      Some people complain the puresound straps always get loose, you might be better off using a regular snare strap.

    There are specifically three types of snare "buzz" based from my own research, and experience that is not really mentioned or said by drummers, as some drummers would need to know this especially you, Brendrum, of course.
    so generally saying "snare buzz" would mean two different things but sometimes it gets often mixed up or misunderstood, so here are the three snare buzz types that I've found and way to reduce/minimalize it.
    (1.) Edge Snare Buzz - it refers to a sustainy, washy, and messy sound of the snare wire sustain/response/sound when hitting the edge of your snare drum due to two factors,
    (((1))) biggest factor would be the lower tuning of the batter head, as there is more vibration of the head in contrast to a higher tuned batter head producing lesser vibration, the pitch going around the snare side with the material of the drum to produce the sustain of the drum, it generally gets longer, especially in the edges in a lower tuned batter.
    But lesser in a higher tuned batter. Triggering more of the unwanted edge snare buzz, muffling will do the most result in reducing it if you don't want those.
    (((2))) Snare side tuning, sometimes a table-top tight snare side or very tight to tight snare side tuning may contribute to a sustainy, washy, and messy edge snare buzz, with even a more severe case of zinging of the wires because the higher/tighter pitched snare side will be vibrating in a very high, and very small frequency that unwillingly and unexpectedly triggers that weird zing of the wires, weirdly interacting with the bottom head.
    Just either have a slightly lower snare side, detune all of the snare side lugs by 1 half turn or quarter turn, or 1 full turn, try.
    Or, try pitch matching the snare side of all it's lugs, reducing the inconsistancy and tendency to produce the edge snare buzz, but not removed, as that's impossible.
    (2.) Snare Wire Buzz - this is specifically referring to the snare wires itself producing the buzz when you try and carefully hear it do the work, it generally means, a uneven or not-so deep snare bed can sometimes cause this because the wires sits uneven or less close to the head which it needs to do.
    Either you have a old wire, as it tends to get stretched out over time of over use, and span. Or sometimes the placement of the wires is not centered, causing inconsistent snare response, resulting of that snare wire buzz. so center it properly.
    (3.) Sympathetic Snare Buzz - referring to the snare wire buzz sustain when you hit the tom, caused by a similarity tuned tom and snare drum, to fixing it, you need to either tune the tom lower and higher, and it's not advisable to detune the 4 lugs closest to the snare wires, as it ruins your standard snare wire sound, so that wouldn't be usable.
    Try muffling the toms, closer or farther will increase ot decrease the muffling effect of the sustain of the toms, also reducing the snare wire triggering buzz.
    Hope this helps!

    the puresound blaster works for a snare with snare beds and reduces buzz? I recently tried the puresound custom but apparently the buzz got worse, and also not making good contact with the reso head

    • @BrendrumJones

      Yeah, well as you seen in the video i was getting lots of buzz, more so then the wire i had on it before

    • @ryanwilson5936
      @ryanwilson5936 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the same issue. If you look at where the cotter pin goes through the little opening in the strap, the hem-stitching for that little opening is just thick enough to lift the plate just high enough for them to lose contact with the reso head when placed under tension. I’m about to replace the strap altogether with some grosgrain ribbon and see if it helps. I currently have the puresound strap doubled over like a regular strap. It helped a bunch but at that point I could have saved $10 and just bought the wires without the strap. Which do sound great when they make enough contact.

    • @maxxpayne7964
      @maxxpayne7964 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I already gave up on my puresound custom, I couldn't find a solution to the excessive rattle and buzz, so I took it out of my snare and put the original snare wire tama and that problem disappeared, then I put a generic gibraltar snare wire and the rattle and buzz was reduced even more. And I think that's why, the puresound clip is too thick and long and doesn't make good contact with the reso head, at least that's what happens with the puresound custom, I don't know if the same will happen with other models

    Using a set of wires designed for 13" snare, on a 14" snare, helps to reduce snare buzz since the wires are shorter and leave more free space on the edges.

    I've got these fast release straps just yesterday with the Evans tune up kit I bought, i had no idea what they where supposed to be so i searched on internet for reviews, like you said they are pretty disappointing. So i fought that instead of using them id use some butcher's twine as a snare cord, since i don't want to buy new drum straps as im a bit tight on money rn. Do you think i should still settle with the speed release ones until i buy proper straps or should i keep the butcher twine?

      Forget the Puresound wires. They don’t sit close enough to the head to get a sensitive response with a looser tension in the wires. I prefer Tama wires. The Snappy High Carbon wires and the Starclassic High Carbons are great. The straps Tama provides are perfect as they are flexible and easy to set up.

    Honestly, I could never understand the struggle with the tide.. It's just part of nature of it all, because well, if you want a sensitive and lively snare drum that reacts not only to blows from behind the back but also is capable of picking up ghost notes and all things quiet - you need those wires to be reactive! It just works like this - a membrane vibrates and activates the wires! either it's your sticks or an air wave (aka sound) from anything making a sound. If the air wave can't make wires activate, so can't your gentle touch of a stick..

    • @BrendrumJones
      @BrendrumJones  ปีที่แล้ว

    You can never get completely rid of snare buzz. It's an acoustic instrument - it catches vibrations and moves. It sure is uncalled for in many situations, but I see far too many people choke the shit out of their snare drums to minimalise the buzz, which in turn makes their drums sound like shit. Just learn to live with it and disengage the strainer on a quiet part during live setting. Your snare in that short clip seems out of tune too, or at least both heads are tuned in a relation to each other where it boosts buzzing.

    • @BrendrumJones
      @BrendrumJones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed, but when you have other wires that buzz less then a wire that claims to be a buzzless wire, then in a review on said wire that needs to be a big talking point. Doesn't do what it says on the tin Pawel, have you used them?

      @@BrendrumJones I’ve had the same problem. I replaced the wires on a Tama Starclassic snare with Puresounds and the plates didn’t sit close enough to the head unless the tension was cranked. I thought the snare beds might have been bad. Put the stock Tama wires back and the problem went away. I stick to Tama wires now. Snappy High Carbons are my favorite along with the Starclassic High Carbon wires. Canopus are suppose to be really good although they’re quite expensive.

      @@maxxpayne7964 Save yourself some headaches and buy a few sets of Tama MS20RL14C wires. If you have a really bright sounding snare try the Starclassic Bell Brass wires. It happened with the Customs first then the Blasters would do the same thing on MOST OF my Tama snares. The only Tama snare I've never had an issue with Puresounds is my 1988 Artwood Birch. I know modern Tama snare beds are shallow and wide. Tama snare wires have a thinner end plate so I'm fairly certain that where the issue lies. My metal shelled Tama drums aren't as bad with the Puresounds but I still prefer Tama wires.

      @@Assimilator702 I have a tama rockstar custom snare, initially it didn't have any snare beds, and with the puresound custom it gave excessive buzz and rattled, except when I over-squeezed the snare wire. So I made snare beds myself, and I made them not too deep and not too narrow, but it kept the same buzz and rattle with the puresound custom, plus it wasn't 100% attached to the reso head . So I put the original tama snare wire on it and it stuck to the reso head much better. And I think that's why, because the part where the wires are attached are thinner, and it is shaped like an angle downwards (and in the custom puresound that part is thick and straight). And so, with the puresound blaster, would it be the same as with the puresound custom?
