  • Mount & Blade: Warband has some of the best total-conversion mods of any game. The Last Days of the Third Age is a true homage to Tolkien and a masterfully crafted Warband mod. TLD3A is an attempt to portray the LOTR world with accuracy to the books rather than cinema. But there is plenty of action. You can battle orcs of all sizes, trolls, raiders from Rhun, and even the Legendary Mumakil.
The base game is a sandbox where you start as a lone adventurer with a bit of gold, a sword, and either a bit of wanderlust or thirst for revenge - it's all the same. In TLD3A you have to accrue "resource points" in each region you want to recruit troops from (think different currencies).
Your character levels up as you fight low level bandits and you recruit volunteers from local taverns and villages. These troops also gain experience as they fight alongside you and get better equipment and stats as you level them along their upgrade trees.
You will eventually siege castles and participate in massive battles that will determine which kingdom reigns supreme over all of Calradia (Middle Earth in this case).
You can play as many factions to start. The Uruk of Isengard under Lord Saruman. You can lead the Riders of Rohan or defend the bastion of Gondor. In this campaign we're playing as one of the Western Elves near Imladris. Elrond is our faction leader but much of the early game we spend fighting for Gondor against the advance of the (other) Witch King in Minis Morgul.

One of the best lotr games of all time. It had both good and evil campaigns fully co-op.
