration strike in...

Looks like a sci-fi spaceship control panel.
This beautiful monstrosity calls to me like an eldritch horror enticing me to do it's bidding. With whispered breath and honeyd words. "Buy me, touch me, master me, and i will bring you wonders beyond your musical comprehension." Then i just scoff and continue with my daily life. Realizing to myself: "I'm too broke for this."
A lot of microtonality sounds bad to me, but this is really nice.
Why is there no episode 14?
"...gives us these 31 notes" Simply Piano ad: *starts* Ah yes, the 31 notes of the Hungarian Dance
I don't have any music education but I have GREAT musical ears & skills + I LOVE music. WOULD I be a good candidate to learn to play the LUMATONE if I buy one?
Song name?
I wonder what this would sound like, if it was broken down to 12 EDO. Would it then sound out of tune or would it not even translate?
Back in my days we called it honky tonky
she looks cool
Amelia, this is so magical. The tuning is so subtle. Do you have this set to special altérnate microtonal notes, or is this a specific tuning that you can apply to the entire keyboard automatically? I play an original Axis 64 honeycomb keyboard, but I never tried it microtonally. I just use Thomas Young Tuning. You must see my video “How I See the Color-shapes When I Play the Piano!”
2:36 ! Gorgeous

Nice !
This is one of the nicest 31-EDO pieces I've ever heard.
👍i LoVe ! 💙⚪❤
It's worth noting that this piece sticks to the naturals (the 7 white keys) plus some of the flats (the 5 black keys below the white keys), and thus the major 3rds are not only sharp of JI but also a little sharp of 12-edo. It's basically in 3-limit JI, the medieval pythagorean tuning. Very close to 12edo, basically a brighter version of it. If Dave had ventured into the lower rows, which supply the downmajor and downminor notes, then he could have given this piece more of a 5-limit or even 7-limit feel. All of which goes to show that 41edo is extremely versatile. It can imitate pythagorean (medieval), 5-limit JI (renaissance) 12edo (20th century) and 7-limit JI (21st century, hopefully!) Basically the entire history of Western music, except for meantone (late renaissance) and well temperaments (baroque).

I need one have to ask the bank manager..THE WIFE..LOL
Even though the vast majority of the music I listen to is 12 EDO. It's really amazing how rough it sounds in comparison to other edo's (even though it has really good 5ths/4ths). I wish 53 edo fit on a guitar.
53 edo sounds gorgeous
It's amazing, I've done so much deep listening of piano for so long that I've had 12TET ingrained into my ear, to the extent that I can even tell certain notes apart from each other, when I hear them out of nowhere I might know it's an A for example. But the more I listen to this song the less out of tune it sounds. I think my mind is starting to wrap itself around these microtones
Micro tonal music should have more recognition, so many more song creation potential had been unlocked now
You can't play this unless you buy this btw
I can almost hear those stilted lo-fi hip hop drums in a few places
Seeing the pattern on those keys, 53 comes from the four sets of 12-tone "chromatic" scale (counting up to 48 tones), with five more tones to wrap everything up into this configuration. That's one beautiful keyboard with unique sounding. The transition from 12-TET to 53-TET is alike to transition from real to complex numbers, but in terms of music harmony.
It’s amazing and she’s amazing I love her 🥺
I need music similar to this... those disonances are incredible
I will never understand how anyone has the patience to learn this!
Ah yes the keyboard wizard and a great choice at that
This is a very good product but holy crap is it expensive. I'll honestly look at one at some point in time
Wow :)
IM BEGGING YOU FOR THE FULL SONGS
Let's put it simple: Lumatone is a great (though not new) idea. It's problem is price and its crazy marketing for microtonalist that are a niche. The other problem is that you cannot try it in a music shop. Distribution is a key point for such a new instrument.
I’m actually desperate for a full version of all these songs.
Is there a sheet for this?
I came at 2:54
Ok. This keyboard is expensive, and we can ilagine why. BUT why is there no app alternative to play microtonal ? Not a full keyboard like this but partial on a tablet flr example. Just to practice a little bit...
If you have music software (not telling you to pirate Fruity Loops…I’m not) and any usb keyboard (you can use the touch features on a tablet), you can set up your own microtonal sounds. Plenty of plugins have support for microtonal scales as well.
scale workshop
I experimented with music a lot on the Atari 8-bit which could not faithfully produce 12EDO. Most of the notes were kind of out of tune but I wasn't sophisticated enough to notice it at the time. But it gives a lot of the crunchy, warbely intervals in 31EDO a really familiar feeling to me.
Yes
Learning to hear microtonal music like this in a beautiful piece improves your aural sensitivity and sense of inner harmony. Very peaceful.
I don't believe I've ever heard microtonal music before. The way these notes hit parts of my audio soul in between the chromatics feels like massaging a gentle itch in a part of your ear and body that you didn't know existed before. Thank you for this introduction!
You should check out Sevish! They make awesome microtonal music :)
Hearing a Limotone played by someone so lovely is like the dimension we call Heaven Amelia, so melodic. ❤ from Petra Brown
I keep coming back because this is beautifully composed/improvised, played, and well produced. I feel wonderment.
As much as I like the 31 EDO system, and pieces like this one, there's an important factor that is lost: the symmetry. The fact that the diminished seventh chord belongs to 4 different keys helps the ear to accept dissonances more easily, and to modulate smoothly into different tonalities, not mentioning that this symetric use of the mediants has been really important for the development of modern jazz. I think that as 31 EDO might be useful sometimes in jazz for creating some new tensions, I would rather like it to found its own sound and natural development, being an independent style of music
This is one of the better ones.
JB Bach will get the giggles playing with this keyboard Amelia, His ‘Sheep Will Safely Graze’ played with various tones, Ah Ha! ❤ from Petra Brown, Ewe can imagine his face.
You look at home with the Lumatone Amelia, a most beautiful way to express your musical flair, Love from Petra Brown ❤❤
I like 22 edo
Damn! That's a lot of notes :)))
