My husband is from Savannah and I have been trying for years to make Red Rice for him. Either it’s undercooked or overcooked. I found your recipe yesterday and made it today. My husband is so happy and I’m so surprised at how perfect it is. Thank you Thank you and bless you.
My Grandmother would make this all the time! Stovetop and with only water maid rice. She would not use any other rice! Lord knows I miss her so much! Thank you for sharing your video❤️
I'm from the low country and my best friend taught me how to make red rice over the phone maybe two years ago. It came out delicious; so much so that my brother asked me to make some for his work potluck. One bite and his coworkers couldn't believe "his brother" made it. He explained that it's a dish he grew up on. They ate it all. Now, every time they have a potluck; he asks me to make it. No problem. The dish is good.
My parents use to make this every. Thanksgiving. My mother would add corn. She prepared hers on the stove top. I never can get it right, always came out soupy. But I tried your recipe on Thanksgiving this year 2023, AMAZING! THANK YOU! The oven aspect is generous, love, love, love it.
I tried your recipe tonight and it came out great! I never use to cook my rice in the oven. This was my second time just this year. I wish I could share a pic with you! Thanks again for sharing your recipe!
Being from Charleston I remember my Granny & Mom making this and Macaroni Pie to go with fried chicken! Ain’t nothing better! Gonna use your recipe as I like sausage in only cut in halves or quarters better than whole rounds. Now gotta locate a good macaroni pie recipe.

He didn’t say it was Jollof he said it simply reminded him of it. Red Rice and Hoppin John. Is very similar to. Jollof and Waake. There is no denying that. It came from West African influence. Even down to someone’s Gullah grandmother making it. Even look West African

YouYou know I honestly don’t know. I’ve never tried it or seen anyone else use it.
Your red rice looks good! The only thing I add differently to this recipe is bacon.
YUP ! Saved some from breakfast just for this ! LOL !
When do you add the bacon?
@karencoward569 I cook the bacon first, then add it in with the smoked sausage, green bell peppers, and onions in the aluminum pan mixed all together.
Thank you so much. I’m going to try to make this today.
I can here the Charleston in your voice. I’m here to steal another one of your recipes 😂
I remember growing out eating this. But we had kidney beans in it to...
I am not a fan of parboiled rice or long grain rice. Can I use jasmine rice?
Absolutely
325 or 350 degrees?
Why not add the rice to the mixture ,cook for a minute or so THEN put it in the pan??

Hey! I have a long time friend on Johns Island.
@@cookinchillinwithkenny really small world. Most people never heard of Johns island
This is good with cut up fried hot dogs too
Yep sure is.
This recipe came out perfectly. I made it twice Now i dont have to go to the Piggy Wiggly deli for red rice 😂
Gullah jollof rice
Kenny would it taste good with kidney beans or canelli beans in it?
Nah lol
🪶
DO YOU WASH YOUR RICE FIRST?
You can but I never do when using parboiled rice. I do wash it if I’m making plain white rice because I use a different rice for that.
Can y'all please OWN your rice, That's a low country south Carolina dish NOT jollof
