#55 - Awesome Snowman Christmas Ornaments... How I make them

  • One of my daughters loves snowmen. After I made her a Snowman table ornament for Christmas last year she told me she wanted a dozen snowman ornaments for her tree. This episode shows how I made them. The first two are made from Cottonwood and the last 10 from a small Cherry limb. I usually leave them plain for the customer to do woth as they please, but I added a little paint to these. Stay watch and see what I did. Finished with lacquer. Thanks for watching!

      @@TheMessyStudio Billy may i ask a question please, my budget over here in europe stretches enough to get a 1 horse power lathe do you think that would be enough power to do a reasonable size bowl, spindles and platters on and the sort of things you do? Im not in to creating monster bownls or 3 foot plates etc just small to medium, i have a small pen lathe that is great for pens but they say it will do bowls but it has no power and is only 250 watts, The one i am looking at is a full horse power using 3 different pulley ranges for the torques, forward and reverse etc. many thanks. One easy way to do noses is to use a toothpick. Just drill the proper size hole for a reasonably snug fit. Then cut to length. You can paint it on the snowman or dip it first. I found that a 1/16 inch hole works pretty good. If you put the pointy end in the hole, it is usually thick enough it will wedge itself in so you don't need to glue it. Hope this helps.

    I know you've been doing this a long time and I'm certainly not questioning you...but I heard CA glue isn't that good and many glue things down with a dab of epoxy....would that also work?

    • @morgancalvi6675
      @morgancalvi6675 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only one issue with the way you're letting the lacquer drip onto wood chips...fire hazard. I know someone who burnt their shed (and all the tools with it) down by doing that. Apparently the lacquer's flammable and there wasn't really good ventilation. Either way, he lost a million dollars that night. Just recanting the sad facts.

    • @TheMessyStudio
      @TheMessyStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Morgan, epoxy would work just fine and I sometimes use it for these.
      Concerning the lacquer dripping, it doesn't because I don't put it on that heavy... at least not intentionally. I wipe the bottoms if I see runs.
