Great video guys... lots of fun/mate-ship shared. Great to see the ladies get in the water, share the moment and have a go :). Music was cool too, and the scenery blows the mind. Cheers from Trev. Qld Aust
Endive and halibut 45 years in California it looks like you have the best halibut diving in the world bring a large ice chest full of scalding water last all day keep you warm
2:43 are you really hunting Halibut with nothing attached to the gun? No floatline and no reel? I would think that is super risky and you might lose the gun? If I ever get to go Halibut hunting, something I really wanna do I think I go with Breakaway Rigg or maybe a doublewrap. Yes I am Norwegian =)
What size of guns were you using? I have hoping to see a halibut in Alaska but I only have a 100cm gun with 14mm bands, I'm not sure if that would be enough to shoot through a halibut.
Thanks for the video, looks quite humane when done right. I have seen videos where they almost seem to do bad shots just to get more action.I have dreamt of spearfishing for ages but never got around to it and getting to the age that i dont know if i ever will. Oh and also that i see that the meat is taken care of. Imo better then the "tweed suit" fishers who catch and release, tormenting the fish for ages for their pleasure then release. The video that follwed yours on autoplay made me sad. I was juvenile after juvenile...
Thanks for a great video. Sharing details like the hardships of halibut spear fishing really puts it into perspective. A lot of work in a cold and somewhat hostile environment mixed with some luck to get an opportunity to shoot one. I can see how dangerous it probably gets if you over extend the tide and the current sweeps you out of sight of the boat. A long swim to shore or worse on the outgoing tide.
Video is nice! But you guys catch only halibut ( kveite po norsk) . Do you see another fish? You must come to Hitra! Here you can catch : cod , lyre, saida, angler and athers! Regards Dainius Team Fishing
I do not understand, you shoot the fish and run away from it. Are you afraid of the fish? The correct technique is to shoot him and go to him to make sure he is well held in the harpoon and to hug him. I imagine the amount of halibut that gets lost in this habit of shooting and running.
Be me guest to try to hold and hug a big halibut that isnt stoned. Would be one of the most stupid thing to do. Worst case you end up with a spear in you. The amounts of power this big fish have is insane. A lot of momentum when they start to move. You could not hold on to it and hug it. You have a big risk of losing it by tearing out the spear i the wrestle. Even a stoned halibut with spear in it is dangerous due to its nerv movment. Tail the big ones all day. Not many halibuts at all get loose after they run if you have your gear in order.
Sooooooo good!
Cheers! you gonna give it a second try this season or what?;)

Its connected with a floatline and bouy. If you watch really close you can see the floatline connection. His arm is hiding it.
@@arcticspearfishing4265 Okey I think I see a thin line. sneaky XD. I was thinking he was ballsy as F going with a loose gun

Thanks for the comment bud! Good surface marker buoys and an active boat captain helps a lot when diving in areas with strong currents.
Watching this it felt so personal I felt like I was intruding
Ser ut som dere ikke trenger å gå sånn megadypt. Hvor dypt var dere sånn ca?
in my country(indonesia).the halibut weigh no more than 1kg

Hitra would be aweomse! We do get cod, saithe and other flatfishes here No pollack though..
ALWAYS have more than one shaft, they bend, they break, YOU LOSE THEM, ect.
100 %! always keep extra shafts now..
how is the tide there?
Around 3 meter.
