  • Jessica Foster is a unique South African who speaks English as a first language and Sotho fluently. She is a diverse person who openly feels more comfortable with Black people than she does with her own race. She grew up with a family devoted to Christianity in a mission in the middle of one of Pretoria's biggest townships, Mamelodi!! Here she tells me about her childhood and here view on modern day South Africa and where it is heading. My brother Katlego talks to her in Sotho which he speaks fluently and she speaks to him fluently.

There are many white people in SA that speaks indigenous languages. Both sets of my grandparents spoke several. Many of my uncles and ants did too, It all depends where you grew up and if you are exposed and inclined to learn languages. But I agree that it is not common and the younger you are when you start the easier it is. That said, if all your friends speaks another language you will very quickly pick it up .

This is nice to hear unfortunately there are the vast majority (especially amongs the Boer) who seem to feel they are superior to the Indegenious Africans and their mindsets need to change.
The issue in my view is the Boers and most whites fail to see themselves as "Africans" hence that true connection the continent is not there.
I speak from experience because I am a Zulu born and raised in the UK , I moved to Sweden some 10 years ago and until I fully embraced the language and history and culture of the Swedish people, I was never really integrated into the society.
